  • This research describes that the cutting characteristics and tool wear behavior in the micro cutting of three kinds of wear resistant cemented carbides (WC-Co; V40, V50 and V60) using PCD (Poly Crystalline Diamond) and PCBN (Poly crystalline Cubic Boron Nitride) cutting tools by use of the SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) direct observation method. The purpose of this research is to present reasonable cutting conditions from the viewpoint of high efficient cutting refer to a precise finished surface and tool wear. Summary of the results is as follows: (1) The cutting forces tend to increase as the increase of the weight percentage of WC particles, and the thrust forces was larger than the principal forces in the cutting of WC-Co. These phenomena were different from the ordinary cutting such as cutting of steel or cast iron. (2) The cutting speed hardly influenced the thrust force, because of the frictional force between the cutting tool edge and small WC particles at low cutting speed region such as 2$\mu\textrm{m}$/s. It seemed that the thrust cutting force occurred by the contact between the flank face and work material near the cutting edge. (3) The wear mechanism for PCD tools is abrasion by hard WC particles of the work materials, which leads diamond grain to be detached from the bond. (4) From the SEM direct observation in cutting the WC-Co, it seems that WC particles are broken and come into contact with the tool edge directly. This causes tool wear, resulting in severe tool damage. (5) In the orthogonal micro cutting of WC-Co, the tool wear in the flank face was formed bigger than that in the rake face on orthogonal micro cutting. And the machining surface integrity on the side of the cutting tool with a negative rake angle was better than that with a positive one, as well as burr in the case of using the cutting tool with a negative rake angle was formed very little compared to the that with a positive one.

  • This paper proposed on the effective cutting conditions of cage motor rotor by turning. If you want to introduce automatic manufacturing system into the cutting process of cage motor rotor, the selections of effective cutting conditions are necessary. The cutting process of cage motor rotor requires the precision and the out of roundness of cage motor rotor. The surface roughness of cutting face. it is very important factor with effect on the magnetic flux density of cage motor rotor. The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of cutting condition. upon adapting this results, we will improve the production rate in the cutting process of cage motor rotor. As a result, the selection of cutting conditions are important factors to production rate. And these are chosen by the investigations of cutting characters and surface roughness. The experimental result, showed that the increase of cutting speed caused the decrease of cutting force and the high surface integrity. The increase of feed rate and increase of depth of cut caused the increase of cutting force and surface roughness. Thus, the effective cutting conditions of cage motor rotor by turing are cutting speed 291m/min, feed rate 0.10mm/rev, depth of cut 0.05mm.

  • This experiment was carried out to establish cutting propagation method of dendropanax morbifera $L_{EV}\$. at Wando in Chonnam, native area. The hardwood cutting and the greenwood cutting were able to be used as propagation method, but callus formation and rooting ratio in the greenwood cutting were higher than in hardwood cutting. The optimum cutting time was February to middle of March in hardwood cutting and July to August in greenwood cutting. The earthen-ball cutting method was better than normal cutting method in callus formation and rooting ratio. The rooting in different bed soils was the best at sand-loam soil. The application of IBA 100ppm promoted rooting.

  • The object of this experiment was to suggest the suitable cutting frequency and cutting height for orchardgrass (0G)-red clover(RC) mixtures under the intensive system of short-term pasture utilization. The fields trials were conducted over 3-year period(1991-1993) to evaluate dry matter yield, botanical composition, chemical composition and CP, DDM yield on the cutting frequency (30, 40 and 50 days) and cutting height(5, 7 and 9cm) With decreasing the cutting frequency, the DM yield of OG in the OG-RC mixtures was significantly increased(P

  • Undercutting using an actuated disc cutter (ADC) involves more complex cutting mechanism than traditional rock cutting does, requiring the application of various new cutting parameters, such as eccentricity, cutter inclination angle, and axis rotational speed. This study presents cutting-edge laboratory-scale testing equipment that allows performing ADC tests. ADC tests were carried out on a concrete block with a specified strength of 20 MPa, using a variety of cutting settings that included penetration depth (p), eccentricity (e), and linear velocity (v). ADC, unlike pick and disc cutting, has a non-linear cutting path with a dynamic cutting direction, requiring the development of a new method for predicting cutting force and specific energy. The influence of cutting parameters to the cutter forces were discussed. The ratio of eccentricity to the penetration depth (e/p) was proposed to evaluate the optimal cutting condition. Specific energy varies with e/p ratio, and exhibits optimum values in particular cases. In general, actuated undercutting may potentially give a more efficient cutting than conventional pick and disc cutting by demonstrating reasonably lower specific energy in a comparable cutting environment.

  • In modern industry, the machining process is very important for manufacturing various products. More than 80% of machining processes apply rough cutting. The target of this study is to establish the optimal condition of rough cutting using trochoidal motion for improving productivity. For research, the range of cutting conditions is defined by trochoidal motion. The cutting time and tolerance are measured and evaluated according to the cutting conditions of machining. Experimental data are utilized for comparing trochoidal motion and contouring. It is found that the cutting time of trochoidal motion is two times less than that of contouring with optimal cutting conditions. To conclude, trochoidal motion for rough cutting under appropriate cutting conditions improves productivity and shortens processing time significantly.

  • Abrasive waterjet (AWJ) can provide a more effective means for precision of difficult -to-machining materials such as ceramics and titanium alloys. The present study is focused on the surface roughness of abrasive waterjet cut surfaces. This paper investigated theoretical and experimental surface characteristics associated with abrasive waterjet cutting of titanium alloy Gr2. It is shown that the proper variations of several cutting parameters such as waterjet cutting pressure, cutting speed and cutting depth improve the roughness and characteristics on specimen surfaces produced by AWJ cutting. From the experimental results by AWJ cutting of titanium alloy Gr2, the optimal cutting conditions to improve the surface roughness and precision were proposed and discussed.

  • The cutting tests of wood patterns are carried out using CNC milling machine. The cutting forces are monitored to analyse the cutting process. The surface characteristics of machined surface are investigated at various cutting conditions such as cutting speed, feed speed, cutting direction of wood pattern and wood material. In the CNC end-milling, the surface roughness increases as feed speed increases and decreases as cutting speed increases. However, the cutting force and surface roughness are different along the cutting direction and material of wood pattern.

  • The cutting tests of high tensile steel plate(AH36) were carried out using CNC plasma arc cutting machine. Both top and bottom width of kerf and the surface roughness(Ra, Rmax) of cut surface are measured under various cutting conditions such as cutting speed, steel plate thickness, etc. In the CNC plasma arc cutting, the surface roughness decreases as cutting speed increases. The hardness is high up to 4mm depth from the cutting surface. In the cutting speed 1300~2100mm/min, the ratio of proper kerf width(Wt/Wb) is around 2.6. Through the series the series of experiments, the satisfactory cutting conditions of high tensile steel plate were found.

  • We developed low resistance drum that is used in sawdust machine in this research. The existent drum have two dimensional cutting form(orthogonal cutting) when see cutting pattern of saw cutter and wood, cutting resistance is big and cutting power is cost much, and also, vibration happens extremely. To improve this shortcoming, we developed helical type low cutting resistance drum for three dimensional cutting possible, decreased vibration and cutting resistance of sawdust machine, and improve productivity and sawdust ventilation. Also, a developed drum is mounting in sawdust machine, it is sold by product.
