  • A calibration curve is needed to determine the SBR and BR blend ratio of SBR/BR blend rubber compounds using pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass chromatography (Py-GC/MS) or Py-GC. In general, a calibration curve is obtained using reference SBR/BR vulcanizates with various blend ratios. In this study, the calibration curves were obtained using reference samples made of rubber solutions and were compared to those plotted using the reference SBR/BR vulcanizates. Calibration curves using variations of 1,3-butadiene/styrene, 4-vinylcyclohexene (VCH)/styrene, 2-phenylpropene (PhP)/butadiene, PhP/VCH, 4-phenylcyclohexene (PhCH)/butadiene, and PhCH/VCH ratios with the BR content were examined for the suitability. We found that the calibration curves obtained using the mixed rubber solution references (1,3-butadiene/styrene and PhP/butadiene) could replace those constructed using the reference SBR/BR vulcanizates. The calibration curves of 1,3-butadiene/styrene and PhP/butadiene obtained using the raw references can be used for the determination of the SBR/BR blend ratios by applying some correction factors.

  • In this paper, the problem concerning the color accuracy of imaging systems using color filters is examined. It is shown that the only solution to the problem is to build systems with the spectral response matching the CIE curves as closely as possible. If the spectral response does not closely match the CIE curves, it was demonstrated that calibration cannot solve the problem and will result in very unstable colorimeters. A practical solution that uses telecentric lenses on the sensor side in addition to dedicated color filters for each CCD detector is presented. For systems that closely match the CIE curves, an innovative method of improving the color accuracy based on the precise measurement of the spectral response is presented. The small discrepancies in the spectral response with regard to the CIE curves are corrected in different ways during the measurements. Finally, it is shown that the tristimulus calibration that is used for display measurement is very unstable for systems without CIE matching and is much more stable with systems that closely match the CIE curves.

  • Recently, boss and rib test based on backward extrusion process was proposed to quantitatively evaluate the interfacial friction condition in bulk forming process. In this test, the tube-shaped punch with hole pressurizes the workpiece so that the boss and rib are formed along the hole and outer surface of the punch. It was experimentally and numerically revealed that the height of boss is higher than that of the rib under the severe friction condition. This work is focused on the effect of the punch design and flow stress on deformation pattern in boss and rib test. From the boss and rib test simulations, it was found that there is slight variation in both the heights of boss and rib according to the length of punch land, nose radius, and face angle. However the hole diameter of the punch and the clearance between the punch and die have a significant influence on the calibration curves showing the heights of the boss and rib. In addition, the effect of flow stress on the calibration curves was investigated through FE simulations. It was found that there is no effect of strength coefficient of the workpiece on the calibration curves for estimation of friction condition. On the other hand, the strain-hardening exponent of the workpiece has a significant influence on the calibration curve.

  • A new model which requires one branch of main curves for the model calibration is developed based on the assumption that the weighting factor accounting for the pore blockage effect against air entry, $P_a({\theta})$, in Mualem's Model III-1 has a linear relation to the dimensionless pore radius r. The proposed model simulates experimental data more accurately than existing models which require one branch of main curves for the model calibration. Previous study showed that Model III-1 is the most appropriate model among domain models which require two branches of main curves for the model calibration. In comparison of the proposed model with Model III-1, both simulate hysteresis curves with almost the same accuracy. The proposed model can be applied efficiently in analyzing the unsaturated flow.

  • The Purpose of this study is to classify existing hysteresis models and to discuss a possibility of a new type of the hysteresis model. The existing hysteresis models are classified into three types: the interpolation model, the scaling model and the domain model, of which only domain model is to simulate hysteresis curves based on the theoretical approach, It is useful to develop a hysteresis model that requires only one branch of hysteresis curves for the model calibration because obtaining hysteresis curves by experiments is expensive and time-concept by many investigators, however their models are not successful to accurately simulate real data of Rubicon Sandy Loam and Dune Sand. There is a possibility that a new model is based on the dependent domain concept considering the weighting factor, $P_a$($\theta$), which accounts for the pore blockage effect against air entry. Conclusively, a new model where the weighting factor $P_a$($\theta$) in Model III-1 (Mualem, 1984) reduces to a known variable through an appropriate method is an alternative model which required only one branch of main curves for the model calibration.

