  • The machining accuracy is affected by geometric, volumetric errors of the machine tools. To improve the product quality, we need to enhance the machining accuracy of the machine tools. To this point of view, measurement and inspection of finished part as error analysis of machine tools ahas been studied for last several decades. This paper suggests the enhancement method of machining accuracy for precision machining of high quality metal reflection mirror or optics lens, etc. In this paper, we study 1) the compensation of linear pitch error with NC controller compensation function using laser interferometer measurement, 2) the method for enhancing the accuracy of NC milling machining by modeling and compensation of volumetric error, 3) the spherical surface manufacturing by modeling and compensation of volumetric error of the machine tool, 4) the system development of OMM without detaching work piece from a bed of machine tool after working, 5) the generation of the finished part profile by OMM. Furthermore, the output of OMM is compared with that of CMM, and verified the feasibility of the measurement system.

  • A geometric compensation of thin-walled molded parts in reverse engineering is presented. Researches in reverse engineering have focused on the fitting of points to curves and surfaces. However, the reconstructed model is not the geometric model because the molded parts have some dimensional errors in measurements and deformation during molding. Geometric information can give an improved accuracy in reverse engineering. Thus, measurement data must be compensated with geometric information to reconstruct the mathematical model. The functional and geometric concepts of the part can be derived from geometric information. LSM (Least square method) is adopted to determine the geometric information. Also, an example of geometric compensation is given to improve the accuracy of geometric model and to inspect the reconstructed model.

  • This paper presents studies on curvature radius measurement using the laser interferometer. It is a general practice to measure to $10^{-10}$m in length with the recent improvement and innovations in measurement technology and the processor used. The measurement methods can generally be categorized as these two: the contactual method and non-contactual method; and in this study, we will find ways to lower the cost for a CMM, or a coordinate measurement machine, and try to find an alternative. Furthermore, we will discuss some of the ways to improve the non-contactual measurement methods-optical interferometer method and the optical triangulation method. We will measure an object using a laser distance measuring device and Set the Point-contact result with the ball-bearing type and line-contact result with the bearing type, to decide on which probe type will be used.

  • The Volumetric Interferometer using two spherical wavefronts emitted from the ends of two single mode fibers has been suggested to measure 3-dimensional absolute coordinates. In this paper, we try to improve the performance of the volumetric interferometer using multi-CCDs. We get coordinates matching matrixes between CCDs and can obtain more information in the space with multi-CCDs. Also we find out the best arrangement of multi-CCDs by computer simulations. In the simulation we can know that it will be better to increase the distance between CCDs to improve performance. For the performance test, we do a repeatability test, a comparison test with 2-D stage and the self-calibration using artifact.

  • Ensuring the quality of molds is one of the major issues in mass production. In general, securing the quality of the molds is achieved by repeating grinding and die spotting after machining the molds based on engineer's decision. However, this heuristic method is affected by the engineer's skill and working environment. Therefore, a lot of time and resources are needed in order to ensure quality. In this study, ensuring the quality of molds using grinding map which is generated using automatic measurement is proposed. An automatic measuring system based on CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) is developed for measuring the molds. This system generates the measurement path automatically using the 3D CAD model of products. CAD (ComputerAided-Design), CAM (Computer-Aided-Manufacturing), and CAQ (Computer-Aided-Quality) technology is integrated using DMIS (Dimensional Measuring Interface Standard) format in the automatic measuring system. After measuring the molds, a grinding map is generated using the gap between the CAD model and measured values of mold. The grinding map displays the machining tendency and the required amount of grinding with values on a 3D map. Therefore, the quality of molds can be ensured with exactness and quickness based on the grinding map. This study shows that integrating the planning, measuring, and analyzing based on computer technology can solve the problem of quality assurance of mold using the proposed method, therefore the productivity can be increased.

  • A force/torque sensor using carbon fiber plate was designed and developed to make the sensor be able to measure a wide range of multi degree of force and torque. Using carbon fiber plate of 0.3 mm thickness, the sensor was designed and developed, which has a ${\mu}N$ level order of resolution and about 0.01 N ~ 390 N of wide measurement range. The elastic deformation part has a tripod plate structure and strain gauges are attached on the part to detect the force/torque. The coefficient of determination for the sensor is over 0.955 by the calibration experiment so that the linearity of the sensor is confirmed to be good. Also, experiments on applying 0.005 ~ 40 kg (0.05 ~ 390 N) to each axis were implemented and the sensor is proved to be safe under a high load. Finally, to verify the function calculating the direction of load vector, the directions of various load vectors which have the same magnitude but different directions and the directions of the calculated load vectors are compared and analyzed to accord well.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study is to present a methodology to evaluate the accuracy of intraoral scanners (IOS) used in vivo. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A specific feature-based gauge was designed, manufactured, and measured in a coordinate measuring machine (CMM), obtaining reference distances and angles. Then, 10 scans were taken by an IOS with the gauge in the patient's mouth and from the obtained stereolithography (STL) files, a total of 40 distances and 150 angles were measured and compared with the gauge's reference values. In order to provide a comparison, there were defined distance and angle groups in accordance with the increasing scanning area: from a short span area to a complete-arch scanning extension. Data was analyzed using software for statistical analysis. RESULTS. Deviations in measured distances showed that accuracy worsened as the scanning area increased: trueness varied from 0.018 ± 0.021 mm in a distance equivalent to the space spanning a four-unit bridge to 0.106 ± 0.08 mm in a space equivalent to a complete arch. Precision ranged from 0.015 ± 0.03 mm to 0.077 ± 0.073 mm in the same two areas. When analyzing angles, deviations did not show such a worsening pattern. In addition, deviations in angle measurement values were low and there were no calculated significant differences among angle groups. CONCLUSION. Currently, there is no standardized procedure to assess the accuracy of IOS in vivo, and the results show that the proposed methodology can contribute to this purpose. The deviations measured in the study show a worsening accuracy when increasing the length of the scanning area.
