[$CO_2$] Emission from Carbon of Marine Fuel Oil in New Ships (신조선에서 연료탄소로부터의 $CO_2$ 배출 특성)

  • This study dealt with the measurement of exhausted gas concentration, the estimation of a combustion efficiency, and the review of IMO indexing. We concentrated on establishing the basic data to take a counterplan coping with $CO_2$ regulations. The average combustion efficiency was 98% in shop test of new engines and 96.5% in sea trial test of new ships, respectively. It would become lower for the old engine or/and ship. High combustion efficiency results in high $CO_2$ emission and low combustion efficiency results in high emission of incomplete combustion products. The efficient method reducing $CO_2$ emission without an increase in noxious air pollutants would be the development of a substitute fuel and the fuel-efficient and economical engine, and the fair play among shipping agencies in a ship speed. In reviewing of IMO indexing, it is necessary to begin by analyzing the carbon content of a marine fuel for a precise estimates.

  • After Kyoto Protocol was adopted for green gas reduction, each nations are stepping up efforts to reduce $CO_2$ of a typical green gas. Construction industry also is trying $CO_2$ reduction with the techniques of two types which are software and hardware techniques. The software technique are Passive Design considered green gas emission and the environment impact assessment by LCA. The hardware techniques are adjustment of equipment system and development of eco- friendly material. But, it is nonexistent that a study related to $CO_2$ emission considered detail process in construction industry. This study analyzed the relativeness of equipment combination and $CO_2$ emission by calculate $CO_2$ emission follow to equipment combination on earth-work which is the process emitted most $CO_2$ among railway bedding construction.

  • The $CO_2$ emission can be decreased due to freedom of generator maintenance scheduling(GMS). This paper proposes assessment of $CO_2$ emission considering generator maintenance scheduling(GMS) and evaluates effect of the GMS on $CO_2$ emission. And also, this paper assesses the $CO_2$ emission and the probabilistic production cost simulation of nuclear and thermal power generators considering operation of hydro and pumped generator. The minimum reliability criterion level satisfied production cost minimization function model is used in this paper. The practicality and effectiveness of the proposed approach are demonstrated by simulation studies for a real size power system in Korea in 2010.

  • In this study, state-of-the-art of $CO_2$ geological sequestration as a method of greenhouse gas reduction was reviewed. Thermal-Hydraulic-Mechanically(THM) coupled simulation technology and its application to a stability analysis of geological formation due to $CO_2$ injection as well as a leakage path analysis were investigated and introduced.

  • A cement which is used in construction and a concrete which is a hydration product of cement is considered anti-environmental materials because of lots of $CO_2$ emission in progress of producing and making them. But a concrete absorbs the $CO_2$ gas in atmosphere after hydration and in its lifetime. Based on Papadakis' theses, this research is carried on calculation of the $CO_2$ absorption quantity in concrete. Also, the emission of $CO_2$ was calculated by cement manufacture. As a result, It is said that the $CO_2$ which was emitted during cement manufacturing, was absorbed the 53% of emission quantity by the carbonation of concrete.

마이크로웨이브 플라즈마를 이용한 이산화탄소 분해

  • 지구상에 존재하는 모든 생물에 의해 배출되는 이산화탄소는 온실가스로써 산업혁명 이후 급격한 농도 증가로 인해 지구 온난화 등의 다양한 환경문제를 초래하고 있다. 지구 온난화의 가시화로 인한 각종 기후 협약 및 탄소배출권 등에 규제로 온실가스 감축의무부과가 확실해져 탈 석유기반 사회로 전환을 위한 이산화탄소를 처리하는 다양한 연구가 각국에서 활발히 진행 중이다. 본 연구에서 마이크로웨이브 플라즈마 토치를 이산화탄소 분해에 이용하게 되었고 그 목적은 이산화탄소가스를 마이크로웨이브로 가열하여 순수한 이산화탄소 플라즈마 토치를 발생함으로서 지구 온난화의 주범인 이산화탄소를 생산적으로 이용하기 위한 것으로 전자파를 발진하는 마그네트론으로는 3kW, 2.45GHz의 주파수를 사용한다. 마이크로웨이브 플라즈마 토치를 이용한 이산화탄소의 분해 시 생성되는 물질을 확인하기 위하여 이산화탄소의 열역학적 평형을 계산하였으며 또한 이산화탄소의 분해 반응의 준 평형상태에서의 속도상수를 이용하여 각 분해반응생성물들의 밀도비율을 계산하였고, 이를 일반화시켜 도시하였다. 위 과정을 통해 고온의 이산화탄소 토치는 탄화수소 연료를 1기압에서 개질할 수 있음을 알 수 있다. 예를 들어 메탄개질은 $CO_2+CH_4{\rightarrow}2CO+2H_2$의 반응식이 된다. 이때 엔탈피와 엔트로피 변화는 각 각 ${\Delta}H=247kJ/mole$${\Delta}S=257J/mole/deg.$이며 이 반응에 대한 gibbs 자유에너지는 $G={\Delta}H-T{\Delta}S$로서 개질 자발반응이 일어나는 온도는 $T={\Delta}H/{\Delta}S=961K$가 된다. 그리고 탄화수소 개질에 참여하는 산소와 CO 라디칼의 밀도가 대단히 높다. 따라서 메탄개질은 이산화탄소 토치를 통하여 1기압에서 쉽게 이루어진다.

