In this paper, the directional carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol in the immediate acknowledgement mode for IEEE 802.15.3c is analyzed under saturation environments. For the analysis, a sensing region and an exclusive region with a directional antenna are computed probabilistically and a Markov chain model in which the features of IEEE 802.15.3c and the effects of using directional antennas are incorporated is analyzed. An algorithm to find the maximal number of concurrently transmittable frames is proposed. The system throughput and the average transmission delay are obtained in closed forms. The numerical results show the impact of directional antennas on the CSMA/CA media access control (MAC) protocol. For instance, the throughput with a small beamwidth of antenna is more than ten times larger than that for an omnidirectional antenna. The overall analysis is verified by a simulation. The obtained results will be helpful in developing an MAC protocol for enhancing the performance of mmWave wireless personal area networks.

Autonomous business card exchange system using ZigBee with low power and short range was configured In the autonomous business card exchange system characterized as full mesh network in which every node exchanges each information one by one, it is necessary to reduce the time taken for information to be exchanged. In this paper, the novel method where the node ID is exchanged based on CSMA/CA and then the information of each node is broadcast to other nodes according to the ID list based on FIFO. The time required for exchanging information using the proposed method was analyzed and compared with the direct exchange method based on CSMA/CA. The results show that it takes less time in the proposed method than the direct exchange time.

One of the consideration things to design protocol in wireless sensor networks is to maximize lifetime of sensor node as reducing energy consumption. In this paper propose reserve based multichannel CSMA mac protocol for minimizing energy consumption which arise from collision and waiting retransmission at channel access process in mac layer Each sensor node which constitute sensor networks has data channel and control channel. And as sensor node reserve channel for data transmission by using control channel and receipt node allow reservation node to use data channel, sending node can abbreviate try of retransmission after random interval time. Also, When sending node delivers selects option channel in available channels to receipt node, the receipt node decide whether the channel is available to oneself and through the result select transmission channel ultimately. Performance evaluation compare with previous simple multichannel CSMA.

We define the incomplete medium sharing system as a multi-channel shared medium communication system where any types of constraints are imposed to the set of channels that may be allocated to any transmitter-receiver node pair. A set of distributed MAC schemes are proposed, all of which are based on the CSMA/CA scheme employed in IEEE 802. 11 WLAN standards. Distributed MAC schemes are proposed in three different forms, which can be differentiated by the number and the location of back-off timers; that is, (1) one timer for all queues destined for different receiver nodes, (2) multiple timers at individual transmission queues, (3) multiple timers for individual channels. Through an extensive set of computer simulations, the performances of the proposed MAC schemes show that the MAC scheme with timers at individual transmission queues outperform the others in terms of throughput and delay for most cases considered. The complexity of the proposed schemes is also compared, and the first scheme obviously turned out to be the simplest, and the complexity of the second and third schemes depends on the number of receiver nodes and the number of channels, respectively.

Disseminating broadcast information stably and reliably in IEEE 802.11-like CSMA wireless networks requires that a source should seek collision-free transmission to multiple receivers and keep track of the reception state of the multiple receivers. We propose a simple yet efficient feedback scheme for stable reliable broadcast in wireless networks, called 2-polling feedback, where the state of two receivers are checked by a source before its broadcast transmission attempt We present a performance analysis of the class of reliable broadcast feedback schemes in terms of two performance metrics (packet transmission delay and packet stable time). The analysis results show that the proposed 2-polling feedback scheme outperforms the current existing classes of feedback schemes in the literature, i.e., all-polling feedback and 1-polling feedback. The 2-polling feedback scheme has lower asymptotic complexity than the all-polling feedback, and has the same asymptotic complexity as the 1-polling feedback but exhibits almost 50 % reduction in packet stable time.

To support the WBAN, IEEE 802.15 Task Group 6 announced standardized documents on technical requirements of the PHY and MAC. In the IEEE 802.15.6 MAC protocol, CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) algorithm is performed based on the eight-level priorities according to the type of traffics of the periodic data from medical sensor nodes. Several nodes, which detected the changed bio signals, transmit emergency data at the same time, so latency could be higher than emergency latency and energy consumption will increase. In this thesis, we proposed a CSMA/CA algorithm in WBAN to solve these problems. Simulations are performed using a Castalia based on the OMNeT++ network simulation framework to estimate the performance of the proposed superframe and algorithms. Performance evaluation results show that the packet transmission success rate and energy efficiency are improved by reducing the probability of collision using the proposed MAC protocol.

In this paper, we propose a QoS guaranteed and energy-efficient transmission scheme for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs), which operate in conjunction with contention-based access protocols such as CSMA/CA. Energy consumption is one of the most important issues in WPAN systems, because WPAN devices are often required to operate under limited battery capacity. Furthermore, if the WPAN adopts a contention-based medium access protocol, the energy consumption problem becomes even more critical due to the collisions caused by independent channel access trials. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an algorithm that selects the optimum fragment size, modulation level, and transmission power, in order to minimize the energy consumption and guaranteethe QoS (Quality of Service) requirements, simultaneously. Our simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance than the previous ones.

In this paper, we propose the energy efficient transmission parameter selection method for Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) system which is applied to e-Navigation system considering various ship models environment. An appropriate selection of transmission parameters of HR-WPAN system is very essential to be considered for saving WPAN devices' energy consumption, when HR-WPAN system is applied to ship area network (SAN). Therefore, we propose an energy consumption model for a ship area network employing IEEE 802.15.3 based CSMA/CA HR-WPAN model and analyze the effect of transmission parameter selection on the performance of energy consumption. In particular, the path loss is the major performance decision parameter for the SAN employing HR-WPAN system, since it varies according to the material of shipbuilding such as steel(for large ship), FRP(for medium size ship) and compound wood(for small ship). Thus, we analyze and demonstrate that the proper transmission parameter selection of transmit power, PHY data rate and fragment size for each ship model could guarantee energy efficiency.

HomePlug AV(HPAV) is the standard for distribution of Audio/video content as well as data within the home by using the power line. It uses a hybrid access mechanism that combines TDMA with CSMA/CA for MAC technology. The CSMA/CA protocol in HPAV has two main control blobs that can be used for access control: contention window(CW) size and deferral counter(DC). In this paper, we extensively investigate the impacts of CW and DC on performance through simulations, and propose an adaptive mechanism that adjusts the CW size to enhance the throughput in HPAV MAC. We find that the CW size is more influential on performance than the DC. Therefore, to make controlling the network easier, our proposal uses a default value of DC and adjusts the CW size. Our scheme simply increases or decreases the CW size if the network is too busy or too idle, respectively, We compare the performance of our proposal with those of the standard and other competitive schemes in terms of throughput and fairness. Our simulation and analysis results show that our adaptive CW mechanism performs very well under various scenarios.

Data collected by sensors in field are transmitted to the base station gathering all of data. Because sensors have to gather data in surroundings and periodically transmit data to the base station, it makes energy consumed much. In this paper, we propose the scheme that is to avoid traffic congestion with achievement of energy efficiency, so collected data is transmitted efficiently. This is to adjust transmission rate differently in case of increasing or decreasing traffic and minimize the energy consumption with setting ideal options up basic CSMA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access) protocol in each sensor. Through the simulation, we find the ideal CSMA options and apply the proposed scheme of traffic control mechanism to them, then show energy efficiency and effective traffic control mechanism.
