In this study, a finite element(FE) analysis on electro-mechanical impedance response of cable-anchor connection interface under various anchor force is presented. In order to achieve the objective, the following approaches are implemented. Firstly, an interface washer coupled with piezoelectric(PZT) material is designed for monitoring cable-force loss. The interface washer is a small aluminum plate on which a PZT patch is surface-bonded. Cable-force loss could be monitored by installing the interface washer between the anchor plate and the anchorage of cable-anchor connection and examining the changes of impedance of the interface washer. Secondly, a FE model for cable-anchor connection is established to examine the effect of cable-force on impedance response of interface washer. Also, the effects of geometrical and material properties of the interface washer on impedance responses under various cable-forces are investigated. Finally, validation of the FE analysis is experimentally evaluated by a lab-scale cable-anchor connection.
The cable connection zone of the cable-stayed bridge transfers deal-load, live-load, and second-load to the cables on the structural joint zone of the cables and the main girders are the most critical parts in which big cable tensile forces are generated by those loads. Therefore, it is necessary to thoroughly check the main girder, structurally to secure the required stability. Because of the heavy tensile force of cables linked in the connection zone of the cable-stayed bridge, locally concentrated stress, as well as the dispersion of stress, occurs in the structurally contacted point of cable and main girder thus, we need to make a thorough investigation through a detailed structural analysis. Directly delivering the tensile force to the connection zone of the cable, the consequently big effect in the tensile force fluctuation caused by the live-load will make it necessary to review the fatigue strength. As the connection zone of the cable is designed to resist the tensile force of the cable, which is applied to a connecting section as a concentrated force, thick plates are used. These plates are frequently made of welded structure, thus, the investigation of the welding workability is inevitable.

The distribution line through which electricity is supplied from substation to customer generally varies by underground line and overhead line. In contrast that the underground line is shielded, the overhead lines do not have the shield layer. To overcome this weak point of the overhead lines, the aerial bundled cable(ABC) connection systems have been developed. The basic concept of the ABC connection system is the application of the underground cable system containing complete shield layer to the overhead cable system. The ABC system is the innovative technologies which enable the prevention of electric shocks, reduction of the maintenance charge and damage of the cable. This paper give a full detail of vertical connection system applied within a country.

OF cable with excellent reliability and economic efficiency, has been used as the main cable of underground transmission in Korea. However, as XLPE cable is excellent in view points such as reduction of loss, convenience on the construction/operation, and manufacturing technology, it has been replaced as instead of OF cable. Also, when the aging occurs in some sections of OF cable, the section is replaced as XLPE cable without changing of whole cable line. However, there are some differences like electrical constants between both types of cables. Therefore if underground transmission system will be operated as combined connection composited of both cables, it should be proved that overvoltage is stable in steady and transient state. This paper describes the effectiveness of connection operation in combined OF and XLPE cable. For the evaluation of effectiveness, some important analysis such as sheath component voltage, lightning and switching overvoltage, single line-to-ground fault are carried out in steady and transient state. EMTP/ATPDraw is used for modeling and analysis of system.

Cable member in structure is tension systems in which the load carrying members transmit loads to support system by tensile stress with no compression or flexure allowed. Cable system have been widely used large span structure roof, air-supported structure, prestressed membrane, cable network roof, suspension structures, guyed tower, ocean platforms, suspension bridges. Cable member can transmit loads by the edge connected system such as socket, swaging, mechanical splice sleave, clip, wedge, loop splice etc. This study will shown an experimental results on the strength of connection socket of cables. In the results of experiment, most of cable connection specimen occurred the failure at the connection socket part before the cable arrived at tensile failure load.

Due to the self-equilibrium status of the cable system, the loss of the tensioning in the cable system results in other cables carrying larger tension forces than those initially calculated by structural engineers. Also, turn-buckle systems, which have been widely used to pre-tension and/or re-tension the cables, are limited to use for small cables and to provide a rough estimation for tension forces. In this study, the re-tensioning cable connection systems were developed to overcome the problems mentioned above. The main objective of the proposed system is to re-tension large cables and measure the exact amount of tension forces of the cable systems. This connection system is also combined with the wireless signal monitoring module so that engineers are able to measure the tension forces any place where the internet is available. This paper presents the development of the re-tensioning cable connection systems and experiment using the real-scale cable systems to verify the fe-tensioning and signal monitoring systems.

High voltage CV cables have been widely installed underground due to their convenience and urban aesthetics. However, cable accidents have occurred frequently owing to poor construction and natural degradations. This paper proposes the method to measure the multi parameter measurement for optimum diagnostics of high voltage cable connection parts and verifies its technical usefulness. This measurement is intended to diagnose degradations of cable connection parts by using simultaneous vibration and thermography as well as partial discharge(PD). The experiment in a shielded laboratory was carried out to verify the usefulness of the multi parameter measurement. The experiment defined the degradation of the cable connection part as 12 types, and produced each degradation sample. As a result of experiment, it was possible to check the correlation of vibration signals with regard to progress in some defects. In the case of thermography, the coherence with regard to the progress of some defects was found. We figure that the proposed method would be useful also in the noise environment.
Damage detection methods which utilize the change in dynamic characteristics are very hard to apply to large civil structures since local damage hardly affects global dynamic characteristics. But, if there is a very important and critical member and we focus only on the local behavior of it, it would be possible to detect damage from the change in local dynamic characteristics, such as natural frequencies and mode shapes .In this study, the cable anchorage part of a cable-stayed bridge under construction is modeled and analyzed by commercial finite element program, ABAQUS. It has both welding and bolting connections with a cable and a stiffening plate, and has a possible high stress concentration portions in it. Several damage scenarios such as crack through the welding or crack through the bolting connection are examined. The result shows that the local natural frequencies of the damaged member decrease up to 16% compared with that of the undamaged member. It is concluded that there is quite a high feasibility that the damage of the cable anchorage can be detected by measuring local dynamic characteristics.

The purpose of development is to localize a connector for connection of cable and GIS for underground transmission system. The cable connector for GIS provides electrical insulation of GIS housing part and makes connection of ultra high voltage electrical apparatus and power cable by controlling electrical stress between electrodes of power cable termination. Generally Korean switchgear makers are using a connector for GIS made by foreign companies. We manufactured sample by best structure design of great capacity conductor connecting part and then modified the design by analysis of shape and section. We completed the suitable sample for current cycling test condition of conductor connecting part sample and ensured surge characteristics of line by short-time current test.
It shows a tendency to increase rapidly underground of the city due to the build up of the large residential districts with industrial development, so there is required the development of the connection device for underground low voltage cable with high quality & convenient for use with consideration for installation condition of the underground. Hence, We will have the development of the connection device for underground low voltage cable, which is made waterproof perfectly under the flood of the underground for the long time, is convenient for use in spite of narrow area such as manhole or handhole, and can be able to prevent the release by the vibration.
