Liver cancer is the most fatal cancer that occurs worldwide. In order to diagnose liver cancer, the patient's physical condition was checked by using a CT technique using radiation. Segmentation was needed to diagnose the liver on the patient's abdominal CT scan, which the radiologists had to do manually, which caused tremendous time and human mistakes. In order to automate, researchers attempted segmentation using image segmentation algorithms in computer vision field, but it was still time-consuming because of the interactive based and the setting value. To reduce time and to get more accurate segmentation, researchers have begun to attempt to segment the liver in CT images using CNNs, which show significant performance in various computer vision fields. The pixel value, or numerical value, of the CT image is called the Hounsfield Unit (HU) value, which is a relative representation of the transmittance of radiation, and usually ranges from about -2000 to 2000. In general, deep learning researchers reduce or limit this range and use it for training to remove noise and focus on the target organ. Here, we observed that the range of HU values was limited in many studies but different in various liver segmentation studies, and assumed that performance could vary depending on the HU range. In this paper, we propose the possibility of considering HU value range as a hyper parameter. U-Net and ResUNet were used to compare and experiment with different HU range limit preprocessing of CHAOS dataset under limited conditions. As a result, it was confirmed that the results are different depending on the HU range. This proves that the range limiting the HU value itself can be a hyper parameter, which means that there are HU ranges that can provide optimal performance for various models.

With the in-depth development of machine learning, the deep learning method has made great progress, especially with the Convolution Neural Network(CNN). Compared with traditional text sentiment classification methods, deep learning based CNNs have made great progress in text classification and processing of complex multi-label and multi-classification experiments. However, there are also problems with the neural network for text sentiment classification. In this paper, we propose a fusion model based on Long-Short Term Memory networks(LSTM) and CNN deep learning methods, and applied to multi-category news datasets, and achieved good results. Experiments show that the fusion model based on deep learning has greatly improved the precision and accuracy of text sentiment classification. This method will become an important way to optimize the model and improve the performance of the model.

Steganalysis is a technique that aims to detect and recover data hidden by steganography. Steganalytic methods detect hidden data by analyzing visual and statistical distortions caused during data embedding. However, for recovering the hidden data, they need to know which steganographic methods the hidden data has been embedded by. Therefore, we propose a hierarchical convolutional neural network (CNN) structure that identifies a steganographic method applied to an input image through multi-level classification. We trained four base CNNs (each is a binary classifier that determines whether or not a steganographic method has been applied to an input image or which of two different steganographic methods has been applied to an input image) and connected them hierarchically. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed hierarchical CNN structure can identify four different steganographic methods (LSB, PVD, WOW, and UNIWARD) with an accuracy of 79%.
In image classification, recent CNNs compete with human performance. However, there are limitations in more general recognition. Herein we deal with indoor images that contain too much information to be directly processed and require information reduction before recognition. To reduce the amount of data processing, typically variational inference or variational Bayesian methods are suggested for object detection. However, these methods suffer from the difficulty of marginalizing over the given space. In this study, we propose an image-text integrated recognition system using active vision based on Spatial Transformer Networks. The system attempts to efficiently sample a partial region of a given image for a given language information. Our experimental results demonstrate a significant improvement over traditional approaches. We also discuss the results of qualitative analysis of sampled images, model characteristics, and its limitations.
Deep learning using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) is being studied in various fields of image recognition and these studies show excellent performance. In this paper, we compare the performance of CNN architectures, KCR-AlexNet and KCR-GoogLeNet. The experimental data used in this paper is obtained from PHD08, a large-scale Korean character database. It has 2,187 samples of each Korean character with 2,350 Korean character classes for a total of 5,139,450 data samples. In the training results, KCR-AlexNet showed an accuracy of over 98% for the top-1 test and KCR-GoogLeNet showed an accuracy of over 99% for the top-1 test after the final training iteration. We made an additional Korean character dataset with fonts that were not in PHD08 to compare the classification success rate with commercial optical character recognition (OCR) programs and ensure the objectivity of the experiment. While the commercial OCR programs showed 66.95% to 83.16% classification success rates, KCR-AlexNet and KCR-GoogLeNet showed average classification success rates of 90.12% and 89.14%, respectively, which are higher than the commercial OCR programs' rates. Considering the time factor, KCR-AlexNet was faster than KCR-GoogLeNet when they were trained using PHD08; otherwise, KCR-GoogLeNet had a faster classification speed.
Recently, various approaches to detect network attacks using machine learning have been studied and are being applied to detect new attacks and to increase precision. However, the machine learning method is dependent on feature extraction and takes a long time and complexity. It also has limitation of performace due to learning data imbalance. In this study, we propose a method to solve the degradation of classification performance due to imbalance of learning data among the limit points of detection system. To do this, we generate data using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and propose a classification method using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). Through this approach, we can confirm that the accuracy is improved when applied to the NSL-KDD and UNSW-NB15 datasets.

