Design of Electronic Parking Brake Control Simulator for Emergency Vehicle Braking (차량 비상제동을 위한 전자식 주차 브레이크 제어 시뮬레이터 설계)

  • In this paper, a simulator hardware and control design for an electronic parking brake (EPB) are proposed for emergency vehicle braking when the hydraulic break and anti-lock brake systems (ABS) fail to function. EPB systems are designed specifically for park braking and are usually installed on the rear wheels. However, in an emergency situation when all vehicle brake systems fail, the EPB can be utilized to stop the vehicle and track the target slip ratio as the ABS. This paper analyzed the non-linear EBP of the type of motor on caliper (MoC) based on experiments. A simulator hardware is also designed to validate the performance of the designed EPB controller in terms of braking distance and performance in tracking the target slip ratio. Through the experimental analysis, it is confirmed that a sliding mode controller can be applied on a non-linear EPB to track the target slip ratio.

  • Disc brake noise continues to be a major concern throughout the automotive industry despite efforts to reduce its occurrence. Eliminating vibrations during braking is an important task for both vehicle passenger comfort and reducing the overall environmental noise levels. There are several classes of disc brake noise, the major ones being squeal, judder, groan, and moan. In this study, analytical model for moan noise of rear disk brake is investigated. Modeling of the disc brake assembly to take account of the effect of different geometrical and contact parameters is studied through the use of multi-body model. The contact stiffness of the caliper and torque member plays an important role in controlling brake vibration. Therefore, a suitable material pair at the caliper/body contact has been made. An ADAMS model of a rear disc brake system was integrated with a flexible suspension trailng arm from MSC/NASTRAN. A fully non-linear dynamic simulatin of brake system behavior, containing rigid and flexible bodies, was performed for a Prescribed set of operating conditions. Simulation results were validated using data from vehicle experimental testing.

  • Based on the design requirements for the rubber-tired AGT light rail vehicle. the braking system was designed. Its major components are a brake operating unit, a pneumatic-hydraulic transfer, screw compressor, oil separator. air dryer, hydraulic caliper. After the components of braking system were manufactured. some factory tests were executed to evaluate their performances. The Results of these tests can guarantee a performance. safety of the braking system developed.

Signal Processing for MoC Brake Rattle Noise of Moving Vehicles Using Prony Analysis (프로니 분석을 이용한 주행 환경에서의 브레이크 래틀 소음 발생 특성 분석)

  • To verify the possibility of generating rattling noise from a motor on caliper brake system, a test was conducted using a caliper excited with vibrations similar to that in a vehicle running on actual roads; this test was conducted using a quiet shaker installed in an anechoic room. After several hours of external excitation, the test assembly was loosened, and the frequency of rattling noise generation increased. A microphone was used to record the generated noise. The measured signals were analyzed by conventional spectrum analysis. Since the noise is generated as an impact response, the advantages of employing Prony analysis was discussed, and the results were compared to those obtained using conventional fast Fourier transforms. The accuracy of Prony analysis was through endurance tests on different brake systems.

  • This study investigates the comprehensive system for collecting intelligent learning activity data tailored to learner-centered personalized education. We compared and analyzed the characteristics of xAPI, Caliper analytics, and cmi5, which are learning activity data collection standards, and established a system that allows not only standardized data but also non-standardized learning activity data to be stored as big data for artificial intelligence learning analysis. As a result, the system was structured into five stages: defining data types, standardizing learning data using xAPI, storing big data, conducting learning analysis (statistical and AI-based), and providing learner-tailored services. The aim was to establish a foundation for analyzing learning data using artificial intelligence technology. In future research, we will divide the entire system into three stages, implement and execute it, and correct and supplement any shortcomings in the design.

  • Caliper intergrated Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is an automatic parking brake system, attached to rear caliper. Because EPB uses luxury vehicles recently, the drivers of vehicles are sensitive to the EPB noise. EPB is operated by the motor and gear, so noise is generated by motor and gear. In order to reduce noise, One of EPB manufacturers uses helical gear and changes the shape of EPB housing. But these methods are not optimized for reduction of interior noise. There are many noise transfer paths into vehicle interior and it is difficult to identify the noise sources. Therefore, in this study, we performed contribution analysis and modal testing in the vehicle system. It is possible to distinguish between air-borne noise and structure-borne noise in the vehicle interior noise by comparing interior noise peak with resonance mode map.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate internal conical abutment sinking and fitness according to the loading condition. In this study, Alloden implant fixture and two abutment(conventional, FDI) systems were used. Each abutment was applied 1 time of finger force, 3 times of malleting force, 5 times of 20kg and extra several times to the fixture until the amount of abutment singking showed no change. Then, the length of abutment to fixture which was binding lightly with no pressure state was measured by Vernier caliper. After loading application, the length was remeasured and the amount of sinking was calculated. The implant was buried in unsaturated polyester (Epovia, Cray Valley Inc. Korea) for making a comparison between the change of length and fitness of abutment-fixture connection part. Then All samples were cross-sectioned with high speed precision cut-off(accutom-5, Struers, Denmark). Finally, The result were observed and analyzed using FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy).

  • Braking performance of a vehicle can be significantly affected by the temperature increment in the brake system. Therefore, the important problem in brake system is to reduce the thermal effect by friction heat. Recently, many studies have been performed and good results have been reported on the prediction of the brake disk temperature. However, the study on the pad, piston and brake fluid temperature is rarely found despite of its importance. In this study, the temperature distribution of the disc brake system is studied according to the material properties of brake piston. Vehicle deceleration, weight distribution by deceleration, disc-pad heat division and the cooling of brake components are considered in the analysis of heat transfer. Unsteady state temperature distributions are analyzed by using the finite element method and the numerical results are compared with the experimental data.

  • The geometry PIG provides pipeline operators with continuous measurement of pipe centerline coordinates, bend radius, displacement, and bending strain in a single pass through the pipeline. This study introduces the developed geometry PIG(Pipeline Inspection Gauge) which is used for geometry surveys. This tool is equipped with the several sensor systems. The Inertial Navigation System (INS) comprises angle rate gyros and linear accelerometers. The system measures the precise path of the PIG during its traverse of the pipeline.   • This paper deals with friction-induced vibration of disc brake system under constant friction coefficient. A linear, lumped and distributed parameter model to represent the floating caliper disc brake system is proposed. The complex eigenvalues are used to investigate the dynamic stability and in order to verify simulations which are based on the theoretical model, the experimental modal test and the dynamometer test are performed. The comparison of experimental and theoretical results shows a good agreement and the analysis indicates that mode coupling due to friction force is responsible for disc brake squeal. And squeal type instability is investigated by using the parametric analysis. This indicates parameters which have influence on the propensity of brake squeal. This helped to validate the analysis model and establish confidence in the analysis results. Also they may be useful during system development or diagnostic analysis.
