Efficacy and Safety of COVID-19 Vaccines in Children Aged 5 to 11 Years: A Systematic Review (5-11세 소아에서 코로나19 백신의 효능 및 안전성에 대한 체계적 문헌고찰)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines in children aged 5-11 years, a rapid systematic review was conducted on published clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccines and studies that analyzed real-world data on adverse events after COVID-19 vaccination. Methods: A systematic search was conducted on medical literature in international (Ovid-MEDLINE) and pre-published literature databases (medRxiv), followed by handsearching up to January 4, 2022. We used terms including COVID-19, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, and vaccines, and the certainty of evidence was graded using the GRADE approach. Results: A total of 1,675 studies were identified, of which five were finally selected. Among the five studies, four consisted of data from clinical trials of each of the four types of COVID-19 vaccines (BNT162b2, mRNA-1273, CoronaVac, and BBIBP-CorV). The remaining study consisted of real-world data on the safety of the BNT162b2 vaccine in children aged 5-11 years. This systematic review identified that COVID-19 vaccines in recipients aged 5-11 years produced a favorable immune response, and were vaccines were effective against COVID-19. The safety findings for the BNT162b2 vaccine in children and early adolescents aged 5-11 years were similar to those data noted in the clinical trial. Conclusions: There is limited data on COVID-19 vaccines in children aged 5-11 years. Consequently continuous and comprehensive monitoring is necessary for the evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines.

  • 최근 COVID-19의 백신이 개발되어 접종을 시작했다. 정부는 집단면역 생성을 위해 접종 목표치를 설정하고, 민관합동신속대응팀을 설립하는 등의 조치를 취하고 있다. 하지만 COVID-19의 백신이 다른 백신에 비해 개발 기간이 훨씬 짧을뿐더러, 효과가 입증되지 않아 신뢰를 얻지 못하고 있다. 블록체인은 거래 당사자 간의 거래정보를 네트워크에 참여하는 모든 구성원들이 공동으로 기록, 검증, 저장하는 분산장부 기술로 공인된 제3자 없이도 무결성 및 신뢰성을 확보할 수 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 COVID-19 백신의 신뢰도를 제고하기 위해 블록체인을 기반으로 한 백신 접종 이력 관리 시스템을 설계하고, 향후 QR코드 등의 방식과 연동하여 백신 여권 등으로의 확장 가능성을 제시한다.

Nurses' vaccination acceptance and related factors in the initial stage of COVID-19 vaccination in Korea: a cross-sectional study (COVID-19 백신접종 시작 단계에서 간호사의 백신접종 수용도와 관련 요인)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors associated with nurses' vaccination acceptance in the initial stage of coronavirus infectious disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination in Korea. Methods: This cross-sectional study collected data from hospital-level or higher medical institutions from May 5 to May 7, 2021 with a total of 368 nurses via an online survey. Multiple regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with vaccination acceptance. Results: The acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination had an average score of 4.28 ± 0.80 out of 7 points. Among the sub-areas of acceptance, the safety of the vaccine exhibited the lowest score (average, 2.80 ± 0.83). The factors related to COVID-19 vaccination acceptance in nurses were age (over 40 compared to under 29) (β = .16, p = .008), experience (more than 11 years compared to under 5) (β = .16, p = .010), the absence of a preferred vaccine (β = -.14, p = .004), and educational background (a master's degree or higher compared to a bachelor's degree or lower) (β = .12, p = .042). Conclusion: In the initial stage of COVID-19 vaccination, nurses believed that the COVID-19 vaccine was important and that people should be vaccinated, but had concerns regarding the safety of the vaccine. Older age, more experience, the absence of a preferred vaccine, and a higher educational background were associated with higher acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination. Therefore, more active education on the necessity and value of vaccination for young people is required at the individual and socio-cultural level, and a sufficient supply of preferred vaccines at the national level is needed.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to provide basic data for college students living in the Seoul metropolitan area to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and explore countermeasures by identifying the degree of difference with anxiety, stress, and preventive health behavior before and after the COVID-19 vaccination. Methods: Data were collected from the subjects of the study, 192 college students aged 19 to 29 who completed the COVID-19 vaccination in the Seoul metropolitan area. The data were analyzed with the correlation, paired t-test, and independent t-test using the SPSS 27.0. Results: Preventive health behavior, health anxiety, and stress showed the positive correlation before and after the COVID-19 vaccination among the college students. After the COVID-19 vaccination, COVID-19 related stress including fear of infection (d=-0.11±0.09), and difficulty in social distancing (d=-0.21±0.08), and health behavior (d=-0.06±0.44) decreased compared to before the vaccination. Conclusion: Health education and health policies are required to continue preventive health behavior even after the vaccination.

Factors Influencing the COVID-19 Vaccination Intentions in Nurses: Korea, February 2021 (간호사의 COVID-19 백신 접종의도 영향요인: 한국, 2021년 2월 시점을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing COVID-19 vaccination intentions in nurses. Methods: The participants were 184 nurses in Korea. Data were collected using a Google Form online survey method in February, 2021, and analyzed using an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. Results: COVID-19 vaccination intention in nurses was correlated significantly with vaccine hesitancy (r = .58, p < .001), risk perception of COVID-19 (r = .22, p = .003), perception of vaccination as a professional duty (r = .59, p < .001), and attitude towards workplace infection control policies (r = .20, p = .007). Vaccine hesitancy (β = .40, p < .001) and the perception of vaccination as a professional duty (β = .44, p < .001) significantly influenced COVID-19 vaccination intention. The model developed in this study explained 50% of the variation in COVID-19 vaccination intention. Conclusion: Improving the perception of vaccination as a professional duty and lowering vaccine hesitancy may enhance nurses' COVID-19 vaccination intention. Above all, it is necessary to provide programs to encourage voluntary recognition of vaccination as a professional duty and develop strategies to reduce hesitancy toward COVID-19 vaccinations.