Globally road transport networks are subjected to continuous levels of stress from increasing loading and environmental effects. As the most popular mean of transport in the UK the condition of this civil infrastructure is a key indicator of economic growth and productivity. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems can provide a valuable insight to the true condition of our aging infrastructure. In particular, monitoring of the displacement of a bridge structure under live loading can provide an accurate descriptor of bridge condition. In the past B-WIM systems have been used to collect traffic data and hence provide an indicator of bridge condition, however the use of such systems can be restricted by bridge type, assess issues and cost limitations. This research provides a non-contact low cost AI based solution for vehicle classification and associated bridge displacement using computer vision methods. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been adapted to develop the QUBYOLO vehicle classification method from recorded traffic images. This vehicle classification was then accurately related to the corresponding bridge response obtained under live loading using non-contact methods. The successful identification of multiple vehicle types during field testing has shown that QUBYOLO is suitable for the fine-grained vehicle classification required to identify applied load to a bridge structure. The process of displacement analysis and vehicle classification for the purposes of load identification which was used in this research adds to the body of knowledge on the monitoring of existing bridge structures, particularly long span bridges, and establishes the significant potential of computer vision and Deep Learning to provide dependable results on the real response of our infrastructure to existing and potential increased loading.

By using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) based on semantic segmentation, road surface damage detection has being studied. In order to generate the CNN model, it is essential to collect the input and the corresponding labeled images. Unfortunately, such collecting pairs of the dataset requires a great deal of time and costs. In this paper, we proposed a road surface damage detection technique based on semi-supervised learning using pseudo labels to mitigate such problem. The model is updated by properly mixing labeled and unlabeled datasets, and compares the performance against existing model using only labeled dataset. As a subjective result, it was confirmed that the recall was slightly degraded, but the precision was considerably improved. In addition, the $F_1-score$ was also evaluated as a high value.

In this paper, a deep learning-based detection and classification using multi-band frequency signals is presented for detecting earthquakes prevalent in Korea. Based on an analysis of the previous earthquakes in Korea, it is observed that multi-band signals are appropriate for classifying earthquake signals. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a deep CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) using multi-band signals as training data. The proposed algorithm extracts the multi-band signals (Low/Medium/High frequency) by applying band pass filters to mel-spectrum of earthquake signals. Then, we construct three CNN architecture pipelines for extracting features and classifying the earthquake signals by a late fusion of the three CNNs. We validate effectiveness of the proposed method by performing various experiments for classifying the domestic earthquake signals detected in 2018.

The whole world now is dealing with Coronavirus, and it has turned to be one of the most widespread and long-lived pandemics of our times. Reports reveal that the infectious disease has taken toll of the almost 80% of the world's population. Amidst a lot of research going on with regards to the prediction on growth and transmission through Symptomatic carriers of the virus, it can't be ignored that pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic carriers also play a crucial role in spreading the reach of the virus. Classification Algorithm has been widely used to classify different types of COVID-19 carriers ranging from simple feature-based classification to Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). This research paper aims to present a novel technique using a Random Forest Machine learning algorithm with hyper-parameter tuning to classify different types COVID-19-carriers such that these carriers can be accurately characterized and hence dealt timely to contain the spread of the virus. The main idea for selecting Random Forest is that it works on the powerful concept of "the wisdom of crowd" which produces ensemble prediction. The results are quite convincing and the model records an accuracy score of 99.72 %. The results have been compared with the same dataset being subjected to K-Nearest Neighbour, logistic regression, support vector machine (SVM), and Decision Tree algorithms where the accuracy score has been recorded as 78.58%, 70.11%, 70.385,99% respectively, thus establishing the concreteness and suitability of our approach.