A Study on the Release Characteristics of VOCs from Heat Recovery Ventilation System (폐열회수형 환기장치의 휘발성유기화함물 배출 특성에 관한 연구)

  • VOCs from the heat recovery ventilation system (total heat exchanger) are measured in this study. Two different types of element (L and M type) from heat recovery ventilating system are tested to study the intial release characteristics of VOCs under KS cooling and heating standard conditions. VOCs are measured for the various flow rates and different operating times. Considering errors in the test method and the measuring instrument, the tested heat recovery ventilating systems was found to release 6 major VOCs, such as acetic acid, 2-butanone (MEK), 2-(methylthio )ethylamine, toluene, styrene, and x-acids (Ion 57). The concentrations of released VOCs are not quite much affected by operating conditions. The results show much larger VOCs concentrations in the cooling mode than in the heating mode, due to the high operating temperatures.

The effect of heat exchanger type for exhaust heat recovery system on diesel engine performance (배기 열 회수 열교환기 형식이 디젤 엔진 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • Due to global warming and depletion of fossil fuels, technologies reducing $CO_2$ emission and increasing fuel efficiency simultaneously are required. An exhaust gas heat recovery system is a technology to satisfy both issues. This study analyses three types of heat exchanger installed on an exhaust pipe. In case of plate type heat exchanger, back pressure rapidly increased and maximum cylinder pressure reduced in high speed and maximum load, and back pressure increased over twice and specific fuel consumption also increased up to 2% which were the highest increasing rate. In case of fin tube type, the amounts of exhaust emissions and specific fuel consumption rate were less than the other two types. The effect of shell and tube was in the middle. Making a decision by only the effect on engine performance, a fin tube type is the best for exhaust heat recovery systems.

  • Considerable attention has been given to developing methodologies to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide from industry to meet strengthened environmental regulations. In this article, recent research trends on dry reforming of methane as an alternative method to reduce $CO_2$ emission from large scale industrial processes are addressed. To efficiently provide the energy needed in this strong endothermic reaction without additional $CO_2$ emission, it seems to be desirable to adopt autothermal reaction mode. The produced synthesis gas could be used as a reducing gas, or a feedstock for synthesis of chemicals and fuels.

  • 유럽연합(EU)은 2012년부터 항공산업에 대해 탄소배출권 거래제도를 적용할 예정이다. 따라서 유럽공항에서 출발 및 도착하는 모든 국제선과 국내선 항공편에 대해 탄소세가 부과될 것이며 이는 한국도 예외는 아니다. 또한 유럽을 운항하는 경우 장거리에 해당되어 중단거리를 운항하는 항공기들에 비해 총 탄소배출량이 더 많으므로 비용부담이 커질 것으로 예상된다. 본 연구는 EU-ETS로 인한 탄소세가 항공요금에 반영된다면 항공여객들이 어느 정도 민감하게 반응할 것이며 이러한 점들이 궁극적으로 한국의 항공시장에 어떤 영향을 미칠 것인지를 파악해 보는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 인천국제공항에서 프랑크푸르트 국제공항 노선을 이용하는 승객을 대상으로 직항노선과 중동지역 경유노선을 비교하여 EU-ETS 가격이 반영된 항공요금에 대한 반응을 Revealed Preference (RP)와 Stated Preference (SP) 설문자료와 Logit Model을 사용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구결과는 한국의 항공산업은 물론 2012년부터 부과될 EU-ETS에 대한 항공사들의 전략개발에 도움이 될 것이다.
