  • In this paper, a new method for detecting various objects that can be risks to safety navigation in sea environment is proposed. By analysing Infrared(IR) images obtained from various sea environments, we could find out that object regions include both horizontal and vertical direction edges while background regions of sea surface mainly include vertical direction edges. Therefore, we present an approach to detecting object regions considering horizontal and vertical edges. To this end, in the first step, image enhancement is performed by suppressing noises such as sea glint and complex clutters using a statistical filter. In the second step, a horizontal edge map and a vertical edge map are generated by 1-D Discrete Cosine Transform technique. Then, a combined map integrating the horizontal and the vertical edge maps is generated. In the third step, candidate object regions are detected by a adaptive thresholding method. Finally, exact object regions are extracted by eliminating background and clutter regions based on morphological operation.

  • The present study was carried out to investigate the antitumor activity of Salvia miltiorrhiza (SM) herbal extract in rat tumor model. We used a new tumor animal model for the invasion and metastasis of cancer using genetically k-ras-induced rat kidney cells (RK3E-ras). We observed tumor as early as 7 days after the injection of RK3E-ras cells in subcutaneous of Sprague-Dawley rats. All of the rats developed tumor mass at the inoculated site. After 7 days, the experimental groups were divided into two: saline control and injected with SM (200 mg/kg) groups. We investigated tumor's weight, size and hepatic metastasis of each group. Injection of SM herbal extract every other day for 14 days significantly inhibited tumor growth. Histologically, the tumors were undifferentiated carcinoma showing multifactorial necrosis and hemorrhage; also, the tumor invaded into hepatoportal region. Treatment with SM herbal extract caused significant inhibition of tumor cell proliferation. Our data showed that SM herbal extract is effective in controlling the tendency of tumor cell proliferation and metastasis by injection of RK3E-ras cells. These findings provided the potential value of SM as a novel antitumor agent candidate.

  • The effect of the surface treatments on the high temperature properties of the Inconel 617, one of the promising candidate alloys for high temperature heat-transport system, has been studied. Various surface modification methods including a rapid thermal process(RTP), a hydrothermal treatment, and a physical vapor deposition($2{\mu}m$ thick TiAlN film by an arc discharge) were applied to the Inconel 617. The morphological and the structural properties of the surface-modified Inconel 617 samples after heat treatment at $1000^{\circ}C$ in the air were compared to find out whether inhomogeneous formation of $Cr_2O_3$ crust at the surface region was suppressed or not. TiAlN-coated Inconel 617 showed homogeneous microstructure and the lowest wear loss compared to bare, RTP- and hydrothermally-treated Inconel 617 by suppressing the $Cr_2O_3$ crust formation.

  • In this paper we proposed the watermarking technique using the markspace which is selected by tree-structure between the subbands in the wavelet domain and feature information in the spatial domain. The watermarking candidate region in the wavelet domain is obtained by the markspace selection algorithm divides the highest frequency subband to several segments and calculates theirs energy and the averages value of the total energy of the subband. Also the markspace of the spatial domain is obtained by the boundary information of a image. The final markspace is selected by the markspaces of the wavelet and spatial domain. The watermark is embedded into the selected markspace using the random addresses by LFSR. Finally the watermarking image is generated using the inverse wavelet transform. The proposed watermarking algorithm shows the robustness against the attacks such as JPEG, blurring, sharpening, and gaussian noise.

  • This study was conducted to find the suitability site for the construction of Saemangeum horticulture complex taking into account cost-effective environmental management by analyzing and comparing meteorological conditions. By overlapping the thematic maps, we extracted the regions that scored 50-59 points as suitable sites for the development project. Of these pre-selected sites, we selected the final candidate region for the protected horticulture by overlapping the sites selected for agricultural and living environment construction. The results of this study will contribute to generating added values by minimizing the environmental management costs for horticulture and landscaping. The operation of a large-scale protected horticulture and landscaping in the Saemangeum Complex will enhance the agricultural competitiveness of our country in the global market.

  • The Because of its high thermal efficiency, the direct injection (DI) diesel engine has emerged as a promising potential candidate in the field of transportation. However, the amount of nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) increases in the local high-temperature regions and that of particulate matter (PM) increases in the diffusion flame region during diesel combustion. In the de-$NO_x$ system the Lean $NO_x$ Trap (LNT) catalyst is used, which absorbs $NO_x$ under lean exhaust gas conditions and releases it in rich conditions. This technology can provide a high $NO_x$-conversion efficiency, but the right amount of reducing agent should be supplied to the catalytic converter at the right time. In this research, the emission characteristics of a diesel engine equipped with a micro-reformer that acts as a reductants-supplying equipment were investigated using an LNT system, and the effects of the exhaust-gas temperature were also studied.

