  • The intelligent agriculture monitoring is based on the perception and analysis of environmental data, which enables the monitoring of the production environment and the control of environmental regulation equipment. As the scale of the application continues to expand, a large amount of data will be generated from the perception layer and uploaded to the cloud service, which will bring challenges of insufficient bandwidth and processing capacity. A fog-based offline and real-time hybrid data analysis architecture was proposed in this paper, which combines offline and real-time analysis to enable real-time data processing on resource-constrained IoT devices. Furthermore, we propose a data process-ing algorithm based on the incremental principal component analysis, which can achieve data dimensionality reduction and update of principal components. We also introduce the concept of Squared Prediction Error (SPE) value and realize the abnormal detection of data through the combination of SPE value and data fusion algorithm. To ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the algorithm, we design a regular-SPE hybrid model update strategy, which enables the principal component to be updated on demand when data anomalies are found. In addition, this strategy can significantly reduce resource consumption growth due to the data analysis architectures. Practical datasets-based simulations have confirmed that the proposed algorithm can perform data fusion and exception processing in real-time on resource-constrained devices; Our model update strategy can reduce the overall system resource consumption while ensuring the accuracy of the algorithm.

  • Space launch vehicles and reentry vehicles are exposed to extreme heating conditions due to high aerodynamic heating while flying at high Mach numbers in the atmosphere. To protect the vehicle itself or the payload from the aerodynamic heating, the thermal load imposed on the surface should be exactly predicted and proper thermal protection should be applied based on the prediction results. But this requires rigorous thermal analysis and testing to prevent loss of payload capacity caused by excessive heat shielding, and the amount of thermal protection material to be applied is determined through aerodynamic heating tests. Various design points to be considered to upgrade the prototype aerodynamic thermal simulation facility(ATSF) used for the KSR-series sounding rocket development to the one suitable for the KSLV(Korean Space Launch Vehicle)-series launch vehicle are considered in this research. The need and limitation for the facility are first considered, and the functions required for KSLV testing are determined. The specifications of the upgraded facility are briefly suggested and these results will be used for the future fabrication and installation of the facility.

  • Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a serious chronic condition with a global impact. Symptoms of COPD include progressive dyspnea, breathlessness, cough, and sputum production, which have a considerable impact on the lives of patients. In addition to the human cost of living with COPD and the resulting death, COPD entails a huge economic burden on the Chinese population, with patients spending up to one-third of the average family income on COPD management in some regions is clinically beneficial to adopt preventable measures via prudent COPD care utilization, monetary costs, and hospitalizations. Methods: Toward this end, this study compared the relative effectiveness of six indices in predicting patient healthcare utilization, cost of care, and patient health outcome. The six assessment systems evaluated included the three multidimensional Body mass index, Obstruction, Dyspnea, Exercise capacity index, Dyspnea, Obstruction, Smoking, Exacerbation (DOSE) index, and COPD Assessment Test index, or the unidimensional measures that best predict the future of patient healthcare utilization, cost of care, and patient health outcome among Chinese COPD patients. Results: Multiple linear regression models were created for each healthcare utilization, cost, and outcome including a single COPD index and the same group of demographic variables for each of the outcomes. Conclusion: We conclude that the DOSE index facilitates the prediction of patient healthcare utilization, disease expenditure, and negative clinical outcomes. Our study indicates that the DOSE index has a potential role beyond clinical predictions.

  • Wild strain L-6 was subjected to combined mutagenesis, including UV irradiation, atmospheric and room temperature plasma, and ion beam implantation, to increase the yield of 1,3-dihydroxyacetone (DHA). With application of a high-throughput screening method, mutant Gluconobacter oxydans I-2-239 with a DHA productivity of 103.5 g/l in flask-shake fermentation was finally obtained with the starting glycerol concentration of 120 g/l, which was 115.7% higher than the wild strain. The cultivation time also decreased from 54 h to 36 h. Compared with the wild strain, a dramatic increase in enzyme activity was observed for the mutant strain, although the increase in biomass was limited. DNA and amino acid sequence alignment revealed 11 nucleotide substitutions and 10 amino acid substitutions between the sldAB of strains L-6 and I-2-239. Simulation of the 3-D structure and prediction of active site residues and PQQ binding site residues suggested that these mutations were mainly related to PQQ binding, which was speculated to be favorable for the catalyzing capacity of glycerol dehydrogenase. RT-qPCR assay indicated that the transcription levels of sldA and sldB in the mutant strain were respectively 4.8-fold and 5.4-fold higher than that in the wild strain, suggesting another possible reason for the increased DHA productivity of the mutant strain.

  • The risk-based assessment, also called time-based assessment of structure is usually performed to provide seismic risk evaluation of a target structure for its entire life-cycle, e.g. 50 years. The prediction of collapse probability is the estimator in the risk-based assessment. While the risk-based assessment is the key in the performance-based earthquake engineering, its application is very limited because this evaluation method is very expensive in terms of simulation and computational efforts. So the evaluation database for many archetype structures usually serve as representative of the specific system. However, there is no such an assessment performed for building stocks in Korea. Consequently, the performance objective of current building code, KBC is not clear at least in a quantitative way. This shortcoming gives an unresolved issue to insurance industry, socio-economic impact, seismic safety policy in national and local governments. In this study, we evaluate the comprehensive seismic performance of an low-rise residential buildings with discontinuous structural walls, so called piloti-type structure which is commonly found in low-rise domestic building stocks. The collapse probability is obtained using the risk integral of a conditioned collapse capacity function and regression of current hazard curve. Based on this approach it is expected to provide a robust tool to seismic safety policy as well as seismic risk analysis such as Probable Maximum Loss (PML) commonly used in the insurance industry.

