Activated carbons prepared from mixtures of coal tar pitch and petroleum pitch and their electrochemical performance as electrode materials for electric double-layer capacitor

  • Activated carbons (ACs) were prepared by activation of coal tar pitch (CTP) in the range of $700^{\circ}C-1000^{\circ}C$ for 1-4 h using potassium hydroxide (KOH) powder as the activation agent. The optimal activation conditions were determined to be a CTP/KOH ratio of 1:4, activation temperature of $900^{\circ}C$, and activation time of 3 h. The obtained ACs showed increased pore size distribution in the range of 1 to 2 nm and the highest specific capacitance of 122 F/g in a two-electrode system with an organic electrolyte, as measured by a charge-discharge method in the voltage range of 0-2.7 V. In order to improve the performance of the electric double-layer capacitor electrode, various mixtures of CTP and petroleum pitch (PP) were activated at the optimal activation conditions previously determined for CTP. Although the specific capacitance of AC electrodes prepared from CTP only and the mixtures of CTP and PP was not significantly different at a current density of 1 A/g, the AC electrodes from CTP and PP mixtures showed outstanding specific capacitance at higher current rates. In particular, CTP-PP61 (6:1 mixture) had the highest specific capacitance of 132 F/g, and the specific capacitance remained above 90% at a high current density of 3 A/g. It was found that the high specific capacitance could be attributed to the increased micro-pore volume of ACs with pore sizes from 1 to 2 nm, and the high power density could be attributed to the increased meso-pore volume.

  • 1999년부터 국내에 도입되기 시작한 CTP(Computer to Plate) 장비는 2003년 말 현재 총 105대가 가동중인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 인쇄의 고품질화, 시간절약, 인건비절약 등의 많은 장점으로 인해 선진 외국의 경우에는 일반화되고 있지만, 아직 국내는 도입실적이 그리 높다고는 할 수 없다. 그러나 매년 증가하는 추세이며, 관심이 높아 가까운 장래에 인쇄 토털서비스를 지향하는 업체는 도입이 불가피할 것으로 보인다. 이에 본지에서는 국내 도입실적을 바탕으로 CTP에 관한 최신 자료를 소개한다.

  • 지난해 말까지 전국에 보급된 CTP 장비는 총 105대. 사용자들은 얼마나 만족하고 있는지, 그리고 개선점은 무엇인지에 대해 창간 2주년 특집으로 설문조사를 실시했다. 설문조사 방식은 전화와 팩스, 그리고 직접 방문을 통해 실시했으며, 대상은 지난해 말까지 CTP 장비를 도입한 업체를 기준으로 했다. 이 중에서 국가기관에 보급된 8대와 신문사 및 기타 업체에 보급된 5대는 이번 설문조사에서 제외되고 85개 업체(회수80개 업체) 92대에 대해 설문조사를 실시했다.

  • The key points of the CTP board is as follows: Film, brightness, plate exposure is eliminated, the reduction of personal expenses, and the reduction of time consumption. But above all, the accurate reappearance of the highlighting and shadow portion as well as self modification of the dust edge portion stands out as the most impressive improvements. In this paper, using a digital test from 4.0 and a Thermal CTP color printing control, the two parts of the Thermal CTP utilized a 1%-99% dot reappearance. Also, using an opposite line target, the results of the CTP plates and printing were compared. Finally, research was made on the printing quality on the slur development of the plate and the result when there was a lack of weave connection.

  • Computer to plate technology(CTP) have become fully commercial. The current wide range of computer to plate system and plate makes many potential customers insecure. This process which began around 1995 has now been successfully completed, so that a wide variety of high performance systems is available. The computer to plate method of producing printing plates eliminates films from the production process, thus reducing costs and shortening production times. To discover the optimization formulation of sensitized materials we were changed formulation of resin and violet solution in thermal sensitizers. Also we were analyzed the CTP plate's surface and the result of coating and development at each sample. we were analyzed the effects of development condition as temperature and speed, the plate wear of printing test in C, M, Y, Bk ink. This paper aims to find out suitable ways that we can develop a domestic CTP plate.

Significance of thalamic hyperperfusion patterns in computed tomography perfusion in patients with nonconvulsive status epilepticus: possible utility in predicting antiseizure medication resistance

  • Background: This study aimed to determine the characteristics of computed tomography perfusion (CTP) patterns and their utility in predicting antiseizure medication (ASM) resistance in patients with nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients diagnosed with NCSE at Inje University Haeundae Paik Hospital Epilepsy Center between March 2015 and March 2022. CTP patterns were analyzed for those patients. A hyperperfusion pattern (HPP) in CTP was defined as a region of both increased cerebral blood flow and cerebral blood volume that did not necessarily follow the vascular territories. The primary endpoint was the responses to ASMs according to CTP patterns. Results: Fourteen (74%) of the 19 included patients met the criteria for definite NCSE, with the remaining 26% showing nonepileptiform activities with fluctuating quasirhythmic delta activities at >0.5 Hz on electroencephalogram. Three of the four patients who had HPPs with thalamic involvement were refractory to ASMs, whereas all eight patients who had HPPs without thalamic involvement were responsive to ASMs (p = 0.018). Although HPPs themselves were not associated with ASM responses, HPPs with thalamic involvement were associated with resistance to ASMs. Conclusions: HPP with thalamic involvement in CTP might be associated with ASM resistance. Therefore, CTP may be useful for predicting ASM resistance in NCSE patients.