  • Biological or physiological genes that regulate metabolism and energy partitioning have the potential to influence economically important traits such as carcass and meat quality traits in beef cattle. The neuropeptide Y (NPY) functions as a central appetite stimulator and plays a major role in feed intake and energy-balance control. Therefore, the NPY gene is an excellent biological and physiological candidate gene for body weight, feeding, fatness or growth related traits in beef cattle. The objective of this study was to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the NPY gene and to evaluate the association of NPY SNP markers with carcass and meat quality traits in Korean cattle. The genomic region (711 bp) including intron 2 of NPY gene was amplified and sequenced, and five SNPs, g.4389 Del(C), g.4371Del(C), g.4271T>C, g.1899A>G and g.1517A>C, were identified. The PCR-RFLP method was then developed to genotype the individuals examined. The g.4271T>C SNP was significantly associated with M. Longissimus dori area (LDA) value (p<0.027). Animals with the TT ($78.144{\pm}0.950\;cm^2$) genotype had higher LDA than those with the CC ($72.266{\pm}2.039\;cm^2$), and animals with TC genotype showed intermediate value. This SNP genotype also showed a highly significant additive genetic effect for the LDA (p<0.01). No significant associations, however, was detected between any of the SNP genotype and other carcass traits measured in this study. In conclusion, SNP genotype of the NPY gene may be used as DNA markers to select animals that have a higher meat yield.

  • POU1F1 is a positive regulator for GH, PRL and TSH${\beta}$ and its mutations associate with production traits in ruminant animals. We described a DdeI PCR-RFLP method for detecting a silent allele in the goat POU1F1 gene: TCT (241Ser)>TCG (241Ser). Frequencies of $D_1$ allele varied from 0.600 to 1.000 in Chinese 801 goats. Significant associations of DdeI polymorphism with production traits were found in milk yield (*p<0.05), litter size (*p<0.05) and one-year-old weight (*p<0.05) between different genotypes. Individuals with genotype $D_1D_1$ had a superior performances when compared to those with genotype $D_1D_2$ (*p<0.05). Hence, the POU1F1 gene was suggested to the potential candidate gene for superior milk performance, reproduction trait and weight trait. Genotype $D_1D_1$, characterized by a DdeI PCR-RFLP detection, was recommended to geneticists and breeders as a molecular marker for better performance in the goat industry.

  • Cold stress is one of the most influenced factors to rice yield. In order to identify genes related to cold stress in fertility stage, genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted. Cultivated 129 rice germplasm were moved in the growth chamber under the condition of $12^{\circ}C/RH70%$(12h day/12h night when the rice plant was grown in 10 DBH(days before heading). Also, rice plant as control was moved in the green house under condition of $28^{\circ}C/RH70%$(12h day/12h night). After 4 days the plants were moved in a greenhouse. The fertility of rice plant were monitored after the grain were fully grown. The most tolerant rice germplasm to cold stress were Cheongdo-Hwayang-12 and IR38 as 63.1 and 61.8 of fertility and the most recessive rice germplasm were Danyang38 and 8 rice germplasm as 0. As a result of GWAS with re-sequencing data and fertility after cold treatment germplasm using genome association and prediction integrated tool (GAPIT), 99 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were observed by applying a significance threshold of -logP>4.5 determined by QQ plot. With SNPs region, 14 candidate genes responded to cold stress in fertility stage were identified.

  • The TMY (Typical Meteorological Year) for the solar energy study is generated using observation data with 22 solar sites from KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) during 11 years (2000-2010). The meteorological data for calculation the TMY are used solar radiation, temperature, dew point temperature, wind speed and humidity data. And the TMY is calculated to apply the FS (Finkelstein and Schafer) statistics and RMSE (Root Mean Squared Error) methods. FS statistics performed with each point and each variable and then selected top five candidate TMM months with statistical analysis and normalization. Finally TMY is generated to select the highest TMM score with evaluation the average errors for the 22 whole points. The TMY data is represented average state and long time variations with 22 sites and meteorological data. When TMY validated with the 11-year daily solar radiation data, the correlation coefficient was about 0.40 and the highest value is 0.57 in April and the lowest value is 0.23 in May. Mean monthly solar radiation of TMY is 411.72 MJ which is 4 MJ higher than original data. Average correlation coefficient is 0.71, the lowest correlation is 0.43 in May and the highest correlation is 0.90 in January. Accumulated annual solar radiation by TMY have higher value in south coast and southwestern region and have relatively low in middle regions. And also, differences between TMY and 11-year mean of is distributed lower 100 MJ in Kyeongbuk, higher 200 MJ in Jeju and higher 125 MJ in Jeonbuk and Jeonnam, respectively.
