Study on Spindle Motor's Power-Factor and Frictional Characteristics For Cutting Force Monitoring in a CNC Machine (CNC 공작기계의 절삭력 감지를 위한 주축모터의 역률 및 마찰특성에 관한 연구)

  • Real-time monitoring and control of the cutting force is essential for unmanned cutting process. Although the cutting force can be measured directly using tool dynamometers, their implementation is not feasible in industry due to high cost. Alternative approach is the cutting force estimation based on spindle drive models, but it requires the knowledge of their characteristics with the spindle speed variation. This paper investigates the power-factor and frictional characteristics of three-phase induction motors and determines its characteristics below and above the base speed, respectively. In order to realize the proposed cutting force monitoring system, a stand-alone DSP board was utilized. Its monitoring and control performance is evaluated in a CNC lathe.

  • In CNC machining, a 3D(3-dimension) linear segment and a 2D(2-dimension) circular arc are general forms given by CAD/CAM system. Generally, the 2D circular arc machining is processed using dividing into some linear segments. A 3D circular arc also don't exist in the standard form of NC data. This paper present a algorithm and method for real-time machining of a circular arc(not only the 2D one, but also the 3D one). The 3D circular arc machining is based on the 2D circular arc machining. It only needs making a new coordinate system, converting given 3D points(a start point, a end point, and a center point of a 3D circular arc) into points of the new coordinate system, and processing a inverse transformation about a interpolated point. The proposed algorithm was implemented and simulated on PC system. It was confirmed to give a gcod result.

  • Generally, the envelope of a freeform building is composed of a structure made with rectangular or C-shaped steel pipe, and steel or aluminum panel finishes on the structure. However, these construction methods increase material loss and cost and time. There are also numerous cases of misunderstanding of design and difficulties in construction, which frequently cause construction errors. Such construction errors decrease construction productivity, resulting in poor construction quality and the need for rework, as well as cost and time overruns. To solve the problem, this study proposes a 3D coordinate control technology for freeform structure implemented through a CNC(Computerized Numerical Control) Twisted tube method, and by extension, develops a BIM-based envelope construction method for freeform building.

  • The fault analysis of the CNC machine tool which is controlled sequentially by PLC is generally based on ladder diagram. When machine tool has faults, it takes a lot of operator's experiences and times to identify logical relationship because ladder diagram is a step structured language. Therefore the technologies of finding out fault reasons automatically is necessary. In this paper, the SFG(Switching Function Generator) system is developed to analysis fault reasons correctly. The SF(Switching Function) and SSF(Step Switching Function) generated from SFG based on ladder diagram are experimented to identify the performance of SFG.

  • A new approach based on vector field clustering for tool path optimization of 5-axis CNC machining is presented in this paper. The strategy of the approach is to produce an efficient tool path with respect to the optimal cutting direction vector field. The optimal cutting direction maximizes the machining strip width. We use the normalized cut clustering technique to partition the vector field into clusters. The spiral and the zigzag patterns are then applied to generate tool path on the clusters. The iso-scallop method is used for calculating the tool path. Finally, our numerical examples and real cutting experiment show that the tool path generated by the proposed method is more efficient than the tool path generated by the traditional iso-parametric method.

  • This paper on analysis of roundness error after boring turning of Al-6061 materials with CNC lathe. Experiment applying turning parameters is based on experimental design method. A design and analysis of experiments is conducted to study the effects of these parameters on the roundness error using the S/N ratio and analysis of ANOVA. Multiple linear regression analysis is applied to compare experimental with predicted data in consideration of roundness error. To fixation pressure and the opening which are a turning parameter, the cutting depth and feed speed respected the objective attainment of dissertation and to be applied the result they investigated.

  • There are two important variables in machining process control, which are feed and cutting speed. In this work, a two degree-of-freedom controller is designed and implemented to achieve on-line cutting force control and position control based on the modelling of cutting process dynamics which are established through step response test. Two schemes are proposed and implemented. The first is feed control under the constant spindle speed and spindle speed control under the constant feed speed. The second is a simultaneous control of feed and spindle speed. The last performs a position control under the constant cutting force. Those are confirmed to work properly. Especially the latter shows a faster response.

  • This paper introduces the machine tools feed system, which can be optimized the control's performance through simulation and the adjustment of the mechanical components. One method simulates the frequency response of the speed-loop with the design value using the MATLAB application, so that all of the interpolation axis can be equal to the response bandwidth, resulting in a high accuracy rate. The other method sees the mechanical component being adjusted by analyzing the results of various experiments. Lastly, this client's program is able to change the parameters that are related to the FFD, as well as the parameters in the friction compensation of the OPEN-CNC.

  • In order to remain competitive, a manufacturing company needs to maintain the optimal condition of its manufacturing system. Machine tools as an important element of a manufacturing system consist of complex mechanical as well as electronic components. Therefore, diagnosing the troubles of machine tools is a tricky process which requires a lot of experience and knowledge. Since providing machine tool users with necessary services at the right time is very difficult and expensive, a remote diagnosis system is to be regarded as a good alternative, with which users can diagnose and fix the machine troubles. This paper presents a framework for a remote machine tools diagnosis system by combining the world wide web technology and backward reasoning expert system.
