  • Automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) is the core technology of communication, navigation and surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM), automatically broadcasts its own position information using GNSS and has an advantage of lower geological constraints and faster update speed compared with legacy radar systems. EUROCONTROL defined all purpose structured eurocontrol surveillance information exchange (ASTERIX) CAT.021. ASTERIX CAT.021 is modified several times, but it has compatibility issues with previous version of it. In this paper, we have designed an efficient message processing module regardless of the version of ASTERIX CAT.021. This implemented module generates patterns to collect messages received from the network, after that, received messages are processed in the routine that is defined in accordance with the patterns.

  • Recently a system is being required to replace ILS due to increasing air traffic. In this paper, Curved approach is applied to an airport where ILS approach cannot be applied due to its geographical condition and restricted aerospace condition, and verified by flight test. After analysing conditions of Tae-an airfield of Hanseo University with virtual ILS approach, airfield applicability was evaluated by Curved approach using by GPS. Normally simulation is performed after establishing approach procedure using electric map, but recently verification is being performed by flight test without simulation because accuracy and reliability are increased. In this paper, established procedure is verified modified by flight test with Pilot Test and Auto Pilot test and controllability and passenger's stability were also checked.

  • We analyze fault detection algorithm of ephemeris included in navigation message, which is one of the GNSS risk factors. This algorithm uses carrier-phase measurement and baseline vector of two reference stations and is alternative method for uncertainty condition of previous ephemeris. Even though same ephemeris fault is occurred, the geometry condition, between baseline vector of reference stations and satellites, effects on performance of algorithm. Also, we introduce the suitable geometry of reference stations, threshold and performance index (MDE : Minimum Detectable Error) in jeju international airport.

  • Ground Based Augmentation System(GBAS) is a system that offers an aircraft within 23 NM radius from the airport precision positioning service and precision approach service using the concept of Differential Global Positioning System(DGPS). After GBAS ground equipment installing at the airport, functionalities and performances of GBAS should be verified through the GBAS ground and flight testing. This paper describes the methods and results for GBAS flight test using the flight inspection aircraft at Gimpo International Airport. From the test results, we confirmed that the VDB data was received without misleading within the VDB coverage of Gimpo International Airport, and VDB field strength, protection level, and course alignment accuracy met the evaluation's criteria.

  • 항공기 운항과 밀접하게 관련되는 장비중에 하나가 CNS&ATM관련 탑재 항공전자 장비이다. 임베디드 소프트웨어가 들어간 항전장비 개발에 에러 유입이 주로 요구도 분석 및 아키텍쳐 설계에서 일어난다. 항공전자 장비 개발에 운영자가 적극적으로 참여함으로써 에러 발생 요인 감소, 고장 영향성 분석, 요구도 기반 시험 등을 효율적으로 수행할 수가 있어, 장비의 개발기간 및 비용을 줄일 수가 있다.

  • This paper discusses the design and fabrication of a wireless VHF receiver for use in air traffic control. The VHF receiver was designed and tested in three modules: a control module, a receiver module and a power module, all of which were integrated into a single block for final testing. The fundamental performance of the receiver, and in particular, sensitivity, the most important factor, is designed to satisfy existing commercial wireless transmitter specifications for air traffic control. The receiver displays a sensitivity of -113 dBm, which is higher performance than existing commercial products, and is suitable for use as a basic component of CNS/ATM.

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated the VHF wireless transmitter for air traffic control. Fundamental performance of the investigated wireless transmitter is designed and fabricated to satisfy existing commercial wireless transmitter specification for air traffic control. 25 W and 50 W of output power can be generated by changing the power amplification part only. It is based on transmitting voice communication using AM modulation. Investigated wireless transmitter for air traffic control consists of four module parts: power supply, control, low power transmission and power amplification. We designed 1W transmitter to operate without power amplification part. It can be used properly in a basic component of CNS/ATM.

An Efficient Information Fusion Method for Air Surveillance Systems (항공감시시스템을 위한 효율적인 정보융합 기법)

  • Among the various fields in the communications, navigation, and surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM) scheme, the surveillance field, which includes an automatic dependent surveillance - broadcast (ADS-B) system and a multilateration (MLAT) system, is implemented using satellite and digital communications technology. These systems provide better performance than radar, but still incur position error. To reduce the error, we propose an efficient information fusion method called the reweighted convex combination method for ADS-B and MLAT systems. The reweighted convex combination method improves aircraft tracking performance compared to the original convex combination method by readjusting the weights given to these systems. In this paper, we prove that the reweighted convex combination method always provides better performance than the original convex combination method. Performance from the fusion of ADS-B and MLAT improves an average of 51.51% when compared to the original data.

  • This paper covered the design and implementation of the demodulation receiver in the ADS-B 1090ES system, which is one of the CNS/ATM's surveillance systems. This researched demodulation performed at the level required by RTCA DO-268B and EUROCAE ED-129. The single signal process method, which applies a baseline multi-sample technique among multi-amplitude sample demodulations, was suggested to improve the quality of the receiver signal, the dynamic range and so on. The suggested multi-signal level tuning method has enhanced the single-signal process method, reducing the unstable reception ratio by the transmit output level difference and manufacturing receiver hardware. The result was that the receiver suggested by the method had 0~87dBm in dynamic range and -90dBm in MTL. This shows a better performance by -3dBm less than the international standard in ADS-B 1090ES ground receiver equipment. The systems which use a similar modulation method, will be considered to be widely applied.

  • KARI had developed an Local Area Augmentation System for aircraft precision landing as following ICAO SARPs(Standards and Recommended Practices) draft and FAA's recommended algorithm( carrier smoothing techniques). JPO in charge of managing GPS has introduced the signal structure of GPS modernization program. This paper estimates the accuracy performance of KARI-LAAS with modernized GPS signal but the same processing algorithm.
