  • In this paper, A planar UWB antenna with notched WLAN band, 802.11a band (5.15 ~ 5.825GHz), by using slot and slit is designed by using CST Microwave Studio. The notched bandwidth can be controlled by the length and width of the slot and slit in the patch and ground plane and it's radiation characteristics are examined through the experiments. The bandwidth based on the -10dB return loss level can be covered the full UWB band (3.1 ~ 10.6GHz) with a notched WLAN band (5.147 ~ 5.83GHz). Also, the experimental radiation pattern is almost omnidirectional in the H-plane.

  • This letter describes a dual-band compact monopole antenna with two branches for Wi-Fi applications. The proposed antenna is based on a planar monopole design, and composed of two branches of radiating patches for dual-band operation. The ground size of the antenna matches the ground size of a typical hand-held cellular phone for improved compatibility with mobile phone printed circuit boards. The antenna is designed using a simulator and fabricated with optimized parameters. The fabricated antenna is measured at the lower and higher operating frequencies, and the return loss coefficient, gain, and radiation patterns are determined.

  • The ASTM T92 steel was corroded at $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ at 1 atm of $N_2/3.1%H_2O/2.42%H_2S-mixed$ gas. The formed scales were thick and fragile. They consisted primarily of the outer FeS scale and the inner (FeS, $FeCr_2S_4$)-mixed scale containing a small amount of the $Cr_2O_3$ scale. This indicated that corrosion occurred mainly via sulfidation rather than oxidation due to the $H_2S$ gas. Since FeS was present throughout the whole scale, T92 steel was non-protective, displaying high corrosion rates.

  • A number of components installed in the secondary system of nuclear power plants are exposed to aging mechanisms such as FAC (Flow-Accelerated Corrosion), Cavitation, Flashing, and LDIE (Liquid Droplet Impingement Erosion). Those aging mechanisms can lead to thinning of the components. In April 2013, one (1) inch small bore piping branched from the main steam line experienced leakage resulting from wall thinning in a 1,000 MWe Korean PWR nuclear power plant. During the normal operation, extracted steam from the main steam line goes to condenser through the small bore piping. The leak occurred in the downstream of an orifice. A control valve with vertical flow path was placed on in front of the orifice. This paper deals with UT (Ultrasonic Test) thickness data, SEM images, and numerical simulation results in order to analyze the extent of damage and the cause of leakage in the small bore piping. As a result, it is concluded that the main cause of the small bore pipe wall thinning is liquid droplet impingement erosion. Moreover, it is observed that the leak occurred at the reattachment point of the vortex flow in the downstream side of the orifice.

  • In this study, the effect of niobium addition on the passivation behavior of Ti alloys in NaCl solution was investigated using various electrochemical methods. An ${\alpha}$-phase in Ti alloy was transformed into a ${\beta}$-phase and martensite structure decreased as Nb content increased. The corrosion and passivation current density($+300mV_{SCE}$) decreased as Nb content increased, and thereby a stable passive film was formed on the Ti alloy. Potential of Ti-xNb alloy in the passive region increased, whereas, current density decreased with time from results of potentiostatic and galvanostatic tests. Also, the corrosion morphology showed the smaller pits as Nb content increased. Consequently, Ti alloy contained high Nb content showed a good resistance to pitting corrosion in 0.9% NaCl solution.

  • Aluminum and its alloys have been widely used in various fields because of low weight, high strength, good conductivity, and low price. It is well known that aluminum alloys that cause natural oxide film can inhibit corrosion in wet, salty environments. However, these oxides are so thin that corrosion occurs in a variety of environments. To prevent this problem, an electrochemical anodizing technique was applied to the aluminum alloy surface to form a thick layer of oxide and a unique oxide shape, such as a hierarchical pore structure simultaneously combining large and small pores. The shape of the structures was implemented using stepwise anodization voltages such as 40 V for mild anodizing and 80 V for hard anodizing, respectively. To maximize water repellency, it is crucial to the role of surface structures shape. And a hydrophobic thin film was coated by 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-Perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane (FDTS) to minimize surface energy of the structure surface. Thus, such nanoengineered superhydrophobic surface exhibited a high water contact angle and excellent corrosion resistance such as low corrosion current density and inhibition efficiency.

  • The greatest purpose of chromate treatment is to improve anti-corrosion by stabilizing a metal surface. Because metal surface forms a compound by absorbing oxygen or water in the air by being generally unstable, it is necessary to improve anti-corrosion of the metal by forming the metal surface with a stable film. When considering the economical efficiency and requirements together because the film of the metal surface treated with chromate has good anti-corrosion and the stability also in the air by being compact and strong, Chromate treatment has been used most up to the electronics industry from the auto industry. However, these days, because hexavalent chromium is both a toxic agent to be able to cause cancers and deadly poisonous environmental pollutant, the strong legal controls on its use is being imposed all over the world. Because of this reason, a new anti-corrosion method is being required. Also, by users' various demands, the passivations that have recently been developed require various characteristics such as conductivity, chemical resistance, alkali cleaning resistance as well as anti-corrosion. We could confirm the results such as excellent anti-corrosion compared to chromate, conductivity, chemical resistance and detergent resistance as the result of analysis of various characteristics of the galvannealed sheet steels coated with Cr-Free solution developed in this research.

  • The fatigue crack growth behaviors of SA508 Gr.3 Cl.2 low alloy steel in high temperature water environment were investigated. Overall, weld metal showed similar crack growth rate as that of base metal. At 0.01 Hz, fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) was higher than that in air while the difference was smaller at 0.1 Hz. Also, FCGR showed ${\Delta}K$ dependency at 0.1 Hz only, indicating that the environmental effect was much greater at slower loading frequency of 0.01 Hz. FCGR of SA508 Gr.3 Cl.2 low alloy steel was compatible to or smaller than the ASME Sec. XI fatigue reference curves in high temperature water environment.

  • Due to various types of Zn coatings for many decades for various applications, it is imperative to study and compare their corrosion resistance properties of some of these. Here, we introduce a systematic methodology for evaluation and validation of corrosion protection properties of metallic coatings. According to this methodology, samples are were exposed in an advanced cyclic corrosion test chamber according to ISO 14993, and removed at the end of each withdrawal for respective corrosion and electrochemical characterization to evaluate both barrier and galvanic protection properties. Corrosion protection properties of coatings were evaluated by visual examination according to ISO 10289, mass loss and subsequent corrosion rate measurements, electrochemical properties, and advanced electrochemical scanning techniques. In this study, corrosion protection properties of a commercial zinc rich coating (ZRC) on AISI 1020 mild steel substrates were evaluated and benchmarked against hot dip galvanized (HDG). Results were correlated, and corrosion protection capabilities of the two coatings were compared. The zinc rich coating performed better than hot dip galvanized coating in terms of overall corrosion protection properties, according to the exposure and experimental conditions used in this study. It proved to be a suitable candidate to replace hot dip galvanized coatings for desired applications.
