등속조인트용 외륜의 다단 냉간 단조공정에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Multi-Stage Cold Forging for an Outer Race of a CV Joint)

  • This study deals with a series of experimental investigations on multi-stage cold forging of an outer race used for a constant velocity (CV) joint with six inner ball grooves. The multi-stage cold forging, which consists of forward extrusion, upsetting, backward extrusion, and combined sizing-necking including ironing, was used to produce a prototype of the outer race. The cold forging tools such as forging punches and dies required in this multi-stage cold forging were also designed and fabricated. For the combined sizing-necking, especially, the longitudinally six-segmentallized punches were developed to easily eject from the necked inner groove of the outer race with consideration of the operating mechanism. Spheroidized SCr420H billet was used in the experimental study. To verify the suitability of the proposed process, the obtained parts were obtained from each forging operation, and the geometries were compared with the target dimensions. It was confirmed that the outer race with six inner ball grooves was well forged by adopting the proposed multi-stage cold forging, and the dimensional accuracy of the forged outer race matched well with the requirements.

  • The outer race of a constant velocity (CV) joint having six inner ball grooves has traditionally been manufactured by multi-stage warm forging, which includes forward extrusion, upsetting, backward extrusions, necking, ironing and sizing, and machining. In the current study, a multi-stage cold forging process is examined and an assessment for replacing and modifying the conventional multi-stage warm forging is made. The proposed procedure is simplified to the backward extrusion of the conventional process, and the sizing and necking are combined into a single sizing-necking step. Thus, the forging surface of the six ball grooves can be obtained without additional machining. To verify the suitability of the proposed process, a 3-dimensional numerical simulation on each operation was performed. The forging loads were also predicted. In addition, a structural integrity evaluation for the tools was carried out. Based on the results, it is shown that the dimensional requirements of the outer race can be well met.

  • During the hot forging process, the most common cause of tool failure is wear. Tool wear results in the gradual loss of part tolerances, after which eventually the tool must be replaced or repaired. In order to maximize the lifetimes of forging tools, it is important to investigate the wear mechanisms of these tools. In this study, the hot forging of the outer race of an automotive constant-velocity joint was analyzed by a finite element method to investigate the wear distribution, especially the amount and location of the maximum expected wear damage, using Archard's wear model, which was modified considering the forging temperature. Forging analyses were carried out after modifying blocker forging tools based on established versions. The modified blocker tools resulted in an increase in the tool life up to 31% with a finisher punch.

  • We are going to propose equations for stable static and endurance strength design of driveshafts. It is very important to decide the contact normal stress of internal components of CV joints. We can estimate the strength, torque capacity, endurance life of CV joints from contact normal stress by presented equation in this paper. Besides it can be shown the equation for shaft design.

Comparison of Biomechanical Characteristics of Rowing Performance between Elite and Non-Elite Scull Rowers: A Pilot Study

  • Objective: This study aimed to examine the characteristics of joint kinematics and synchronicity of rowing motion between elite and non-elite rowers. Methods: Two elite and two non-elite rowers performed rowing strokes (3 trials, 20 strokes in each trial) at three different stroke rates (20, 30, 40 stroke/min) on two stationary rowing ergometers. The rowing motions of the rowers were captured using a 3-dimensional motion analysis system (8-infrared camera VICON system, Oxford, UK). The range of motion (RoM) of the knee, hip, and elbow joints on the sagittal plane, the lead time ($T_{Lead}$) and the drive time $T_{Drive}$) for each joint, and the elapsed time for the knee joint to maintain a fully extended position ($T_{Knee}$) during the stroke were analyzed and compared between elite and non-elite rowers. Synchronicity of the rowing motion within and between groups was examined using coefficients of variation (CV) of the $T_{Drive}$ for each joint. Results: Regardless of the stroke rate, the RoM of all joints were greater for the elite than for non-elite rowers, except for the RoMs of the knee joint at 30 stroke/min and the elbow joint at 40 stroke/min (p < .05). Although the $T_{Lead}$ at all stroke rates were the same between the groups, the $T_{Drive}$ for each joint was shorter for the elite than for the non-elite rowers. During the drive phase, elite rowers kept the fully extended knee joint angle longer than the non-elite rowers (p < .05). The CV values of the TDrive within each group were smaller for the elite compared with non-elite rowers, except for the CV values of the hip at all stroke/min and elbow at 40 stroke/min. Conclusion: The elite, compared with non-elite, rowers seem to be able to perform more powerful and efficient rowing strokes with large RoM and a short $T_{Drive}$ with the same $T_{Lead}$.

  • Objectives : To investigate the progress, characteristics, and reasons of CV12 moxibustion that King Sukjong of Joseon Dynasty had experienced 31 years since 1684. Methods : This study mainly extracted the records and related records about CV12 moxibustion of King Sukjong and relevant records from Seungjeongwon Ilgi, and analyzed them. Aside from that, medical books wrote at that time and relevant records were additionally investigated. Results : King Sukjong cauterized CV12 or other CV12 related acupoints with moxa 21 years out of his 31 years from 1684 to 1714. The cautery period was usually between late January and mid February. He had 100 pieces of moxa for cautery. On the last day of his moxibustion, he cauterized ST36 with moxa. The moxibustion process consisted of the following steps: suggestion or requirement of moxibustion, decision of date and time, and moxa cautery. In 1684, the reason why King Sukjong cauterized CV12 with moxa was to treat his joint pain and nauseous symptoms. The effect can be found in Donguibogam, many other Korean medical books, and other general books at that time. In 1685, he began to cauterize CV12 with moxa to prevent diseases. Since then, most moxa cautery on CV12 had been performed in the same context. Conclusions : For 21 years, King Sukjong repeatedly cauterized CV12 with moxa. The moxa therapy was conducted to prevent diseases mostly. And King Sukjong had a lot of interest in the therapy. For the reasons, the therapy had repeatedly been performed so long.

