Reduced Titania Films with Ordered Nanopores and Their Application to Visible Light Water Splitting

  • We report on the photoelectrochemical properties of partially reduced mesoporous titania thin films. The fabrication is achieved by synthesizing mesoporous titania thin films through the self-assembly of a titania precursor and a block copolymer, followed by aging and calcination, and heat-treatment under a $H_2$ (1 torr) environment. Depending on the temperature used for the reaction with $H_2$, the degree of the reduction (generation of oxygen vacancies) of the titania is controlled. The oxygen vacancies induce visible light absorption, and decrease of resistance while the mesoporosity is practically unaltered. The photoelectrochemical activity data on these films, by measuring their photocurrent-potential behavior in 1 M NaOH electrolyte under AM 1.5G 100 mW $cm^{-2}$ illumination, show that the three effects of the oxygen vacancies contribute to the enhancement of the photoelectrochemical properties of the mesoporous titania thin films. The results show that these oxygen deficient $TiO_2$ mesoporous thin films hold great promise for a solar hydrogen generation. Suggestions for the materials design for improved photoelectrochemical properties are made.

  • 다양한 양이온을 가지는 imidazolium hexafluorophosphate를 이용하여 탄소담지 팔라듐 촉매를 제조하여 이를 hexafluoropropylene 수소화 반응에 사용하였다. 팔라듐의 입자형태는 사용된 이온성액체의 양이온에 영향을 받는 것이 관찰되었다. 이온성액체와 팔라듐 입자 사이의 입체적 안정화 영향으로 인하여 양이온 부분의 알킬 길이가 증가할수록 팔라듐입자는 구형에서 원통형으로 변하였다. $500^{\circ}C$에서 소성한 촉매 모두 동일한 결정구조를 형성하였다. 일정한 반응조건에서 양이온에 hexyl기를 가진 이온성액체로 합성한 촉매가 가장우수한 반응성을 보였다.

Effect of vanadium surface density and structure in VOx/TiO2 on selective catalytic reduction by NH3

  • We investigated the correlation between vanadium surface density and VOx structure species in the selective catalytic reduction of NOx by $NH_3$. The properties of the $VOx/TiO_2$ catalysts were investigated using physicochemical measurements, including BET, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, FE-TEM, UV-visible DRS, $NH_3-TPD$, $H_2-TPR$, $O_2-On/Off$. Catalysts were prepared using the wet impregnation method by supporting 1.0-3.0 wt% vanadium on $TiO_2$ thermally treated at various calcination temperatures. Through the above analysis, we found that VOx surface density was $3.4VOx/nm^2$, and the optimal V loading amounts were 2.0-2.5 wt% and the specific surface area was $65-80m^2/g$. In addition, it was confirmed that the optimal VOx surface density and formation of vanadium structure species correlated with the reaction activity depending on the V loading amounts and the specific surface area size.

Sodium titanate as an infrared reflective material for cool roof application

  • A solid-state route was used to prepare sodium titanium oxide (NTO, Na2Ti3O7) as a solar heat protecting material with an impressive solar reflectance (TSR = 94.3%) using a high refractive index rutile TiO2. The solar reflectance of the synthesized NTO was measured using UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. Solar reflectance property of the synthesized compound depends on the calcination temperature. The solar reflectance property of the synthesized NTO powder was compared with commercial rutile TiO2. The compound synthesized at 900 ℃ for 24 hrs had remarkable solar reflectance 94.3% than that calcined below 900 ℃. Crystalline nature, structural property, morphology and optical properties of NTO powders were characterized and analyzed using XRD, FE-SEM, EDS and UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. From the results, we guessed that NTO would be a suitable "solar heat protecting candidate" for energy-saving applications in coating industries.

크롬 치환에 따른 흑색 세라믹 안료의 발색 특성 연구 (Effect of Chrome Substitution on Coloration Characteristics of Black Ceramic Pigments)

  • The properties of black ceramic pigments including thermal and glaze stability were systematically investigated so that these pigments could be used to decorate porcelain products. Various compositions of $(Ni,Mn)(Fe,Cr,Mn)_2O_4$ and $Co(Fe,Cr)_2O_4$ powders were synthesised using a solid state reaction method. The obtained $Co(Fe,Cr)_2O_4$ and $(Ni,Mn)(Fe,Cr,Mn)_2O_4$ powders showed single phases of spinel structure after calcination processes at $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1200^{\circ}C$, respectively. CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ colourimetric parameters of glazed $Co(Fe,Cr)_2O_4$ and $(Ni,Mn)(Fe,Cr,Mn)_2O_4$ pigments were analyzed according to the different amounts of Cr substitution. In addition, the amount of $Cr^{+6}$ remaining in the $Co(Fe,Cr)_2O_4$ and $(Ni,Mn)(Fe,Cr,Mn)_2O_4$ pigments was also measured.

