  • The PIG(Pipeline Inspection Gauge) is inserted in the pipeline and stores data of pipeline. In order to investigate the status of pipeline, a lot of sensors such as caliper, pressure, IMU and odometer are used. In this paper, the navigation storage data system for PIG is developed. It has master/slave structure for a real time operation. The master system stores data, while the slave system acquire the data from sensors. The performance of the developed system is verified by pull rig test.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the consistency of external ear measurements obtained by electronic digital caliper, photocopier scanning and digital photographic methods. Photogrammetric measurements were made after image editing software was used to optimize the brightness, contrast, size and image clarity. The CorelDRAW dimension tool was used to create a dimension line that measured the vertical and horizontal length between any two landmarks. Results of repeated measures analysis of variance revealed no significant differences in length and width of the pinna between the three methods. The reliability of the three measurement techniques showed a high degree of consistency. Further study and efforts could be extended to measurement hands, foots and facial dimensions by present techniques.

  • Wood shrinkage, an important study subject with regard to the use of wood, has long been studied by researchers. However, when the size of a wood specimen is measured, distortion must be taken into account, which can be accomplished by applying external force on the wood specimen. However, when measuring a large number of specimens, this technique can be a lengthy process. If the size is measured and the shrinkage is calculated from images acquired with a flatbed scanner, it is possible to reduce the error in the measurement and to shorten the measurement time because the images of many specimens can be acquired with one scan. To clearly establish the boundary between a wood specimen and the background in a scan, an image threshold method was applied here. The size of a wood specimen measured by means of a scanner image was found to be longer than the value determined with a vernier caliper. The maximum pixel size of a scan image for highly accurate shrinkage calculations compared with the use of a vernier caliper was 0.053 mm/pixel.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of Root ZX and Sybron Mini in determining the working length using 2.5% Sodium Hypochlorite, 2% Chlorhexidine gel and saline. Donnelly's gelatin technique was used for measuring twenty extracted human teeth. Electronic working length was measured at the display 0.5 and 0.0 level of each electronic apex locator using a digital caliper to the nearest 0.01 mm. Each measurement was repeated for each different irrigants. Accuracy of Sybron Mini was not significantly different from the Root ZX in the three different irrigants, and there was no significant difference in the accuracy of electronic apex locators among the irrigants when used as recommended by manufacturer (measuring electronic working length at 0.0 level of Sybron Mini and at 0.5 level of Root ZX).

  • Purpose : To evaluate the magnification error percentage in repeatedly taken panoramic radiographs of same patient and machine. Materials and Methods : 92 panoramic radiographs from 46 patients were traced and 30 horizontal and vertical measurements were made with digital sliding caliper. The results were compared with paired t-test. Results : There was no statistically significant difference between the two measurements. The overall difference as percentage error was $6.19\pm5.60\%$. The largest error as $14.61\pm12.44\%$ was found at condylar height 1, and smallest as $1.86\pm1.61\%$ at mandibular height. Overall vertical error excluding condylar height 1 was $3.76\pm3.97\%$, and the horizontal error $6.88\pm5.92\%$. Conclusion . Repeatedly taken panoramic radiographs of the same patient and machine was reliable since there was no significant percentage error difference but the percentage error ranged from $1.86\pm1.61\%\;to\;14.61\pm12.44\%$ indicating the error depends on the measuring site.

  • The author measured the maximum interincisal distance by means of the sliding caliper. The subjects measured here were 149 healthy Korean males and 229 females, ranging from 15 to 49 years old, with normal occlusion. The results were as follows; 1. The mean value of maximum interincisal distance was $50.03{\pm}0.22mm$. in male and $45.18{\pm}0.14mm$. in female. 2. There was a significant difference in the mean value between male female. 3. The interincisal distances in maximum opening were slightly larger in male than female. 4. There was no significant difference in the mean value between the age groups in Korean adults. But it has been revealed that there was apparent difference in the mean value between 15~19 years and 20~29 years old, in female. 5. It has been appeared that maximum interincisal distance in male was 69mm, minimum 37mm., and maximum interincisal distance in female was 58mm. minimum. 30mm.

  • The geometry PIG provides pipeline operators with continuous measurement of pipe centerline coordinates, bend radius, displacement, and bending strain in a single pass through the pipeline. This study introduces the developed geometry PIG(Pipeline Inspection Gauge) which is used for geometry surveys. This tool is equipped with the several sensor systems. The Inertial Navigation System (INS) comprises angle rate gyros and linear accelerometers. The system measures the precise path of the PIG during its traverse of the pipeline. This system is also used to produce a detailed map of the lire, measure curvature. Odometers measure the PIG´s distance moved along the line and instantaneous speed during the PIG run. • Purpose: Dental diagnostic records derived from study models are a popular method of obtaining reliable and vital information. Conventional plaster models are the most common method, however, they are being gradually replaced by digital impressions as technology advances. Moreover, three-dimensional dental models are becoming increasingly common in dental offices, and various methods are available for obtaining them. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of the measurement of dental digital models by comparing them with conventional plaster and to determine their clinical validity. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 16 patients' maxillary and mandibular dental models. Tooth size (TS), intercanine width (ICW), intermolar width (IMW), and Bolton analysis were taken by using a digital caliper on a plaster model obtained from each patient, while intraoral scans were manually measured using two digital analysis software. A one-way analysis of variance test was used to compare the dental measurements of the three methods. Result: No significant differences were reported between the TS, the ICW and IMW, and the Bolton analysis through the conventional and two digital groups. Conclusion: Measurements of TS, arch width, and Bolton analysis produced from digital models have shown acceptable clinical validity. No significant differences were observed between the three dental measurement techniques.