  • A bearing failure in RCS(Reinforced Concrete Column and Steel Beam) system is recognized as one of the distinct joint failure modes for the composite frames. Vertical and transverse reinforcement in addition to concrete are effective for better transfer of vortical forces through concrete bearing. To examine the effect of the vertical bars, tie bars, a U-type detail developed in this study and concrete confinement, local bearing tests were conducted using 22 small-scale concrete block specimens. Test results show that vertical reinforcement and tie bars mainly contribute to the bearing capacity. However larger amounts of tie reinforcement are required than those recommend from ASCE guidelines, to apply the nominal concrete strength as 2 $f_{ck}$ over the bearing area. Cross ties are proved to be highly effective for resisting the vertical forces. Maximum bearing strength can be increased upto 2.5 $f_{ck}$ . An accurate prediction model for bearing strength is proposed for better design of the composite Joint.

  • Recently, accelerated chloride diffusion coefficients are used for an evaluation of chloride behavior. Similar as apparent diffusion coefficients, accelerated diffusion coefficients decrease with time. In this study, decrease in diffusion coefficient with time is simulated with porosity. Utilizing DUCOM-program, porosities from 15 mix proportions are obtained and diffusion coefficients are modelled with regression analysis of porosity for 270 days. Considering non-linear binding capacity which means the relation between free and bound chloride ion, chloride behavior in high performance concrete is evaluated. Through utilizing the previous test results for concrete under chlorides for 180 days, the applicability of the proposed technique is verified. The proposed technique is evaluated to reasonably predict the chloride behavior in concrete with various w/c (water to cement) ratios and mineral admixtures (GGBFS and FA). It is also shown that decrease in chloride diffusion should be considered for chloride prediction in concrete with mineral admixture since it has very clear decrease in diffusivity with time.

  • The prediction of the actual ultimate capacity of confined concrete columns requires partial confinement utilization under eccentric loading. This is attributed to the reduction in compression zone compared to columns under pure axial compression. Modern codes and standards are introducing the need to perform extreme event analysis under static loads. There has been a number of studies that focused on the analysis and testing of concentric columns. On the other hand, the augmentation of compressive strength due to partial confinement has not been treated before. The higher eccentricity causes smaller confined concrete region in compression yielding smaller increase in strength of concrete. Accordingly, the ultimate eccentric confined strength is gradually reduced from the fully confined value $f_{cc}$ (at zero eccentricity) to the unconfined value $f^{\prime}_c$ (at infinite eccentricity) as a function of the ratio of compression area to total area of each eccentricity. This approach is used to implement an adaptive Mander model for analyzing eccentrically loaded columns. Generalization of the 3D moment of area approach is implemented based on proportional loading, fiber model and the secant stiffness approach, in an incremental-iterative numerical procedure to achieve the equilibrium path of $P-{\varepsilon}$ and $M-{\varphi}$ response up to failure. This numerical analysis is adapted to assess the confining effect in rectangular columns confined with conventional lateral steel. This analysis is validated against experimental data found in the literature showing good correlation to the partial confinement model while rendering the full confinement treatment unsafe.

  • As the size of the airport terminal grows in line with the rapid growth of aviation passengers, the advanced baggage handling system that combines various data technologies has become an essential element in order to handle the baggage carried by passengers swiftly and accurately. Therefore, this study introduces the method of analyzing the baggage handling capacity of domestic airports through the latest data analysis methodology from the process point of view to advance the operation of the airport BHS and the main points based on event log data. By presenting an accurate load prediction method, it can lead to advanced BHS operation strategies in the future, such as the preemptive arrangement of resources and optimization of flight-carrousel scheduling. The data used in the analysis utilized the APIs that can be obtained by searching for "Korea Airports Corporation" in the public data portal. As a result of applying the method to the domestic airport BHS simulation model, it was possible to confirm a high level of predictive performance.

  • The significant structure theory of liquids and the Bragg-Williams approximation of phase transition theory have been applied to the calculation of the thermodynamic properties of p-azoxyanisole which exhibits a liquid crystal phase of the nematic type. The isotropic phase was treated as a normal liquid; and for the nematic phase, in addition to its liquidity, the effect due to the arrangement of molecular-dipoles was considered. The liquidity of the p-azoxyanisole was described by the significant structure theory of liquids, and the Bragg-Williams approximation was used to consider the effect due to the arrangement of molecular-dipoles. The molar volume, vapor pressure, heat capacity at constant pressure, thermal expansion coefficient, compressibility, entropy and enthalpy change at the nematic-isotropic phase transition point, absolute entropy, and absolute Helmholtz free energy were calculated over the temperature range of the nematic and isotropic phases. The calculated results of the thermodynamic properties were compared with the experimental data.