Efficacy and Safety of COVID-19 Vaccines in Adolescents: Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Studies and Observational Studies

  • The number of pediatric coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases worldwide are increasing compared to the early phase of the pandemic, along with highly transmissible severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus variant and the increase in adult COVID-19 vaccination. We conducted a rapid systematic review and meta-analysis of published randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of the COVID-19 vaccines and the observational retrospective studies on adverse events after COVID-19 vaccination in adolescents. Seventeen studies were finally included in this systematic review. Meta-analysis showed that although vaccination in adolescents was significantly effective to prevent COVID-19 infection in retrospective studies (risk ratio [RR], 0.29; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.22-0.37; I2 =100%), however the effect of preventing COVID-19 infection was lower than in RCTs (RR, 0.05; 95% CI, 0.01-0.27). In five retrospective studies, the pooled estimated proportion of participants with myocarditis and/or pericarditis was 2.33 per 100,000 of the population (95% CI, 0.97-5.61 per 100,000). Sub-group analysis with sex and vaccine doses showed that male (5.35 per 100,000) and the second dose (9.71 per 100,000) had significantly higher incidence of myocarditis and/or pericarditis than female (1.09 per 100,000) and the first dose (1.61 per 100,000), respectively. Our study showed that mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in adolescent recipients were favorable and effective against COVID-19 in RCT as well as observational studies. The safety findings of BNT162b2 vaccine in adolescents were explored and we found the difference of safety according to sex and vaccine doses. The occurrence of adverse events after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination should be monitored.

  • The purpose of this perspective research is to discuss the potential role of exercise-interventions in COVID-19, terms of prevention and prognosis in the periods of the COVID-19 vaccine. SARCO-CoV-2. COVID-19 was detected as a new virus causing severe cardiovascular and respiratory complications. It emerged as a global public health emergency and national pandemic. It caused more than 1 million deaths in the first 6 months of the pandemic and resulted in huge social and economic fluctuations internationally. Unprecedented stressful situations, such as COVID-19 blue and COVID-19 red impact on many health problems. In healthy individuals, COVID-19 infection may induced no symptoms (i.e., asymptomatic), whereas others may experience flu-like symptoms, such as ARDS, pneumonia, and death. Poor health status, such as obesity and cardiovascular and respiratory complications, are high risk factors for COVID-19 prevention, occurrence, and prognosis. Several COVID-19 vaccines are currently in human trials. However, the efficacy and safety of COVID-19 vaccines, including potential side effects, such as anaphylaxis (a life-threatening allergic reaction) and rare blood clots, still need to be investigated. On the basis of direct and indirect evidence, it seems that regular and moderate physical exercise can be recommended as a nonpharmacological, efficient, and safe way to cope with COVID-19. Physical inactivity and metabolic abnormalities are directly associated with reduced immune responses, including reduced innate, CMI, and AMI responses. Due to prolonged viral shedding, quarantine in inactive, obese and disease people should likely be longer than physical active people. Multicomponent and systemic exercise should be considered for the obese, disease, and elderly people. More mechanism research is needed in this area.

Analysis of the Spread of Issues Related to COVID-19 Vaccine on Twitter: Focusing on Issue Salience (코로나19 백신 관련 트위터 상의 이슈 확산 양상 분석: 이슈 현저성을 중심으로)

  • This study conducted a network analysis to determine how COVID-19 vaccine-related issue spread on Twitter during the introduction stage of the COVID-19. Issue diffusion tendency is analyzed according to the time period: phase 1 (initiation of vaccine introduction: March 7 - April 3, 2021), phase 2 (stagnant period of vaccination: April 4 - April 22, 2021), and phase 3 (increase of vaccination: April 23 - May 5, 2021). NodeXL was used for data collection and analysis. Daily Twitter network data were collected by entering search terms highly related to the COVID-19 vaccine. This study found that side effects-related opinions were repeatedly formed throughout the analysis period. As the vaccination rate increased and death cases were reported on media, death-related issues also emerged on Twitter. On the other hand, vaccine safety did not receive much attention on Twitter. The results of this study highlight the role of social media as a channel of issue diffusion when a national disaster strikes. We emphasize the need for the government to monitor public opinions on social media and reflect them in crisis communication strategies.

  • This study conducted YouTube network analysis on YouTube video related with prevention of COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccine to explores how government's policy is spread via social media in the condition of COVID-19. As a result of network analysis on the Mask chaos, A surge in confirmed cases, supply of vaccine, the influence of media like YTN and KBS is large, their view count is high. Government highlights to inform correct information actively to face negative massage and misinformation. The media has to fact check on the misinformation and disinformation.

Influence of COVID-19 Vaccination Awareness on Clinical Practice (COVID-19 Vaccine 접종 인식이 현장실습에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was investigate the relationship between vaccination and clinical practice during the COVID-19 period, when clinical practice education for public health students is shifting to a non-face-to-face direction. Students' clinical practice experience after graduation is an important part of their professional careers. The result that students who wanted to work in health care had a higher level of face-to-face clinical practice than students who did not (OR: 3.421, 95%CI: 1.333-8.775). Face to face clinical practice was higher among vaccination students (OR: 2.522, 95%CI: 1.017-6.254). In the non-face-to-face clinical practice conducted at the COVID-19 of environment students were found to be low in satisfaction with the overall clinical practice due to concerns about contracting infectious diseases. Additionally, I felt anxious about working in the field after getting a job. Accordingly, we will be able to enhance the professional role of students by actively supporting vaccinations that can relieve anxiety about infectious diseases and conducting face-to-face clinical practice.
