The problem of selecting the optimal target values in a canning process is considered for situations where there is a linear shift in the mean of the content of a can which is assumed to be normally distributed with known variance. The target values are initial process mean, length of resetting cycle and controllable upper limit. Profit models are constructed which involve give-away, rework, and resetting costs. Methods of finding the optimal target values are presented and a nemerical example is given.
Consider a canning process where cans are filled with an expensive ingredient. Cans weighting above the specified limit are sold in a regular market for a fixed price, and underfilled cans are emptied and refilled at the expense of a reprocessing cost. In this paper, the effect of measurement error on the determination of the optimal process mean for a canning process is examined. It is assumed that the quantity X of ingredient in a can is normally distributed with unknown mean and known variance, and the observed value Y of X is also normally distributed with known mean and variance. A profit model is constructed which involves selling price. cost of ingredients, reprocessing cost. and cost from an accepted nonconforming can, and methods of finding the optimal process mean and the cutoff value on Y are presented. It is shown that the optimal process mean increases. and the expected profit decreases when the measurement error is relatively large in comparison to the process variance.

The porous metal material is used for injection metal mold with a great deal of gas production because it makes plenty of gas exhausted through pores formed in the metal mold. A canning HIP method was conventionally used for manufacturing of porous metals, but because of difficulty of process control and high cost of production its application was limited. In this experiment, porous metal mold material was produced by an enhanced vacuum sintering method with simply controlled and economical process and porosities/mechanical properties with variation of sintering temperature and duration time during vacuum sintering were studied. As a result, quality goods were obtained at optimized conditions as follows: sintering temperature of $1230^{\circ}C$, duration time of 2 hr and showed superior properties in wear loss and thermal conductivity and the same properties in hardness, TRS (Transverse Rupture Strength), and thermal expansion coefficient in comparison with those under canning HIP.

Machines are physically or chemically degenerated by continuous usage. One of the results of this degeneration is the process mean shift. Under the process mean shift, production cost, failure cost and quality loss function cost are increasing continuously. Therefore a periodic preventive resetting the process is necessary. We suppose that the wear level is observable. In this case, process mean shift problem has similar characteristics to the maintenance policy model. In the previous studies, process mean shift problem has been studied in several fields such as 'Tool wear limit', 'Canning Process' and 'Quality Loss Function' separately or partially integrated form. This paper proposes an integrated cost model which involves production cost by the material, failure cost by the nonconforming items, quality loss function cost by the deviation between the quality characteristics from the target value and resetting the process cost. We expand this process mean shift problem a little more by dealing the process variance as a function, not a constant value. We suggested a multiplier function model to the process variance according to the analysis result with practical data. We adopted two-side specification to our model. The initial process mean is generally set somewhat above the lower specification. The objective function is total integrated costs per unit wear and independent variables are wear limit and initial setting process mean. The optimum is derived from numerical analysis because the integral form of the objective function is not possible. A numerical example is presented.
This paper describes $R_p,\;R_d,\;R_c,\;R_{cp},\;R_{cd}$ for design and manufacture of die by comparing the results. Results of this study could be reduced from three processes to two processes and drawing can be conducted using one die set by modifying structure of the punch head and die plate. Oil canning phenomenon can be prevented when circle blanking or ellipse blanking in blanking drawing. $R_c$, the important factor of drawing process was able to evaluate properly in designing of product.
Studies on detoxification of Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP)-infested oyster, Crassostrea gigas were carried out using available processing resources. Changes of paralytic shellfish toxin components and specific toxicity during canning process were also investigated with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Toxic oysters collected at Hachong in Koje Bay were used for experimental samples. The toxicity of oysters with range of 185-778 ug/100g was reduced below the quarantine limit of 80 ug/100g or not detected level by the mouse bioassay after canning process. The mole $\%$ of toxin components in the shucked oyster was in the order of 25.1 mole $\%$ of gonyautoxin 1, 19.2 mole $\%$ of gonyautoxin 3, 17.2 mole $\%$ of gonyautoxin 4 and 14.6 mole $\%$ of gonyautoxin 2. This sample had tracing amounts of Cl, C2, saxitoxin and neosaxitoxin. In the case of specific toxicity, the major toxins were consisted of gonyautoxin 1-4. The sum of gonyautoxin 1, 2, 3 and 4 was 80% of total toxicity of oyster. Saxitoxin and decarbamoylsaxitoxin were the more thermostable than any other toxin components.

The catalytic converter in the front part of an automobile's exhaust system converts toxic exhaust gas into nontoxic gas. The substrate in the central part of the converter has a circular or oval-shaped cross section and fine lattice-shaped walls. In the canning process, the substrate is wrapped in mats and inserted into a can. During this process, mat pressure is induced, which may cause brittle fracturing in the substrate. In this paper, a finite element program for determining the mat pressure distribution was developed to avoid these fractures. The program was created in Microsoft EXCEL, so the input and output procedures are relatively simple. It was assumed that the substrate is rigid, the mat is material nonlinear, and the can is linear elastic. The can is modeled as a beam element to resist both bending and uniform tension/compression. The number of elements is fixed to 35, and the number of iterations, to 20. The solutions are compared to ABAQUS solutions and found to be in good agreement.
P/M high speed steels with various Co contents were fabricated by gas atomization and Canning/HIP process. As Co content in P/M high speed steel increased, hardness, transverse rupture strength and yield strength in compressive testing increased due to solid solution hardening of Co in matrix. Especially, PM high speed steels with Co have high deformation resistance to repeated compressive loading.
This paper presents the minimization of the energy costs based on energy saving for industrial retort process of canned food. The approved proposed method is related the optimal steam or hot water flow control to achieve desired temperature of retort process. The smooth response and zero steady state error can be also achieved. The performances of the proposed control technique were observed using a small tuna canned food plant in Thailand as an illustrative example. The experimental results are given to support the saving in energy costs and some benefits of the proposed technique.
To research were procedure condition of cellulase and remove effect of endocarp of mandarine orange from the result obtained it could be summarize as follow. 1. Optimal conditions affecting the production of cellulolytic enzyme of Aspergillus saitoi are followings: optimal temperature $30^{\circ}C$ and optimal culture period 3days. 2. When mandarine orange was soaked in 10 fold diluent of enzyme(diluent of enzyme: mandarine orange=2 : 1) and reacted under $40^{\circ}C$ for 3.5-4hrs, it was most effective and available to the remove of endocarp, flavour, and lustre important to the canning process of mandarine orange syrup.
