The Influence of CSR Beneficiary Appeals on the Attractiveness of Corporate Identity (CSR 수혜자 소구 유형이 기업정체성매력에 미치는 영향)

  • Companies are investing in CSR activities as a way to fulfill their societal obligations. It is expected that companies' CSR activities would be an effective investment to enhance corporate image, leading to consumers' purchase behavior. However, sometimes, CSR activities have a null or negative effect on the evaluation of company. The purpose of this research is to find ways to solve these problems and it reviews some research concerning donation and introduce these research into CSR. Specifically, this study examines the effect of CSR beneficiary appeals on the attractiveness of corporate identity and the mediating role of the inferred motives of CSR. The results show that consumers evaluate the corporate identity less attractive which employ the self-benefit CSR appeal. In addition, the findings also suggest that the effect of the CSR beneficiary appeal on the attractiveness of corporate identity is mediated by the inferred motives. These results suggest some managerial implications concerning communication guidelines of CSR. Specifically, companies need to communicate sincere motives of CSR rather than business.

Assessing How Foreign CSRs Affect Home Country Consumers (해외 CSR에 대한 모국 소비자의 평가)

  • This study is intended to empirically investigate how Korean consumers evaluate foreign CSRs conducted by Korean firms. Specifically, the study investigates the effects of domestic vs. foreign CSR targets & domestic vs. global NGO affiliations by employing a two-way 2-by-2 factorial design. Field experiments were carried out with adult consumers in Seoul aged over 25. Our findings, first, suggest that Korean consumers perceive domestic CSRs more positively than foreign CSRs. But Korean consumers were found to respond more positively to foreign CSRs when the focal firm was perceived as a global firm. As regards to NGO affiliations, the study found that consumers were partially favorable towards domestic NGOs. However, interestingly, foreign CSRs with domestic NGOs were perceived more favorably than foreign CSRs with foreign NGOs.

Effects of Crisis History & Crisis Information Disclosure on Corporate Trust among Chinese Consumers: Focus on Corporate Ability Crisis & CSR Crisis (위기 이력과 위기공개 타이밍이 중국 소비자의 기업 신뢰에 미치는 영향: 기업 능력 위기와 CSR 위기 중심으로)

  • Negative perceptions about corporate social responsibility (CSR) crises and repeated crises are increasing. It is necessary to examine the effects of a proactive strategy of disclosing crisis information against the negative perceptions. The research is intended to analyze ability-based trust, and benevolence-based trust by crisis type, crisis history, and timing of crisis disclosure. In this regard, a 2 (crisis history: present vs. absent) x 2 (crisis type: corporate ability crisis vs CSR crisis) x 2 (timing of crisis disclosure: stealing thunder vs thunder) between-groups design experiment was conducted. Research results show crisis type and crisis history have significant interaction effects on ability-based trust. In the CSR crisis, the case with crisis history shows lower ability-based trust than the case without crisis history. Timing of crisis disclosure showed significant interactions with crisis history and crisis type. The stealing thunder strategy heigntened ability-based trust and benevolence-based trust against the CSR crises and the cases without crisis history more than the corporate ability crises and the cases with crisis history. Considering that the stealing thunder strategy is more effective with the CSR crises than the corporate ability crises, the research results suggest that future CSR crisis responses should prepare active disclosure of crisis information before news media disclosure of such information.

  • How does authenticity influence the process that conducts a company's CSR Strategy? Authenticity, an internal/external alignment condition that an employee feels in relation to an organization, means the decision on how true and beneficial to employees through their experiences, such as thoughts and emotions. Also, it can be understood as a process of meaning formation between the organization's strategy to conduct CSR and the perception of employees conducting CSR. To prove the relation between authenticity and CSR clearly, we used various techniques like Text Mining, Topic Modeling and Semantic network analysis about O corporation's 657 review data, from 2015 to 2021. As a result of the analysis, we find out the special issues and types. The analysis shows that the issue concerning the 'external image' is the biggest characteristic of authenticity perception in other conditions. Furthermore, the types of authenticity perception evaluations are largely divided into acceptance and rejection, in detail, five categories. This study indicates that organizations should consider both external and internal conditions when establishing CSR strategies. In addition, it is necessary to be an interactive circular relationship between the organization and employee, collecting and reflecting employee's perceptions. Finally, this study proposes ways to overcome problems related to interaction.

The Depending Effect of Proactive CSR Activity and the Overcoming Effect of Reactive CSR Activity on Fashion Retailer's Corporate Social Irresponsibility Crisis (패션소매유통기업의 사회적 무책임 위기에 대한 능동형 CSR 활동의 방어 효과와 수동형 CSR 활동의 극복 효과)

  • This study examines the effectiveness of CSR through the expectancy disconfirmation theory. The change of CSR belief after a corporate social irresponsibility (CSIR) crisis was investigated in terms of activity timing (proactive activities before CSIR crisis/reactive activities after CSIR crisis). Study 1 explores the influence of CSR belief perceptions formed through usual CSR activities on CSR belief decline after a CSIR crisis and the moderating effect of CSR activity types. Higher CSR belief perceptions are formed through usual CSR activities that result in a large CSR belief decline. The moderating effect of CSR activity types on CSR belief decline is found. Volunteer activity has the strongest depending effect on CSIR crisis. Study 2 explores the influence of CSR belief perceptions formed through CSIR crisis on a CSR belief incline after CSR activities and the moderating effect of CSR activity types. The lower CSR belief perception after CSIR crisis results in a high CSR belief incline after CSR activities. The moderating effect of CSR activity types on CSR belief incline is found. Cause-related marketing has the strongest overcoming effect on a CSIR crisis.