  • A rapid and simple determination of diazepam in intact diazepam tablets has been investigated using the near infrared spectroscopy(NIRS) combined with partial least squares regession. The separate calibration curves of 2 mg and 5 mg diazepam tablets were studied, as well as the linearity, concentration range and reproducibility of those calibration curves were evaluated. The correlation coefficients of calibration curves of 2 mg and 5 mg diazepam tablets are 0.9416 and 0.9159, respectively and the standard errors of calibration curves(SEC) are 0.018% and 0.032%, respectively.

  • This paper presents the characteristics of the dynamic response and calibration technique on a linear variable differential transformer(LVDT). The linear error of the LVDT was proven $\pm$1% in the static calibration and $\pm$0.5% in the dynamic calibration. In this paper, the linearity error generated in the static and dynamic state of the core movement can be eliminated using the correction algorithem of the static and dynamic state derived from the least square linear approximation for the nonlinearity of the curves of direct data fitting and Lagrange polynomials. With the static and dynamic calibration method, the calibration accuracy of the LVDT can be reduced to within $\pm{0.5%.}$.

  • The thermal desorption-gas chromatographic (TD-GC) system has been constructed for the measurement of volatile organic compounds. The thermal desortion unit is composed of four major parts: 1) the control part; 2) the thermal desorption part; 3) the focusing part; and 4) the injection part. The peltier element was introduced to the focusing part for the temperature of the focusing tube to reach-35$^{\circ}C$. The system was tested for the linearity of the calibration curves and reproducibility of instrumental analyses using some disinfection by-products (DBPs) and BTXs (benzene, toluene and p-xylene). The coefficients of determination (r$^2$) for all the calibration curves made were higher than 0.998, and the coefficients of variation (CV) for triplicate measurements were all within 10%. The system also has been tested for field applicability. The analysis of field samples showed that there was no breakthrough problem in the sampling system and that the system could be applied to field measurements.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the sampling methods for monitoring indoles (phenol, p-cresol, indole and skatole) in airs of swine facility. As the collecting methods of indoles in air, Tenax-TA adsorption tube and solid phase microextraction (SPME) were examined. For the preparation of calibration curves of indoles concentrated in Tenax-TA, the standard indoles solutions were spiked in each of Tenax-TA tubes and thermally desorbed (ATD) into a gas chromatograph combined with mass detector (GC/MS). And for the preparation of calibration curves by SPME, indoles in the standard gaseous solution prepared by evaporating the aqueous solution that contained indoles into a polyester sampling bag were extracted with SPME fiber and subsequently analyzed by the GC/MS. Two sampling methods were evaluated for extracting indoles present in swine building environments. Results indicated that the SPME method using Polydimethylsiloxane/ Divinylbenzene (PDMS/DVB) fiber was more effective than Tenax-TA method in extracting indoles. The gas chromatographic analysis showed that the linearities of calibration curves and detection limits were useful for detection of indoles in swine airs. The field tests also showed that considerably different levels of indoles were present in various parts of the swine building.

  • We have obtained theoretical calibration curves to convert the amount of polarization into the strength of magnetic field, by a numerical calculation of radiation transfer for the polarized spectral line of FeI $6303{\AA}$. In our calculation, three kinds of atmospheric models (VAL-C, penumbra, umbra) have been used to make a proper calibration for an active region composed of quiet, penumbral and umbral areas. It was found that firstly, the results of our calculation depend highly on a kind of atmospheric model rather than on any other input parameters used in a model. Secondly, observed line profile showed m solar spectrum atlas proved to be very similar to the calculated profiles obtained by using a penumbra model. Finally, another method except this calibration curve should be developed to estimate correctly the distribution of magnetic field in solar active region from the observation of polarized spectral line.
