This work investigated the effects of different conductive agents on the electrochemical properties of anodes. SiOx possesses high theoretical capacity and shows excellent cycle performance; however, the low initial coulombic efficiency and poor electrical conductivity limit its applications in real batteries. In this study, electrodes were fabricated using two different conductive agents, and the resulting physical and electrochemical properties were analyzed. SEM observations confirmed the formation of a CNT conductive network throughout the electrodes, while the electrical conductivity contributed to the electrode was confirmed by impedance measurements. Thus, the electrode fabricated with the CNT conductive agent showed greater capacity and superior cycle performance than did the electrode fabricated using the DB conductive agent.
The significant growth of the Si photovoltaic industry has been so far limited due to the high cost of the Si photovoltaic system. In this regard, the most expensive factors are the intrinsic cost of silicon material and the Si solar cell fabrication processes. Conventional Si solar cells have p-n junctions inside for an efficient extraction of light-generated charge carriers. However, the p-n junction is normally formed through very expensive processes requiring very high temperature (${\sim}1000^{\circ}C$). Therefore, several systems are currently under study to form heterojunctions at low temperatures. Among them, carbon nanotube (CNT)/Si hybrid solar cells are very promising, with power conversion efficiency up to 15%. In these cells, the p-type Si layer is replaced by a semitransparent CNT film deposited at room temperature on the n-doped Si wafer, thus giving rise to an overall reduction of the total Si thickness and to the fabrication of a device with cheaper methods at low temperatures. In particular, the CNT film coating the Si wafer acts as a conductive electrode for charge carrier collection and establishes a built-in voltage for separating photocarriers. Moreover, due to the CNT film optical semitransparency, most of the incoming light is absorbed in Si; thus the efficiency of the CNT/Si device is in principle comparable to that of a conventional Si one. In this paper an overview of several factors at the basis of this device operation and of the suggested improvements to its architecture is given. In addition, still open physical/technological issues are also addressed.
For an analysis of dynamic behavior in carbon nanotube(CNT) which is widely used as micro and nano-sensors, an electrostatic force of CNT was investigated. For larger gaps in between sensor and electrode the van der Waals force can be ignored. The boundary condition in the CNT was assumed to clamped-clamped case at both ends. In this paper electrostatic force is expressed as linear equation along deflection using Taylor series. The first and second terms(${\zeta}_0$ and ${\zeta}_1$) of the linear equation are analyzed. Based on the simulation results nondimensional number ${\Phi}_0$ and ${\Phi}_1$ which came from ${\zeta}_0$ and ${\zeta}_1$ were decreased according to the increment of the gap. Reduction ratio of the second term ${\zeta}_1$ is increased up to 99% along to the increment of the gap. The higher order terms can be ignored and therefore, electrostatic force can be expressed using the first two terms of the linear equation. This results play an important role in analyzing the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the CNT as well as the pull-in voltage of simply supported switches.

For the CNT-FED to be cost-effective, many efforts for the lower voltage operation have been made in the under-gate cathode structure. In this study, the effects of the frit proportion in the CNT paste, cathode electrode width, CNT-to-counter electrode gap, and the CNT length in the cathode structure were examined.
A preliminary study on. field emitter array cathodes was conducted aiming at applying for electrodymanic tether (EDT) propulsion systems. The EDT propulsion systems are assumed to use for active removal systems of post-mission spacecraft, which would otherwise become space debris. A survey on field emit-ter array cathode technology was conducted, and it showed that carbon nanotube (CNT) emitters are suit-able to EDT application. Trial fabrications and evaluation tests of CNT emitters were conducted, which demonstrated a target emission current density of 10 ㎃/$\textrm{cm}^2$. It was found out that the most important technical issue for developing CNT emitters is to improve the performance against voltage breakdown between the emitter and the opposite electrode.
In this study, two series of CNT/$TiO_2$ electrodes were prepared. The decrease of surface area compared with that of the pristine carbon nanotubes (CNTs) indicated the blocking of micropores on the surface of the CNTs; was further supported by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and field emission SEM (FE-SEM) observations. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that the CNT/$TiO_2$ composites contained a mix of anatase and rutile forms of $TiO_2$ particles when the precursor was $TiO_2$ powder, whereas when the precursor was Ti ($OC_4H_7$) (TNB), the composites contained only the typical single and clear anatase $TiO_2$ particles. The energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) spectra showed the presence of C, O and Ti peaks for all samples. It was found that catalytic decomposition of methylene blue (MB) solution could be attributed to synthetic effects between the $TiO_2$ photocatalysis and electro-assisted CNTs network, and that photoelectrocatalytic oxidation increased with an increase of CNT composition. It was also found that the photoelectrocatalytic oxidation efficiency for MB is higher than that of photocatalytic oxidation. Moreover, the CNT/$TiO_2$ composites catalyst prepared by the impregnation method demonstrates higher photoelectrocatalytic activity than the mechanical mixture with the same CNT content.
In this study, two important requirements for the home production of a robot to detect and remove improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are presented in terms of the total cost for robot system development and the performance improvement of the mine detection technology. Firstly, cost analyses were performed in order to provide a reasonable solution following an engineering estimate method. As a result, the total cost for a mass production system without the mine detection system was estimated to be approximately 396 million won. For the case including the mine detection system, the total cost was estimated to be approximately 411 million won, in which labor costs and overhead charges were slightly increased and the material costs for the mine detection system were negligible. Secondly, a method for fabricating the carbon nanotube (CNT) based gas detection sensor was studied. The detection electrodes were formed by a photolithography process using a photosensitive CNT paste. As a result, this method was shown to be a scalable and expandable technology for producing excellent mine detection sensors. In particular, it was found that surface treatments by using adhesive taping or ion beam bombardment methods are effective for exposing the CNTs to the ambient air environment. Fowler-Nordheim (F-N) plots were obtained from the electron-emission characteristics of the surface treated CNT paste. The F-N plot suggests that sufficient electrons are available for transport between CNT surfaces and chemical molecules, which will make an effective chemiresistive sensor for the advanced IED detection system.
Field emission display(FED) using carbon nanotubes (CNT) as field emitters is expected to large-area panels with high luminance and low power consumption. In order to perform the uniform luminance with low driving voltage, we introduced a new electrode to apply higher electric potential over the CNT cathode in 2003.[1] In the study, we described the luminance uniformity of the panel and the improvement of emission uniformity by increasing the emission-site density. The luminance uniformity of the several ideal dots which were selected over the display area in the panel was 2.8%. [2] The CNT cathode was irradiated by excimer-laser, which was effective to improve emission uniformity and lower driving voltage. A prototype of CNT-FED character display was performed for middle size message displays. The prototype panel had 48 x 480-dots and the resolution was 1-mm. The panel realized high luminance at low power consumption. It will be important characteristics for legible and ubiquitous displays. [3]
