지역사회 획득 폐렴환자의 중증도 평가에서 혈청 코티졸의 유용성 (Usefulness of Serum Cortisol in Assessment for the Severity of Community-Acquired Pneumonia)

  • Background: High cortisol levels are frequently observed in patients with severe infections are of prognostic value in sepsis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical usefulness of serum cortisol in assessment for the severity of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Methods: This study analyzed the results of 52 CAP subjects admitted in Changwon Fatima Hospital between July 2008 to May 2010. Total serum cortisol, infection markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT) and CURB (Confusion, Uremia, Respiratory rate, Blood pressure)-65 were examined retrospectively. Results: In clinically unstable subjects on admission day 4, baseline serum cortisol, CURB-65, and CRP were elevated significantly compared to those of stable subjects. Area under curve (AUC) of cortisol, CRP, and CURB-65 from ROC curves were 0.847, 0.783, and 0.724 respectively. In the subjects with serum cortisol ${\geq}22.82{\mu}g/dL$, CRP, PCT, CURB-65 score, and mortality were significantly elevated. Conclusion: These findings suggest that measurement of serum cortisol in early stage may provide helpful information in the assessment of CAP severity.

홍화 수집자원의 작물학적 특성 및 교배 방법 (Agronomic Characteristics and Artificial-cross Method of Collected Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) Germplasm)

  • Background: Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is a useful medicinal and oil crop in Korea. However, when safflower is cultivated, the flowering period overlaps with the rainy season, and seed maturation is poor. Therefore, this study aimed to use basic research data to develop superior varieties using agronomic characteristics and crossing method. Methods and Results: A total of 34 safflower germplasms were sown and their agronomic characteristics were investigated. Based on these investigations, the cultivar 'ui-san-hong-hwa' was selected as the mother plant, and 'Myanmar safflower' (Hsu Pan) was selected as the father plant. In addition, we developed a floret-protecting cap to cover florets after emasculation during the artificial crossing. When florets were protected by the cap, the seed setting rate increased in comparison to that in the non-covered florets. Conclusions: Agronomic characteristics can contribute to developing suitable varieties. The results suggest that the protection cap will be helpful in breeding without the floral organ drying. This study contributes an efficient breeding method to develop new safflower varieties.

Landsat-7 ETM+영상을 이용한 안성지역의 불투수도 추정 (Impervious Surface Estimation Using Landsat-7 ETM+Image in An-sung Area)

  • 불투수도는 도시화, 환경변화를 추정하기 위한 중요한 지수로서 도시 기후 변화, 홍수기철 도시 범람의 증가, 홍수 모델링에 영향 등 도시의 홍수 기상학과 수문학적인 변화와 매우 밀접한 관계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 안성지역 일대를 대상으로 하여 Landsat ETM+ 영상을 이용한 불투수도 작성을 시도하였다. 학습 및 검수자료는 고해상도 영상인 IKONOS 영상을 이용하였으며, Landsat ETM+ 영상에 대한 위성반사율을 이용하여 tasseled cap과 NDVI로 전환하고 다양한 변수들이 불투수도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 그리고 Regression Tree 알고리즘에 따라 불투수도 추정식을 개발하여 지도화하였다.

기계 환기가 요구된 중증 지역사회 획득 폐렴에서 저용량 하이드로코르티손 주입의 효과 (Efficacy of Low-dose Hydrocortisone Infusion for Patients with Severe Community-acquired Pneumonia Who Invasive Mechanical Ventilation)

  • 배경: 중증 지역사회 획득 폐렴은 항생제의 발달과 보조요법의 발전에도 불구하고 사망률이 높은 질환으로 호흡부전으로 진행되어 기계환기가 필요한 경우 사망률은 더욱 증가하게 된다. 최근 중증 지역사회 획득 폐렴에서 저용량 하이드로코르티손 주입이 사망률을 감소시킨다고 보고되었다. 본 연구는 기계환기가 요구된 중증 지역사회 획득 폐렴 환자에서 하이드로코르티손 정주의 효과를 알아보기 위하여 시행하였다. 방법: 2005년 2월부터 7월까지 중증 지역사회 획득 폐렴으로 기계환기를 유지한 13명의 환자(남:여=10:3, 평균 연령: $68.6{\pm}14.1$)를 대상으로 하이드로코르티손을 240mg을 부하로 정주하고 시간당 10mg을 지속적으로 7일간 주입하였다. 대조군은 연구 기간 이전 중증 지역사회 획득 폐렴으로 기계환기를 유지하고 스테로이드 치료를 하지 않았던 13명의 환자를 대상으로 하였다. 하이드로코르티손 주입 전과 주입 8일째 두 군 간의 임상적, 생리적 지표의 차이와 최종 결과를 비교하였다. 결과: 1) 하이드로코르티손 주입 전 주입군과 대조군의 나이, 성별, 내원 당시의 SAPS II, SOFA 점수, 체온, 백혈구 수, PaO2/FiO2(P/F) 비, P/F 200이하인 환자수, 흉부방사선 사진 점수, 폐손상 점수, 카테콜라민 의존성 패혈성 쇽의 빈도 등은 유의한 차이가 없었다. 2) 하이드로코르티손 주입 8일 후 대조군에 비해 주입군이 P/F비가 100이상 호전된 환자의 비율과 흉부 방사선 점수가 호전된 환자의 비율이 유의하게 높았다(61.5% vs. 15.4% p=0.016, 76.9% vs. 23.1% p<0.05). 이외 다른 임상적 및 생리적 지표들은 주입군과 대조군 사이에 유의한 차이는 없었다. 3) 두 군 간에 기계환기 유지기간, 중환자실 재원기간, 병원내 재원기간, 재원 10일째와 30일째의 사망률은 유의한 차이가 없었다. 결론: 기계환기가 요구되는 중증 지역사회 획득 폐렴에서 하이드로코르티손 정주는 산소화와 흉부 방사선 점수의 빠른 호전을 보이지만 최종 치료 성적에 대해서는 많은 환자를 대상으로 한 전향적 무작위 대조 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