LED용 Sr-Y-Si-계 산질화물 황색 형광체의 발광 특성 (Luminescence properties of novel Sr-Y-Si-Oxynitride yellow phosphor for LED applications)

  • 고상반응법으로 Ba-Y-Si-계 산질화물 황색 형광체를 합성하였고, 형광체의 발광특성에 미치는 고상반응온도, 환원 열처리 온도 및 $Eu^{2+}$ 활성제 농도의 영향에 대하여 조사하였다. 고상반응온도 $1400^{\circ}C$, 환원 열처리 온도 $1300^{\circ}C$가 최적화된 온도조건으로 조사되었다. 450 nm 파장의 여기 광원에 대하여 합성된 $Ba_9Y_{2+y}Si_6O_{24-3y}N_{3y}:Eu^{2+}$ 형광체는 571~585 nm 영역의 중심파장을 갖는 단일 발광밴드 특성을 나타내었다. 활성제 $Eu^{2+}$ 농도가 3 mol%일 때 가장 강한 발광강도가 얻어졌으며, 5 mol% 이상의 농도에서는 농도소광현상이 관찰되었다. FE-SEM 및 PSA 분석 결과 합성된 형광체는 약 $8.2{\mu}m$의 평균 입경을 갖는 것으로 확인되었다.

  • 광물인 금홍석과 공업용 $K_2CO_3$를 사용하여 $1000^{\circ}C$, 3시간 그리고 $K_2O$에 대한 금홍석의 몰비 2.0의 조건으로 초생상을 합성하였으며, 이를 비등수로 10시간 처리하여 중간상인 층상 구조의 사비탄산칼륨을 합성하였다. 그리고 중간상을 0.005M의 염산으로 30분 동안 처리하여 $KHTi_4O_9{\cdot}1.1H_2O$를 얻었으며, 이를 $400{\sim}600^{\circ}C$의 온도범위에서 열처리하여 길이 $10{\mu}m$, 직경 $0.2{\mu}m$의 팔티탄산칼륨을 합성하였다.

Vapor Permeation Characteristics of TiO2 Composite Membranes Prepared on Porous Stainless Steel Support by Sol-Gel Method

  • Composite membranes with a titania layer were prepared by soaking-rolling method with the titania sol of nanoparticles formed in the sol-gel process and investigated regarding the vapor permeation of various organic mixtures. The support modification was conducted by pressing $SiO_2$ xerogel of 500 nm in particle size under 10 MPa on the surface of a porous stainless steel (SUS) substrate and designed the multi-layered structure by coating the intermediate layer of ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. Microstructure of titania membrane was affected by heat-treatment and synthesis conditions of precursor sol, and titania formed at calcination temperature of 300$^{\circ}C$ with sol of [$H^+$]/[TIP]=0.3 possessed surface area of 210 $m^2$/g, average pore size of 1.25 nm. The titania composite membrane showed high $H_2/N_2$ selectivity and water/ethanol selectivity as 25-30 and 50-100, respectively. As a result of vapor permeation for water-alcohol and alcohol-alcohol mixture, titania composite membrane showed water-permselective and molecular-sieve permeation behavior. However, water/methanol selectivity of the membrane was very low because of chemical affinity of permeants for the membrane by similar physicochemical properties of water and methanol.

기계적 혼합과 고상법에 의한 LiNiO2의 합성과 전기화학적 특성 (Study on the Synthesis by Milling and Solid-State Reaction Method and Electrochemical Properties of LiNiO2)

  • [ $LiNiO_2$ ] was synthesized by the solid-state method after mixing $LiOH{\cdot}H_2O$ and $Ni(OH)_2$ with SPEX mill. The optimum condition for the synthesis of $LiNiO_2$ was the calcination at $750^{\circ}C$ for 30h in $O_2$ stream after milling for 1 h. The $LiNiO_2$ synthesized under this condition showed relatively large value of $I_{003}/I_{104}$ and relatively small value of R-factor. When $LiNiO_2$ was cycled in 2.7$\~$4.15 V at 0.1C-rate, the first discharge capacity was not very large (145.8 mAh/g) but it showed good cycling performance. When $LiNiO_2$ was cycled in 2.7$\~$4.2 V at 0.1C-rate, the first discharge capacity was large but ,it showed poor cycling performance probably because of the transition of H2 hexagonal structure to H3 hexagonal structure. In addition, when $LiNiO_2$ was cycled in 1.0$\~$4.8 V at 1/24C- rate, the first discharge capacity was very large (257.7 mAh/g) and the discharge capacity increased with the number of cycles.

유기산에 의한 인듐스크랩에서 고순도 인듐옥살산염의 제조 (Preparation of High-purity Indium Oxalate Salt from Indium Scrap by Organic Acids)

  • ITO glass 제조공정에서 발생되는 인듐스크랩으로부터 인듐옥살산염의 제조에서 유기산의 영향을 연구하였다. 유기산의 종류, 농도 그리고 반응액의 pH, 온도, 시간 등을 변화시키면서 인듐옥살산염 제조에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 불순물 제거 효율은 구연산 및 옥살산 모두 비슷하였으나 구연산은 인듐과 유기산염을 형성하지 못하였다. 인듐옥살산염 제조의 최적 조건은 옥살산 농도 1.5M, pH 7, 반응온도 $80^{\circ}C$, 반응시간 6시간이었다. 한편, pH가 증가하면 회수율은 증가하지만, 순도는 감소하였다. 2회 반복으로 제조된 인듐옥살산염의 순도는 99.995% (4N5)를 나타내었다. 인듐옥살산염은 치환반응, 소성 등에 의해 인듐금속 및 인듐산화물 등으로 전환할 수 있다.