  • Because CV Joint which is one of the component of automobile power train system communicates high power and performs power steering function, it requires high qualities such as high strength, high toughness and high fatigue resistance. This component undergoes a series of production processes such as forging, machining and heat treatment and required properties for this component depends on plastic deformation and heat treatment heavily. Therefore in this study, in order to these effects on mechanical properties due to plastic deformation and heat treatment we performed heat treatment following plastic deformation and then tensile test.

자동차 드라이브 샤프트와 액슬 시스템의 트라이볼로지적인 특성에 관한 고장사례 고찰 (Failure Examples Study for Tribological Characteristics of Drive Shaft and Axle System in Vehicles)

  • This study examined the tribological characteristics of the drive shaft and axle system in vehicles. The first drive shaft example contained end play for a CV joint that transferred part of the transmission power to the wheel. The joint part of the drive shaft was deformed because of reduced durability due to wear. Thus, vibrations caused the body to shake and become unbalanced when the drive shaft transferred the power. The second example was the cross-section of a shaft that connected the slip-connection of the propeller shaft on the input side to the yoke flange of the output side; the durability was reduced because of corrosion. End play caused by wear between the bearing and cross-section shaft appeared to cause shaking. In the third example, a grease leak reduced lubrication and thus caused damage to the hub bearing and inside the knuckle. The failure was produced by sticking. The fourth example had noise produced by the gear and gear transfer. This was due to the backlash of the pinion and few ring gears for the differential gear. Therefore, drive shaft and axle systems must be thoroughly checked and managed to minimize and reduce failure phenomena.

달리기 속도에 따른 인체 안정성의 생체역학적 분석: 리아프노프 지수와 변이계수 방법의 비교 분석 (Biomechanical Analysis of Human Stability According to Running Speed: A Comparative Analysis of Lyapunov Exponent and Coefficient of Variation Methods)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of increasing running speed on human stability by comparing the Lyapunov Exponent (LyE) and Coefficient of Variation (CV) methods, with the goal of identifying key variables and uncovering new insights. Method: Fourteen adult males (age: 24.7 ± 6.4 yrs, height: 176.9 ± 4.6 cm, weight: 74.7 ± 10.9 kg) participated in this study. Results: In the CV method, significant differences were observed in ankle (flexion-inversion/eversion; p < .05) and hip joint (internal-external rotation; p < .05) movements, while the center of mass (COM) variable in the coronal axis movements showed a significant difference at the p < .001 level. In the LyE method, statistical differences were observed at the p < .05 level in knee (flexion-extension), hip joint (internal-external rotation) movements, and COM across all three directions (sagittal, coronal, and transverse axis). Conclusion: Our results revealed that the stability of the human body is affected at faster running speeds. The movement of the COM and ankle joint were identified as the most critical factors influencing stability. This suggests that LyE, a nonlinear time series analysis, should be actively introduced to better understand human stabilization strategies.

경상누층군 퇴적암의 절리 특성 연구 (Joint Characteristics in Sedimentary Rocks of Gyeongsang Supergroup)

  • 경상분지 내 구미노두와 다사노두 지역에서 신동층군의 사암층을 대상으로 절리 연구가 집중적으로 이루어졌다. 사암-이암 시퀀스의 양 지역 노두에서 똑같이 두 조의 직교 절리가 사암층에 전형적으로 발달하고 있다. 여러 가지 절리 자료들을 양 지역의 동일한 두께의 층에서 비교하여보면 상당히 유사한데 이는 절리 조들이 동일한 응력장에서 신장 변형 작용으로 균질하게 생성되었음을 이야기 한다. 대부분의 절리들은 퇴적물이 매몰되어 고화되는 과정에서 수압단열작용에 의해 생성된 것으로 생각되며, 사암층의 층 경계에 수직이고 층 경계에 이르러 중지한다. 두 조의 직교하는 절리들은 단열 격자차단 양상으로 해석되는 상호 접경하는 관계로 볼 때 ${\sigma}_1$은 수직으로 고정된 상태에서 ${\sigma}_2$${\sigma}_3$의 빠른 교환에 의해 거의 동시에 생성된 것으로 판단된다. 사암층에서의 절리조들은 인접한 절리 간에 평행한 배향을 가지며 규칙적인 간격을 가지고 절리면은 평탄하다. 절리간격은 층 두께에 비례하고 간격분포는 대부분의 층에서 대수-정규분포 내지 정규 분포를 나타낸다. 그러나 다중층에서는 간격의 분포범위가 크고 불규칙한 형태를 보여준다. 연구지역에서 두 조의 절리들은 최빈값/평균값의 비가 1 내외로 포화상태를, 또 다른 척도인 변동계수(Cv)도 1이하의 낮은 값으로 포화를 지시한다. 절리의 개구는 모든 사암충의 절리에서 균질하기보다는 절리의 길이가 증가함에 따라 증가하는 경향을 갖는다.
