Na and Ca effects on contracture were studied in order to estimate Na/Ca exchange ratio in the isolated atrial muscle of the rabbit. All experiments were performed in tris-buffered Tyrode solution which was being aerated with 100% $O_2\;and\;kept\;at\;37^{circ}C$. To load intracellular $Na^+,\;10{-6}M$ ouabain or K-free solution were used. Contractures were induced by brier exposure of atrial muscle to Tyrode solution containing various concentrations of Ca or of Na. The results obtained were as follows: 1 ) Increasing the extracellular Ca concentration, the amplitude of contracture also increased and was maximum at 8 mM Ca-Tyrode solution. 2) The relationship between extracellular Ca concentrations and relative amplitude of the contractures showed hyperbolic pattern. By using Hill plot, the line has the slope of 1 12 which means the number of Ca binding sites of the carrier in the cell membrane. 3) The amplitude of the contracture was maximum in 0 mM Na-Tyrode solution and decreased in dose dependent manner when the Na concentration increased. 4) When the relationship between extracellular Na concentrations and the amplitude of contractures was expressed as dose-response curve, the curve showed sigmoid pattern. The line with the slope of 2.82 was obtained by using Hill plot. 5) From above all the results, it is suggested that exchange ratio of Na and Ca via Na/ca exchange system in the atrial muscle of rabbit could be 3:1 approximately.

The calcium to phosphate ratio (Ca/P) in biphasic calcium phosphates powders using X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) was characterized. The BCP powders with various stoichiometric Ca/P molar ratio were synthesized with coprecipitation process and calcination. Compositions of the powders with Ca/P molar ratio between 1.5 and 1.67 were subjected to starting Ca/P molar ratio, pH = 10, and thermal treatment up to $900^{\circ}C$. The structural, morphological and chemical characterizations for BCP powders with stoichiometric Ca/P ratio were carried out with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) and a phase quantification was investigated by XRD. The solubility of HAp, $\beta$-TCP, and BCP powders was tested in the phosphate buffer solution (PBS) at $36.5^{\circ}C$ and pH = 7.4.
The effect of Ca/P mole ratio (Ca/P=1.60, 1.67, 1.75) in the initial solution on the mechanical properties of alumina added hydroxyapatite was investigated. Hydroxyapatite was synthesized by precipitation method using Ca(NO3)2$.$4H2O and (NH4)2HPO4 as starting materials and 5 wt% of ${\alpha}$-Al2O3 was added to precipitation solution. The powder was calcined at 800$^{\circ}C$ and sintered at 1,150∼1,400$^{\circ}C$ under water vapor atmosphere. With the increasing of Ca/P mole ration in the initial solution, the amount of tricalcium phosphate formed from the decomposition of hydroxyapatite reduced and the sinterability and mechanical properties were increased. The bending strength and Vickers hardness of the specimen sintered at 1,300$^{\circ}C$ with the Ca/P mole ratio of 1.75 in the initial solution were 230 MPa and 650 kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$, respectively. The improvement of mechanical properties was attributed to not only the effect of Ca/P mole ratio but also the strengthening of sintered body by Al substitution for P ions.
This study shows an air-purification test by the UV lamp on which TiO2 catalyst is deposited with glass fiber in the reactor chamber. This test was based on the fundamental data of air-purifier as assessing a removing ability on various contaminants such as CH3COOH, NH3, NO and SO2 as variation of the TiO2 coating, the wave of UV lamp, and the additive CaO. As a result, the highest decomposing removal ratio was shown when 5-times coated glass fiber was used. It can be due to the recombination reaction of electrons and electron-hole in the loaded CaO. Thus, the decomposing removal ratio increased as the recombination ratio decreased. In addition, it was confirmed that the decomposing removal ratio lowered when CaO was considerably deposited because it hided the lamp of OH-1 radical.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to measure and evaluate changes of visual responses in viewing a 2D and 3D (three-dimensional) image. Methods: The subjects were 44 college students aged 19 to 25 years with normal binocular vision. The visual responses measured were CA/C (convergence accommodation/convergence) ratio, convergence-induced PD(interpupillary distance), accommodative responses, perceived distance in viewing a 3D image. Results: Convergence and accommodative responses in viewing the 3D image were significantly larger (p<0.05) than in 2D. A moderate positive correction was found between CA/C ratio and accommodative response (r = 0.477, p = 0.001). It was indicated that smaller PD had larger depth perception. Convergence in viewing the 3D image was significantly larger (p<0.05) than that at cognitive distance. Conclusions: The visual fatigue may be more intense in larger CA/C ratio and smaller PD when viewing 3D images.
A $2{\times}2$ factorial experiment was conducted to study the effect of dietary calcium and non-phytate phosphorus (nPP) imbalance on calbindin and NaPi-IIb mRNA levels in the small intestine and tibia parameters of broiler chicks. One hundred and forty four 1-d-old Arbor Acres male broiler chicks were divided into four treatments consisted of six replicates with six chicks each. The two dietary calcium levels were 1.10% and 0.60%, and two dietary nPP levels were 0.50% and 0.27%. Results showed that a high Ca/nPP ratio diet (4.07:1) significantly depressed feed intake and weight gain of broilers (p<0.05), but a lower Ca:nPP ratio (1.2:1) had no influence (p>0.05). Low-Ca with low-P diet resulted in low tibia minerals and tibia breaking strength of broilers, and all the tibia parameters were further decreased when the dietary ratio of Ca to P was relative higher. Low dietary Ca or P up-regulated the calbindin and NaPi-IIb mRNA expression levels. Low Ca with normal P diet up-regulated duodenal calbindin mRNA expression level to the greatest extent. Low P with a normal Ca diet significantly enhanced NaPi-IIb mRNA expression level to the highest extent. These results suggest that the calbindin and NaPi-IIb mRNA expression were enhanced by the imbalance between dietary Ca and nPP, and their expression were not only influenced by Ca or nPP level, but also the ratio of Ca:nPP.