A Study on CSR Types of Cosmetic Companies to Gain Customer Loyalty of Product Brand (제품 브랜드의 고객 충성도를 확보하기 위한 화장품 기업 CSR 활동 유형 연구)

  • In the domestic cosmetics market, it is important to secure high customer loyalty in order to stably enter the market. To do this, customers should have a deep sense of trust and bond through the authenticity of the brand. At this time, among the components of brand authenticity, only corporate authenticity has a positive effect on customer brand attachment and loyalty. This paper suggests marketing strategies based on CSR activities that can most effectively show corporate authenticity. First, only cases where the activity was continued for more than one year and the activity contents and results were clear and recognized for authenticity were selected. Twenty cosmetic brands met this condition and 28 CSR activities which conducted by the brand are analyzed. The characteristics of each area were derived by dividing it into four areas of desirable society presented by the EU, and a marketing strategy for each type was presented. This research will be of practical help in conducting CSR activities later in the enterprise.

  • Recently, the proportion of overseas orders of domestic construction companies is increasing, and the global market demands management transparency on corporate social responsibility activities. Therefore, domestic companies are faced with the need to systematically prepare for social responsibility activities. The purpose of this study was to examine whether CSR activities have a moderating effect on the relationship between organizational trust, job satisfaction, turnover intention and contract type. This study analyzed the effect of CSR activities on organizational trust, job satisfaction and turnover intention. The study targets regular and irregular workers in construction companies who promote CSR activities through the homepage, public service ad, and media. The questionnaire distributed 300 copies online. The final valid sample is 255 (145 Regular and 110 Irregular). Empirical analysis used a structural equation model. The results of the study are as follows. First, in CSR activities, economic responsibility, philanthropic responsibility and ethical responsibility had a positive (+) effect on organizational trust. Second, organizational trust had a positive (+) effect on job satisfaction in CSR activities. Finally, the magnitude of the Moderate effect of the type of labor contract according to the group classification showed that the CSR activity on organizational trust had many regular employees with economic responsibility. Also, organizational trust in job satisfaction was found to be large in regular employees. The results of this study can be a guide to CSR activities of construction companies in terms of organizational effectiveness.

Analysis and Classification on CSR activities of global companies in rural area (농촌으로 확대되는 글로벌 기업의 CSR 활동 유형 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to propose useful suggestions by analyzing cases as to how global companies have implemented a rural outreach as a part of their CSR activities. Methods: Case studies were conducted. The cases were selected through the literature review and, based on two-by-two matrices, four types of cases were classified. Results: The results of this study are as follows; CSR activities of global companies in the rural area were categorized into two parts - "where to support(agricultural business or rural area)" and "how to support(whether to connect with business or not)." Conclusion: Domestic companies need to refer to the result of this study to increase the diversity and the effectiveness of their rural outreaches of CSR activities.

The Effect of Corporate Social Responsibility on Corporate Image: The Role of Spillover Effect and Negativity Effect based on CSR dimensions (기업의 사회적 책임이 기업 이미지에 미치는 영향 - 차원별 파급효과와 메시지 유형을 중심으로 -)

  • Previous researches have proven that corporate social responsibility(adhere CSR) is positively related to corporate performance. But Most of CSR related researches have several limitations. One of limitations is that those researches treated CSR as unidimensional construct. Almost researchers in the area of CSR concepts insisted that CSR is consist of multi dimensions. Carroll's four dimensions of CSR have been utilized by numerous academicians. Carroll asserted that CSR is composed of four dimensions: economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic responsibility. But Carroll's dimensions were revised as three dimensions by Schwartz and Carroll, because ethical and philanthropic responsibility are not mutually exclusive. If CSR construct is composed of multiple dimensions, a message related to one of dimensions changes beliefs or evaluations about other dimensions that are not mentioned in the message. This phenomenon is called as "spillover effect". According to Ahluwalia, Unnava, and Burnkrant, negative information spills over to attributes that are associated with the target attributes but not mentioned in the message. Like this, this preponderant effect of negative information over positive information has been termed the "negativity effect". In this paper, authors try to prove the spillover effect and negativity effect among Schwartz and Carroll's three dimensions(economic, legal, and ethical responsibility) of CSR. The results of this study show that messages related to legal and ethical responsibility cause spillover effect and influence consumers' evaluation to other dimensions. Moreover, when negativity effect is added on spillover effect, spillover effect is more increased. It means that negative messages related to legal and ethical responsibility is more harmful to corporate image than negative message related to economic responsibility. The results of this study will help companies to manage corporate image using CSR messages as marketing communication tools. Companies should manage messages related to legal and ethical responsibility for more efficiently managing corporate image. Specially, because negative messages related to legal and ethical responsibility are more harmful to corporate image, companies must take care not to spread out negative message related to legal and ethical responsibility. Finally, we discuss the implications of the findings and limitations.

  • Fashion companies make use of diverse strategies to have a competitive edge as there is a growing fierce competition. According to earlier studies, consumers prefer the products and services of companies that direct their energy into CSR activities if there's little disparity in quality of products and services among the companies. The way consumers look at the CSR activities of businesses is very important for the companies since it is linked to their evaluation and image of the companies and indulgencies on their word-of-mouth, purchase and loyalty. It's not quite advisable for fashion companies to make an investment in CSR activities without any specific plans or conviction of the effectiveness of the activities. Actually, lots of domestic companies fail to success their CSR activities, despite of their hard efforts. This study was to examine the appropriateness of corporate CSR activities, the attitude of customers to companies and their intention of recommendation and purchase in detail, and to provide some information on strategy setting for the CSR activities of fashion businesses.