Immunomodulatory Activity of Crude Polysaccharide Separated from Cudrania tricuspidata Leaf (꾸지뽕(Cudrania tricuspidata) 잎으로부터 분리된 다당류 추출물의 면역 활성)

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the immunomodulatory activity of crude polysaccharide separated from Cudrania tricuspidata leaf. C. tricuspidata polysaccharide (CTP) was extracted by ethanol precipitation. Immunomodulation activity was tested in macrophage cells (RAW 264.7 and bone-marrow derived macrophage) and splenocytes. CTP treatment significantly increased cell proliferation up to $250{\mu}g/mL$ in both RAW 264.7 and bone-marrow derived macrophages. In this concentration range (below $250{\mu}g/mL$), nitric oxide and cytokine [tumor necrosis factor $(TNF)-{\alpha}$ and interleukin (IL)-6] production also significantly increased. Similarly, splenocyte proliferation dosedependently increased except for the $1,000{\mu}g/mL$ treated group. Regarding cytokine production activity in splenocytes, CTP treatment significantly increased production of Th 1 type cytokines [interferon $(IFN)-{\gamma}$] production but not Th 2 type cytokines (IL-4). Therefore, the results indicate that CTP may have a potential effect on immunomodulatory activity in various immune cells, and this is useful for development of immune enhancing adjuvant materials as a natural ingredient.

Beneficial effect of collagen hydrolysate containing collagen tripeptides on ultraviolet B-induced skin photoaging (콜라겐 트리펩타이드를 함유한 콜라겐 가수분해물의 피부 광노화 예방 효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate anti-photoaging effects of collagen hydrolysate containing collagen tripeptides (CTP) in both HaCaT cells and SKH-1 hairless mice. CTP treatment was nontoxic to HaCaT cells and improved expression of biomarkers associated with aging of skin, such as, collagen 1A, metalloproteinase (MMP)-1, and MMP-13 after subjecting mice to ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation. In animal studies, the depth and width of wrinkles in the skin of mice were determined upon subjecting them to UVB irradiation. However, positive effects on wrinkles on the skin of mice were seen following CTP supplementation. Collagen content and density of mouse skin were restored following CTP supplementation for 14 weeks after UVB irradiation. These results were based on the effects of CTP on protein levels of collagen 1A, MMP-1, and MMP-13. Therefore, CTP might have positive effects on the number, depth, and width of wrinkles caused by UVB irradiation in SKH-1 hairless mice.

Electrochemical Characteristics of Surface Modified CTP Anode by H3PO4 Treatment (인산 처리된 표면 개질 음극 석탄계 피치의 전기화학적 특성)

  • To enhance electrochemical performances of anode materials, the surface of coal tar pitch (CTP) was modified by incorporating heteroatoms through chemical treatment with phosphoric acid ($H_3PO_4$). The prepared anode materials with modified CTP was analyzed by XRD, FE-SEM and XPS. The electrochemical performances of modified CTP were investigated by constant current charge/discharge test, rate performance, cyclic voltammetry and impedance tests using the electrolyte of $LiPF_6$ dissolved in the mixed organic solvents (ethylene carbonate : dimethyl carbonate = 1 : 1 vol% + vinylene carbonate 3 wt%). The coin cell using modified CTP ($H_3PO_4/CTP$ = 3 : 100 in weight) has better initial capacity and initial efficiency (489 mAh/g, 82%) than those of other composition coin cells. Also, it was found that the capacity retention was 86% after 30 cycles and the rate capability was 87% at 2 C/0.1 C.

Developing and Exploring the Possibility of Virtual Reality Based Communication Training Program for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (지적장애 학생을 위한 가상현실 기반 의사소통 프로그램 개발 및 적용 가능성 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and to explore the possibility of the virtual reality based communication training program(VR-CTP) for students with intellectual disabilities. To do this, sentences and dialogue of program were extracted from the National Common Basic Curriculum of Special School and the contents design of program were developed based on the consultation by special education experts. To explore the possibility of applying the VR-CTP, a usability evaluation was conducted with 30 special school teachers and 44 students with intellectual disabilities. The results showed that the VR-CTP had a high level of usability as the special school teachers received 4.23 and the students with intellectual disabilities received 4.44 out of 5. But there is no difference of usability evaluation on the special teachers' school level and teaching experiences without arrangement of school. Also, there is no difference of usability evaluation on the students' IQ, school level, and arrangement of school. As a result of this study, we can draw a conclusion that there is a possibility of applying the VR-CTP to language education for students with intellectual disabilities.
