  • The purpose of the study was to determine if an abstract color palette was representative of a color scheme of interior environment by which the meaning of colcor could be determined. An abstract color palette was developed by the researchers to show contrast, overlapping, and adjacencies as they might actually appear in an interior environment. Six pictures and six color palettes were used to test the meaning of color. The questionnaire consisted of 21 words to describe the color of interior environment. The sample consisted of 73 undergraduate students of varied majors. A factor analysis was used to identify the structure of color meaning. Five factors; emotional factor, factor of unity, spatial quality factor, factor of complexity, and social evaluation factor were identified. A t-test was used to analyze the difference in responses to the descriptor words for the pictures and palettes. It was found that in 14 of 21 descriptor, there was no significant difference between evaluation of color meaning for the pictures and palettes in 50% or more of the cases.

  • We have studied color tracking of a fringe-field driven homogenously aligned nematic liquid crystal (LC) cell with negative dielectric anisotropy and compared it with other devices such as the twisted nematic(TN) and in-plane switching(IPS) modes. According to studies, the TN device shows bluish color at grey scale and even at a low retardation cell it cannot avoid color tracking. The authentic IPS device having cell retardation value of 0.23 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ also shows bluish white color. However, the FFS device shows excellent color tracking characteristics even at high retardation value of the cell while keeping high transmittance and greenish white.

  • Recently, as the prepress mainstream is changed to the digital wolkflow, various digital proofing systems such as high price dye sublimation printers and low price ink jet printers are widely used in printing industry. Generally, CRT monitors are also often used as a soft proofing device for hard-copy image output. However, displayed color image on CRT monitor does not match to the actual color printing sheets. Because, the color space of CRT monitor used RGB color space, and it is differ with printing device color space, CMY. Therefore, proper color compensations are needed to match the colors between hard-copy proofs on the printing device and soft copy proofs on the monitor. For the proper compensation, we used LUT and gamut mapping method for color space transformation between device dependent color space and device independent color space, vis a vis. This paper shows the application method and the usefulness of CRT monitor for the soft-copy proofing using the output characteristics of printing device.

  • In this paper, the simulation of the n-p-n-p layer stacked color detector is presented. A color detector based on vertically integrated structures of silicon can overcome color moire or color aliasing effect. The color detector is designed to separate the fundamental chromatic components at each junction and exhibits maxima of the spectral sensitivity at red, green, and blue region, respectively. From this result, it is observed that the spectral response can be controlled by the doping concentration and structure of the devices.

  • We propose a dual Fabry-Perot interferometer (DFPI) structure that combines two Fabry-Perot interferometers. The structure is designed to have spectral peaks in the red, green, and blue regions simultaneously, to be applicable to R, G, and B subpixels without any patterning process. The optimized structure has been fabricated on a glass substrate using a thermal evaporation technique. When the DFPI structure was attached to the quantum-dot color-conversion layer, the full width at half maximum values of the green and red spectra decreased by 47.29% and 51.07% respectively. According to CIE 1931 color space, the DFPI showed a 37.66% wider color gamut than the standard RGB color coordinate. Thus it was experimentally proven that the proposed DFPI structure improved color purity. This DFPI structure will be useful in realizing a display with high color purity.

  • The color temperature and light color of nighttime lighting in a particular city is an important factor in determining its nighttime identity. To quantitatively analyze the nocturnal characteristics of Seoul, this study focuses on the light color of the lighting sources that used in the places included in the Seoul Night View 100 Photobook. As a result, the color temperature of white light in the surveyed places is in the range of 2,500~3,500K, of which 3,000~3,500K represents the highest proportion. In addition, the color temperature in the 2,500~3,500K range was found to be evenly distributed across the five surveyed regions. Apart from white light, blue color hue accounts for a high percentage in the monochromic light category, and the excitation purity was measured to be 71.6% on average. In addition, 46% of the buildings with monochromic light are in urban centers.

  • As this research is the one analyzing the color using status of the office furniture in overseas, it surveyed and analyzed the color use on the basis of total 22 products by selecting 7 office furniture companies in overseas so as to promote the upright use of the color in planning the office furniture. As for the research method, the theory of color system (NCS) and the theory of color harmony (Ostwald and Fiber Biren), which are used in this research on the basis of the theoretical consideration for the office furniture and the definition and importance of the color, have been specified and analyzed on the basis of these. In this result, only 8 products, which are 36.4% among 22 products of 7 companies, are harmonized as per the theory of color harmony of two colors. It is expected that the effective influence may be bestowed on improvement of the office environment and increase of the work efficiency as the more planned and effective use of the color is made for the office furniture on the basis of this research.

  • Various color spaces such as RGB, HSV, log-chromaticity have been used in the field of person re-identification. However, not enough studies have been done to find suitable color space for the re-identification. This paper reviews color invariance of color spaces by diagonal model and explores the suitability of each color space in the application of person re-identification. It also proposes a method for person re-identification based on a histogram refinement technique and some fusion strategies of color spaces. Two public datasets (ALOI and ImageLab) were used for the suitability test on color space and the ImageLab dataset was used for evaluating the feasibility of the proposed method for person re-identification. Experimental results show that RGB and HSV are more suitable for the re-identification problem than other color spaces such as normalized RGB and log-chromaticity. The cumulative recognition rates up to the third rank under RGB and HSV were 79.3% and 83.6% respectively. Furthermore, the fusion strategy using max score showed performance improvement of 16% or more. These results show that the proposed method is more effective than some other methods that use single color space in person re-identification.

  • An image obtained from a low light environment results in a low-exposure problem caused by non-ideal camera settings, i.e. aperture size and shutter speed. Of particular note, the multiple color-filter aperture (MCA) system inherently suffers from low-exposure problems and performance degradation in its image classification and registration processes due to its finite size of the apertures. In this context, this paper presents a novel method for the color enhancement of low-exposure images and its application to color shift model-based MCA system for image refocusing. Although various histogram equalization (HE) approaches have been proposed, they tend to distort the color information of the processed image due to the range limits of the histogram. The proposed color enhancement algorithm enhances the global brightness by analyzing the basic cause of the low-exposure phenomenon, and then compensates for the contrast degradation artifacts by using an adaptive histogram specification. We also apply the proposed algorithm to the preprocessing step of the refocusing technique in the MCA system to enhance the color image. The experimental results confirm that the proposed method can enhance the contrast of any low-exposure color image acquired by a conventional camera, and is suitable for commercial low-cost, high-quality imaging devices, such as consumer-grade camcorders, real-time 3D reconstruction systems, digital, and computational cameras.