The effects of mole ratio and Ti-ion on the dielectric properties and microstructure of modified $CaZrO_3$ composition such as $(Ca_{0.7}Sr_{0.3})_m(Ti_yZr_{1-y})O_3$ were investigated. Ti ions substituted on Zr-sites in these modified $CaZrO_3$ composition strongly affect the sintering density and microstructure of the fired ceramic body. With increasing the amount of Ti substituted on Zr-sites, the sintered density rapidly increased and the dense microstructures were obtained for the compositions having mole ratio of 1.01, whereas the sintered density and microstructures are nearly constant with the content of Ti-ion for the compositions having mole ratio of 0.99. With increasing the content of Ti ion, the curve of TCC (temperature coefficient of capacitance) as a function of temperature rotated clockwise and satisfied the COG characteristics for both of compositions with mole ratio of 0.99 and 1.01. The content of Ti ion seems to be more effective than mole with respect to the controlling of firing and TCC.
The effects of soil acidification on the seedling growth and nutrition of Pinus densiflora and Quercus acutissima were investigated. The relationship between the seedling growth and molar (Ca+Mg+K)/Al ratio of in soil solution was examined. The results suggested that growth inhibition of seedling Pinus densiflora and Quercus acutissima was due to the low pH of soil solution, which was followed by leach of Al into soil solution, and decrease of essential elements, such as Ca in aerial pant of the seeding caused by the increase of Al concentration in subterranean pant of the seedlings. The level of growth inhibition was determined not only by Al concentration, but also by the balance of inorganic elements, Al, Ca, Mg and K. The growths of two species in total dry weight were clearly inhibited when molar (Ca+Mg+K)/Al ratio of the soil was lower than 6.0. The growth in dry weight, in the condition of the molar ratio was 0.8, was decreased 60% or 50% for the seedling of Pinus densiflora or Quercus acutissima respectively. It was concluded that the molar (Ca+Mg+K)/ Al ratio could be an important index for evaluation of the effects of soil acidification, due to acid deposition such as acid rain, on growth of trees and nutrition. And it might be a more useful indicator for evaluation of critical load of acid deposition on forest ecosystems.

To investigate the relationship between the translocation and distribution the monovalent K and Na and the divalent Sr and Ca, the natrophile and calcitrophic plant sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) was used. Strontium uptake and distribution are concentration and growth stage dependent. The highest Ca content occurred in the treatment of 4 : 1 mM ratio of Ca to Sr, while the highest Sr content in old leaves in the presence of 1 mM Ca and 4 mM Sr. The addition of low concentration of Sr stimulates Ca-uptake. Reversely. Sr-uptake is highest in the presence of 1 mM Ca. This result may be an antagonistic effect between Ca and Sr. The ratios of Mg to Ca and Sr are satisfactorily presented by the regression analysis. The sum of Sr and Ca contents are most significant linear to the ratio of Mg to one, showing a negative correlation. This result implies that the absorption of Mg and Ca or Sr is antagonistic. In the presence of only 5 mM Sr, K and Na-uptakes increases, while Sr in the presence of Ca does not affect the change in the K and Na assimilation and their ratios. The ratios of K to Na is also not changed. A little addition of Sr could more effectively retain the chlorophyll loss while only in the presence of Sr, the chlorophyll levels are considerably reduced.