  • VLC (Visible Light Communication) is a wireless communication method using light that is visible to the human eye. It has a major advantage that it causes no interference to RF-based devices. This makes wireless communication possible in RF hazardous areas such as nuclear facilities. In order to apply VLC communication in harsh environment of nuclear power plant, the high luminance LEDs, which are key components of the VLC communication, have been gamma-ray irradiated at the dose rate of 4kGy/h during 72 hours up to a total dose of 288 kGy. The radiation induced color-center was formed in the LED housing cap made of transparent plastic or acryl material. The beam degradations of high luminance LEDs by high dose-rate gammaray irradiation are analyzed using color CCD image processing technology.

마찰용접을 이용한 고강도 쇼크업소버 베이스 어셈블리의 제조 기술 개발 (Development of a High Strength Manufacturing Technology for the Shock Absorber Base Assembly Using Friction Welding)

  • The shock absorber base assembly is one of the parts in the shock absorber equipment that controls the vehicle movement. It absorbs the shock and vibration to guarantee riding stability and comfort. It demands strength, reliability and strict airtightness of the welded section because the shock absorber base assembly is a container which resists pressure and needs durability by being filled with gas and oil. However, the current engineering needs a lot of production time, has a high cost and shows a low production rate. These problem due to the eight production processes, four of which are spot welding, reinforcement welding like metal active welding (MAG), prior process of the base assembly cap and tube for precision and pressing. We will analyze the manufacturing processes of the base assembly and suggest an improved manufacturing method that uses frictional welding. The results will show that the new method of the frictional welding is better than the previous welding technique. Through the use of this concept of frictional welding, the welding conjunction will be strengthened, measurements will be more precise, and the cost and the number of processes will be reduced.

Xenopus 초기배의 이낭과 동물극분리배양에서 유도된 이낭간의 형태비교 (Ultrastructural Study of Induced Otic Vesicle from Isolated Xenopus Presumptive Ectoderm)

  • The ultrastrucures of Xenopus otic vesicle from normal embryo (st. 43) and induced otic vesicle from animal cap assay with Activin A were compared. Activin A was applied to the presumptive ectoderm at various concentrations for three days at $20^{\circ}C$. The results were almost identical to the reference studies, but it was found that the otic vesicle was induced at the concentration of 10 ng/ml in to)v rate. This otic vesicle may be secondarily induced by the neural tissue showed commonly at the concentration of 10 ng/ml. Otoliths were observed as three or four-axis crystaline bodies in the lumen of otic vesicle. In electron micrograph of the normal embryo, two kinds of microvilli were observed on the apical position of hair cells. One was small and common, the other was large-sized and sparsely distributed. In both cell of otic vesicle, mitochondria, golgi apparatus and multivesicular body were rich, so, they showed a lot of similarities in ultrastructure. However, the otolith was not found and microvilli were overexpressed in the otic vesicle induced by Activin A.

  • Bluetooth 환경에서 SAR(Segment And Re-assembly) 알고리즘을 사용하여 WAP 성능을 향상시키기 위한 WAP 패킷의 전송 시간을 분석하였다. 이러한 WAP의 전송 능력을 향상시키기 위한 한 방법으로 SAR의 과정은 WTP (Wireless Transaction Protocol) 상위계층에서 내려온 전체 메시지를 분할한 다음, 베이스밴드에서 패킷을 전송하게 된다. 그리고 Bluetooth 피코넷 환경에서 SAR 알고리즘을 사용하여 Bluetooth 패킷 타입 중 DM(Data-Medium rate) 1, DM3, DM5 에 따른 Bluetooth 환경에서 WAP의 패킷 전송 시간을 분석하였다. 이 SAR 알고리즘은 멀티 슬롯으로 전송할 경우 L2CAP (Logical Link Control And Adaptation Protocol) 베이스밴드 패킷 전송 시간을 감소시킨다.

Growth and Characterization of Vertically well Aligned Crbon Nanotubes on Glass Substrate by Plasma Enhanced Hot Filament Chemical Vapor deposition

  • Vertically well aligned multi-wall carbon nanotubes (CNT) were grown on nickel coated glass substrates by plasma enhanced hot filament chemical vapor deposition at low temperatures below 600$^{\circ}C$. Acetylene and ammonia gas were used as the carbon source and a catalyst. Effects of growth parameters such as pre-treatment of substrate, plasma intensity, filament current, imput gas flow rate, gas composition, substrate temperature and different substrates on the growth characteristics of CNT were systematically investigated. Figure 1 shows SEM image of CNT grown on Ni coated glass substrate. Diameter of nanotube was 30 to 100nm depending on the growth condition. The diameter of CNT decreased and density of CNT increased as NH3 etching time etching time increased. Plasma intensity was found to be the most critical parameter to determine the growth of CNT. CNT was not grown at the plasma intensity lower than 500V. Growth of CNT without filament current was observed. Raman spectroscopy showed the C-C tangential stretching mode at 1592 cm1 as well as D line at 1366 cm-1. From the microanalysis using HRTEM, nickel cap was observed on the top of the grown CNT and very thin carbon amorphous layer of 5nm was found on the nickel cap. Current-voltage characteristics using STM showed about 34nA of current at the applied voltage of 1 volt. Electron emission from the vertically well aligned CNT was obtained using phosphor anode with onset electric field of 1.5C/um.
