  • To resolve the Global Warming problem, it have to reduce $CO_2$ emission. Korea need to do actively more the effort to reduce the emission because $CO_2$ emission per person is top level in the world. It is performing variously. However, we should recognize the $CO_2$ emission attribute to decrease $CO_2$. Analyzing $CO_2$ emission of the construction equipment is important in this aspect. Present, the most popular $CO_2$ emission measuring method is the way using fuel consumption and emission factor. But this method have the problem of reliability because can't reflect the factor being out of proportion at fuel consumption. This study analyzed the reason of difference and compared to the emission factor method after calculate $CO_2$ emission in direct measurement method.

  • In this study, contents of limestone in cement manufactured by six domestic plants for Portland cement were investigated in terms of the strength and its relation to the $CO_2$ emission due to limestone material and its physical properties in cement manufacturing process. the relationship among CaO content, compressive strength, and $CO_2$ emission was surveyed for the limestone quantity in decomposition reaction and the loss of limestone quantity contained in each cement. As a result of $CO_2$ emission calculation for unit cement, it was found that the $CO_2$ emission due to decomposition of limestone was occupied 67% of total emission quantity. Furthermore, there was a difference in $CO_2$ emission quantity depending on the cement manufacturing process management. Also, it was shown that fossil fuel usage and material loss had a major influence as main factors of $CO_2$ emission. An increase in the CaO content in cement resulted in an increase in the compressive strength. On the contrary, CaO content and compressive strength were reduced with the growth of loss quantity of limestone. It was verified that the material and process management were more effective than CaO yield in cement manufacturing for $CO_2$ emission with the growth of $CO_2$ emission quantity. Pozzolanic materials such as PFA and GGBS in concrete mix affected the price, $CO_2$ emission and development of strength of concrete.

  • G8 summit meeting held in July 2008 decided to set up a long-term goal, by 2050, reducing the world greenhouse emissions by half of those emitted in 1990. In November 2009, the Government announced to reduce the national $CO_2$ emission by 30[%] of BAU by 2020. Electric power industries in Korea produce most of their electricity by burning fossil fuels, and emit approximately 28[%] of national $CO_2$ emissions. Monitoring the $CO_2$ emissions. Monitoring the $CO_2$ emission of electric power plants is very important. This paper presents a method to calculate the hourly $CO_2$ emission for a thermal power plant burning mixture of coal and oil using the performance test data and coal-oil mix rate. An example of $CO_2$ emission calculation is also demonstrated.

  • As global warming progresses, nations around the world are trying to reduce emission of $CO_2$ that accounts for the greatest portion of greenhouse gases. To reduce $CO_2$ emission, it is first necessary to estimate $CO_2$ emission of each industry. Government authorities estimate basic unit of $CO_2$ emission from re-bar that is one of the key materials of construction industry with LCA technique (Life Cycle Assessment). However, basic unit of $CO_2$ emission varies from organization to organization. The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (2004) publishes it 3.48($TCO_2/ton$) and 0.30($TCO_2/ton$) with input-output analysis while the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (2008) defines it as 0.34($TCO_2/ton$) with process analysis, which indicates ambiguity in application of basic unit of $CO_2$emission. Based on the analysis of conventional methods used for estimating the $CO_2$ emission, therefore, this research suggests existing problems on the methods and focuses on proposing an strategy to effectively estimate the basic unit of $CO_2$ emission according to the energy consumption limited to the re-bar production in steel mill in order to overcome the problems. The result of this research is expected to be helpful in calculating and reducing $CO_2$ emission.

  • Accurate assessment of $CO_2$ emission from buildings requires gathering $CO_2$ emission data of various construction materials. Unfortunately, the amount of available data is limited in most countries. This study was conducted to present the $CO_2$ emission data of concrete, which is the most important construction material in Korea, by conducting a statistical analysis of the concrete mix proportion. Finally, regression models that can be used to estimate the $CO_2$ emission of concrete in all strengths were developed, and the validity of these models was evaluated using 24 and 35MPa concrete data. The validation test showed that the error ratio of the estimated value did not exceed a maximum of 5.33%. This signifies that the models can be used in acquiring the $CO_2$ emission data of concrete in all strengths. The proposed equations can be used in assessing the environmental impact of various construction structural designs by presenting the $CO_2$ emission data of all concrete types.

  • This Paper presented the reduction methods of $CO_2$ emission from ships during voyage. In order to decrease $CO_2$ emission during voyage the equation was established and conducted the study about the relationship between ship speed, the propulsive efficiency and its $CO_2$ production. The results obtained from the examinations are as follows : 1. $CO_2$ emission from sailing ships can be decreased by reducing specific fuel oil consumption of main diesel engine, coefficient of total resistance and ship speed and also by increasing propeller efficiency. 2. Diesel-electric propulsion system is more effective than diesel-mechanical system to decrease the level of $CO_2$ emission during long voyage. 3. Good condition of ship's hull surface, rudder and propeller's surface can decrease the quantity of fuel oil and $CO_2$ emission by reducing the resistance of ship that can rise the propeller efficiency 4. $CO_2$ emitted from ships can be decreased in a global scale by giving attention to the synthetic transport efficiency.

  • This study investigates the convergence in per capita $CO_2$ emission by income group for an unbalanced panel of 152 countries from 1980 to 2013 using beta and sigma convergence model. Absolute beta and sigma convergence differed by $CO_2$ emission reduction policies in each countries. Conditional beta convergence shows that per capita income has a negative effect on growth in per capita $CO_2$ emission. In particular, better-quality institutions and technology accelerated the negative effect of per capita income on the speed of convergence of per capita $CO_2$ emission in high-income countries. For middle-income countries, the growth of income affected the convergence of $CO_2$ emission per capita, but institutional quality has an insignificant impact. On the other hand, improvements in the level of technology have a mitigating effect on the negative impact of income in middle-income and low-income countries, contributing to the increase in $CO_2$ emission.

  • The main reason of the earth global warming is $CO_2$ and the regulation about it in the whole world has been reinforced to reduce $CO_2$ emission. It is needed that we should reduce it in the process at the production of concrete generated much of $CO_2$ emission as the primary material of construction industry recognized unfriendly environment industry. Based on a concrete, this study was constructed the system to evaluate $CO_2$ emission generated in the stage of material production, transportation, manufacture and developed the program to reduce and evaluate it efficiently. As a result, most of $CO_2$ emission is generated in the stage of material and it is quantitatively evaluated $CO_2$ emission generated in the stage of materials, transportation and manufacture. Moreover, the evaluation system of the volume of $CO_2$ emission which has the friendly environment technology about reduction of $CO_2$ emission at each stage is suggested for quantitatively evaluation $CO_2$ emission generated in the process at the production of concrete and remicon production company could use it to evaluation $CO_2$ emission.

  • The $CO_2$ emission can be decreased due to freedom of generator maintenance scheduling(GMS). This paper proposes assessment of $CO_2$ emission considering generator maintenance scheduling(GMS) and evaluates effect of the GMS on $CO_2$ emission. And also, this paper assesses the $CO_2$ emission and the probabilistic production cost simulation of nuclear and thermal power generators considering operation of hydro and pumped generator. The minimum reliability criterion level satisfied production cost minimization function model is used in this paper. The practicality and effectiveness of the proposed approach are demonstrated by simulation studies for a real size power system in Korea in 2010.
