Dependence of microwave dielectric properties on the crystallization behaviors of $CaMgSi_2O_6$ (diopside) glass-ceramics was investigated with different heat treatment methods (one and/or two-step). The crystallization behaviors of the specimens, crystallite size and degree of crystallization, were evaluated by differential thermal analysis (DTA), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis by combined Rietveld and reference intensity ratio (RIR) methods. With an increase in heattreatment temperature, the dielectric constant (K) and the quality factor (Qf) increased due to the increase of the crystallite size and degree of crystallization. The specimens heat-treated by the two-step method had a higher degree of crystallization than the specimens heat-treated by the one-step method, which induced improvement in the quality factor (Qf) of the specimens.
Cathodic protection is one of the successful ways to prevent corrosion of steel structures in marine environments. The unique feature of cathodic protection in seawater is the formation of calcareous deposits on cathodic metal surface. The formation principles of calcareous deposit seawater had been known for a long time. That is, cathodic reduction reactions associated with cathodic protection in seawater generate $OH^-$ at the metal surface in accordance with the formular ; 1/2 $O_2$ + $H_2O$ + $2e^-$$2OH^-$ and $2H_2O$ + $2e^-$${\rightarrow}$$H_2$ + $2OH^-$. These reactions increase the pH at the metal / seawater interface. The high pH causes precipitation of $Mg(OH)_2$ and $CaCO_3$ in accordance with the formular ; $Mg^{2+}$ + $2(OH)^-$${\rightarrow}$$Mg(OH)_2$ and $Ca^{2+}$ + $HCO_3^-$ + $OH^-$${\rightarrow}$$H_2O$ + $CaCO_3$. These are typically the main compounds in calcareous deposits. It obviously has several advantages compared to the conventional coatings, since the environment-friendly calcareous deposit coating is formed by the elements($Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$) naturally present in seawater. In this study, environmental friendly calcareous deposit films were prepared on steel plates by electro plating technic in natural seawater. The influence of current density on composition ratio, structure and morphology of the coated films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy formation process of calcareous deposits films in natural seawater. And we confirmed the properties of all the films can be improved greatly by controlling the material structure and morphology with effective use of the electroplating method in natural seawater.
Calcareous deposits are the consequence of pH increase of the electrolyte adjacent to metal surface affected by cathodic current in seawater. It obviously has several advantages over conventional coatings, since the calcareous deposit coating is formed from coating (Mg$^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$) naturally existing in seawater. In consideration of this respect, environment friendly calcareous deposit films were formed by an electro deposition technique on steel substrates submerged in 48$^{\circ}C$ natural seawater. And the influence of current density, coating time and attachment of steel mesh on composition ratio, structure and morphology of the electrodeposited films were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy(EDS) and X-Ray Diffractor(XRD), respectively. Accordingly, this study provides a better understanding of the composition between the growth of $Mg(OH)_2$ and $CaCO_3$ during the formation of electro deposit films on steel substrate under cathodically electrodeposition in $48^{\circ}C$ natural seawater. The Mg compositions, in general, are getting decreased regardless of current density but Ca compositions are getting increased as electrodeposition time runs. That is, $Mg(OH)_2$ compounds of brucite structure shaped as flat type is formed at the initial stage of electrodeposition, but CaCO$_3$ compounds of aragonite structure shaped as flower type is formed in large scale. Besides, $Mg(OH)_2$ compounds were much formed at 5 A/$\m^2$ environment condition compared to the 3 A/$\m^2$ and 4 A/$\m^2$ environment conditions. This is because that OH- which was comparatively largely generated at the metal surface is preferably combined with $Mg^{2+}$TEX>.
Small size privately owned wastewater treatment plants have been difficult to treat their wasted sludge and maintain steady effluent quality compared with publicly owned wastewater treatment plants. Therefore, this study has focused on treatment efficiency enhancement, specially nitrogen removal efficiency by recycling dewatering filtrate as an alkalinity additive from filter press using $CaCO_3$. As the result, it was found that the optimal mixing ratio between the excess sludge and $CaCO_3$ was 1:2. The major operation parameters such as specific substrate utilization rate, specific nitrification rate, and specific denitrification rate were also improved 64% ($0.048-0.079mg\;BOD_5/mg\;MLVSS{\cdot}day$), 35% ($0.020-0.027mg\;NH_3-N/mg\;MLVSS{\cdot}day$) and 68% ($0.051-0.086mg\;NO_3{^-}-N/mg\;MLVSS{\cdot}day$), respectively, after the adoption of new methods. Therefore, both the problem of sludge treatment at small scale plants and the need for efficiency improvement could be solved.
Calcium carbonate($CaCO_3$) films were formed by an eco-friendly electro-chemical technique on steel substrates in synthesized distilled water solutions containing $NaHCO_3$, $CaCl_2$ and $MgCl_2$ with different ratio respectively. It was investigated to confirm the effect of $Mg^{2+}$ concentration by Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM), Energy Dispersive x-ray Spectroscopy(EDS) and X-Ray Diffraction(XRD) respectively. From an experimental result, only calcite crystals were found in solution containing no $Mg^{2+}$. By increasing concentration of $Mg^{2+}$, deposition rate decreased and crystal structure was transformed form calcite to aragonite. In case of including $MgCl_2$ 300mM in synthesized solutions containing $NaHCO_3$, $CaCl_2$ 60mM, it was showed over the 90% of aragonite contents which have quite high deposition rate of aragonite. Also, it was confirmed that $Mg^{2+}$ acted as inhibitor on the films which made transforming from calcite to aragonite.

The purpose of this study was to identify food sources for major minerals such as calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), sodium (Na) and potassium (K), and to evaluate the relationship between dietary intake of these minerals and serum lipids in healthy Korean adults. A total of 132 healthy men and women completed a physical examination and dietary record and provided blood samples for lipid profile analysis. Results showed the following daily average mineral intakes: 373.4 mg of calcium, 806.0 mg of phosphorous, 3685.8 mg of sodium, and 1938.3 mg of potassium. The calcium-to-phosphorus and sodium-to-potassium ratio was about 0.5 and 2.0, respectively. The primary sources for each mineral were: vegetables (24.9%) and fishes (19.0%) for calcium, grains (31.4%) for phosphorus, seasonings (41.6%) and vegetables (27.0%) for sodium, and vegetables (30.6%) and grains (18.5%) for potassium. The correlation analysis, which has been adjusted for age, gender, total food consumption, and energy intake, showed significantly positive correlations between Ca/P and serum HDL cholesterol levels, between Na intake and the level of serum total cholesterol, and between Na/K and the level of serum cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. Our data indicates that the level of mineral consumption partially contributes to serum lipid profiles and that a diet consisting of a low Ca/P ratio and a high Na/K ratio may have negative impacts on lipid metabolism.
