The hydration behavior of fly ash and slag on cement paste were investigated. Early stage of hydration reaction was delayed by mixing fly ash and/or slag with cement, but production of C-S-H hydrates by pozzolanic reaction densified the microstructure. The Ca/Si ratio of C-S-H hydrates in OPC and blended cement of fly ash 50%, slag 50%, fly ash+slag 50% were 2.24, 1.80, 1.82 and 1.97, respectively. The C-S-H gel with low Ca/Si ratio showed rather reticulate than needle-like structure.
Calcium (Ca) and potassium (K) were introduced to remove Sr and Cs in soil, respectively. Four factor and three level Box-Bhenken design was employed to determine the optimal washing condition of Ca- and K-based solutions, and the ranges tested were 0.1 to 1 M of Ca or K, L/S ratio of 5 to 20, washing time of 0.5 to 2 h, and pH of 2 to 7. The optimal washing condition determined was 1 M of Ca or K, L/S ratio of 20, washing time of 1 h, and pH of 2, and Ca-based and K-based solutions showed 68 and 81% removal efficiency for Sr and Cs, respectively in soil. For comparison, widely used conventional washing agents such as 0.075 M EDTA, 0.01 M citric acid, 0.01 M oxalic acid, and 0.05 M phosphoric acid were tested, and they showed 25 to 30% of Sr and Cs removal efficiency. Tessier sequential extraction was employed to identify the changes in chemical forms of Sr and Cs during the washing. In contrast to the conventional washing agents, Ca-based and K-based solutions were able to release relatively strongly bound forms of Sr and Cs such as Fe/Mn-oxide and organic matter bound forms, suggesting the involvement of direct substitution mechanism, probably due to the physicochemical similarities between Sr-Ca and Cs-K.

Objective: To evaluate the association between the severity of endometriosis and the preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and serum level of cancer antigen 125 (CA 125). Methods: Data were obtained from the medical records of 419 patients who underwent laparoscopic conservative surgery for ovarian endometrioma between April 2005 and March 2013. Each patient's preoperative complete blood count was recorded and the endometriosis score was assessed. Results: The endometriosis score was not associated with either the NLR or the serum level of CA 125. The endometriosis score was negatively related to preoperative hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration. The only positive association was between NLR and the patients' age. NLR and preoperative serum anti-M$\ddot{u}$llerian hormone level were found to be negatively related. Conclusion: The severity of endometriosis was not associated with the serum level of CA 125 or the NLR. The presence of a negative correlation between the severity of endometriosis and red blood cell dynamics needs further investigation.

Calcium silicate hydrate(C-S-H) is the principal binding phase that controls the strength and thermal stability of concrete. However, the effects of high temperature on the lattice structure and interatomic structure of C-S-H remains poorly understood due to its nanocrystallinity. This study aims to elucidate the change in interatomic distance of synthetic C-S-H with different Ca/Si molar ratios after exposure to high temperature via high energy X-ray scattering experiment which is a powerful analytical tool for amorphous materials.
Raman spectroscopy is effective to investigate functional groups via molecular vibration. The technique offers the structural information of compounds including subtle changes in the chemical composition of local atomic coordination without critical damage. Thus, the effect of carbonation on the hydration characteristics of Portland cement under pre-curing conditions for carbonation was investigated via Raman spectroscopy in the present study. Gaseous CO2 was injected within 60 seconds, and the reaction time was varied from 0 minute to 90 minutes. The test results indicated that the Ca/Si ratio of C-S-H reduced immediately after mixing and then the C-S-H with a relatively high Ca/Si ratio coexisted as the reaction time increased. The calcium carbonates formed in the present study included calcite and amorphous calcium carbonates. The test results via Raman spectroscopy provide valuable information about the carbonation characteristics of OPC under pre-curing conditions for carbonation.
It has been studied that SO$_2$ removal efficiency of anthracite-bituminous coal blend combustion in a fludized bed coal combustor. The objectives of this study were to investigate SO$_2$ removal characteristics of coal blend combustion with Ca/S, anthracite fraction, bed temperature, and limestone size. The experimental results were presented as follows First, the effect of the desulfurization by the dia size of limestone was great and SO$_2$ removal efficiency was highest in limestone dia 631 $\mu$m. Second, as air velocity increased, the desulfurization rate decreased a little. But the difference of the desulfurization rate according to air velocity was not too large. As the height of fluidized bed combustor increased regardless of air velocity, SO$_2$ concentration tends to increase largely. Third, as Ca/S mole ratio incresed, SO$_2$ desulfurization rate incresed rapidly up to Ca/S mole ratio 3 while the desulfurization rates did not increse too largely in the range of more than the level. Forth, the bed temperature had a great effect on the desulfurization rate and the desulfurization rate tended to increase slightly as anthracite fraction increased.
The hydration of flyash-$Ca(OH)_2-CaSO_4$.$2H_2O$ system was stuedied with varing mixing ratio of flyahs $Ca(OH)_2$ and caSO4.2H2O The samples were steam-cured for 1-7 days at 9$0^{\circ}C$. The optimum mixing composition was flyash : Ca (OH)2=65:35 with 15% $CaSO_4$.42H_2O$ added which produced the hardened material having the best compressive strength (300kg/$cm^2$) Also the low specific gravity(1, 2) of the hardened paste suggests the possibility that it can be used as a light-weight building material. The added $CaSO_4$.42H_2O$ constituted calcium-sulfo-aluminate hydrates which activates the formation of C-S-H hy-drates. Both hydrates developed the strength of hardened paste. The amount of calcium-sulfo-aluminate hydrates was increased when the $CaSO_4$.42H_2O$ was added over 15% however the increased amount did not help the development of strength because of the individually grown calcium-sulfo-aluminate hydrates.
This study examined effects of calcium supplemented milk on bone loss in ovariectomized rats. Twenty four Sprague-Dawley female rats, 7 weeks-old, were divided into 4 groups, ovariectomized and fed diets containing: 1) control, no Ca supplemented milk, 2) ovx 1, Ca carbonate supplemented milk, 3) ovx 2, ionized Ca supplemented milk, and 4) ovx 3, nano Ca supplemented milk. All rats were fed 1 ml of milk containing 20 mg supplemented Ca. After 18 wk feeding, body weight gain and food efficiency ratio were significantly different between ovx 1 and ovx 3. Serum concentration of calcium and phosphorus were not different among groups. However, there was a significant difference in calcium content of dry femoral weight in ovx 3 compared with the control and ovx 2. In addition, femoral bone mineral density ($g/cm^2$) was significantly greater in ovx 3 than in other groups (p<0.05). The ovx 3 group showed the highest stiffness (N/mm), maximum energy (N) in femur and trabecular bone area (%). The present study indicated that nano Ca supplementation in milk may be an effective way to enhance bone calcium metabolism for ovariectomized rats.
The reduction behavior of $TiO_{2}$ in Al and Al/CaSi containing self-reducing $TiO_{2}$ briquettes(SRTB) was investigated. The maximum yield of Ti was expected with the slag composition of 45-55%CaO in the $CaO-Al_{2}O_{3}$ system. When $CaCO_{3}$ was used as a flux, the oxidation loss of reducing agent by $CO_{2}$ should be compensated, and therefore it leads to excessive requirement of the reducing agent. By using Al and CaSi mixture as a reducing agent of $TiO_{2}$, the reaction products both oxide and metal could be liquefied, and separated effectively with each other. As a result, the yield of Ti increases remarkably. The optimum mixing ratio of CaSi to Al is 78%CaSi-22%Al.
