This paper handles the repairing of deficient square Concrete-Filled Steel-Tube (CFST) beams subject to bending through an experimental and numerical program. Eight square-CFST beams were tested. A 5-mm artificial notch was induced at mid-span of seven beams, four of them were repaired by using CFRP sheets and two were repaired by using GFRP sheets. The beam deflection, strain and ultimate moments were recorded. It was found that providing different cut-off points for the different layers of FRP sheets prohibited failure at termination points due to stress concentrations. Using different lengths of FRP sheets around the notch retarded crack propagation and prevented FRP rupture at the crack position. Finite element analysis was then conducted and the proposed FE model was verified against the recorded experimental data. The influence of various parameters as FRP sheet length, tensile modulus and the number of layers were studied. The moment capacity of damaged square-CFST beams was improved up to 77.6% when repaired by using four layers of CFRP, however, this caused a dramatic decrease in beam deflection. U-wrapping of notched-CFST beam with 0.75 of its length provided a comparable behaviour as wrapping the full length of the beam.

The p-version nonlinear finite element model has been developed to analyze the nonlinear behavior of simply supported RC slabs strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced plastic sheets. The shape function is adopted with integral of Legendre polynomials. The compression model of concrete is based on the Kupfer's yield criterion, hardening rule, and crushing condition. The cracking behavior is modeled by a smeared crack model. In this study, the fixed crack approach is adopted as being geometrically fixed in direction once generated. Each steel layer has a uniaxial behavior resisting only the axial force in the bar direction. Identical behavior is assumed fur tension and compression of steel according to the elastic modulus. The carbon fiber reinforced plastic sheets are considered as reinforced layers of equivalent thickness with uniaxial strength and rigidity properties in the present model. It is shown that the proposed model is able to adequately predicte the displacement and ultimate load of nonlinear simply supported RC slabs by a patch with respect to reinforcement ratio, thickness and angles of CFRP sheets.

In this study, the resistance of various reinforced concrete (RC) slabs subjected to contact detonation was assessed. In order to enhance the blast resistance, fibers and external FRP sheets were reinforced to RC slabs. In the experiment, the $2,000{\times}1,000{\times}100mm$ sized RC slabs were fabricated using normal concrete (NC), steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC), polyvinyl alcohol fiber reinforced cementitious composite (PVA FRCC), and ultra-high performance cementitious composites (UHPCC). The damage levels of RC slabs subjected to contact detonation were evaluated by measuring the diameter and depth of crater, spall and breach. The experimental results were compared to the analyzed data using LS-DYNA program and three different prediction equations. The diameter and depth of crater, spall and breach were able to be predicted using LS-DYNA program approximately. The damage process of RC slabs under blast load was also well expressed. Three prediction equations suggested by other researchers had limitations to apply in terms of empirical approaches, therefore it needs further research to set more analytical considerations.
The analysis and experimental program of reinforced concrete (RC) structures for resistance against such extreme loads as earthquake, blast, and impact have been carried by many researchers and designers. Under the extreme loads, a large amount of energy is suddenly exerted to the structure, hence if the structure fails to absorb the impact energy, catastrophic collapse may occur. To prevent catastrophic collapse of structures, reinforced concrete must have adeguate toughness or it needs to be strengthened. The FRP strengthening method and SFRC are studied widely in resistance of impact load because of their high energy absorption capacity. In this study, drop weight impact tests were implemented to evaluate the impact resistance of SFRC and FRP strengthened RC beam while the total steel fiber volume fractions was fixed at 0.75% carbon FRP flexural strengthened RC beams. Futhermore, to prevent the shear-plug cracks when the impact load strikes the beams, additional FRP shear strengthening method are applied. The experimental, results showed that the FRP strengthened RC SFRC beams has high resistance of shear-plug cracks and crack width and SFRC has high resistance of concrete spalling failure compared to normal RC beams. The FRP flexural and shear strengthening RC beams has weakness in the spalling failure because the impact load concentrated the concrete face which is not strengthened with FRP sheets.
It has been known that debonding failures between CFS(Carbon Fiber Sheet) and concrete in the strengthened RC beams are initiated by the peeling of the sheets in the region of combined large moment and shear forces, being accompanied by the large shear deformation after flexural cracks. These shear deformation effects are seldom occurred in small-scale model tests, but debondings due to the large shear deformation effects are often observed in a full-scale model tests. The premature debonding failure of CFS, therefore, must be avoided to confirm the design strength of full-scale RC beam in strengthening designs. The reinforcing details, so- called 'U-Shape fiber wrap at mid-span' which wrapped the RC flexural members around the webs and tension face at critical section with CFS additionally, were proposed in this study to prevent the debonding of CFS. Other reinforcing detail, so called 'U-Shape fiber wrap at beam end' were included in this tests and comparisons were made between them.

From the result of this research above, it may be summed up as follows. As a summary of results from each experiment, as the test body reinforced with the carbon rods was embedded inside the concrete section and made it possible uniform movement, this study has shown that it had excellent characteristics in improving the flexural strength and ductility. Also, it was considered as the carbon-steel sheet composite plate was to exert the strength more if it would complement the adherence with the concrete.

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) can be bonded to the soffit of a concrete beam as a means of repairing and strengthening the beam. In such beams, materials, concrete and carbon fiber sheets, are different in coefficient of thermal expansion. Consequently, interfacial shear stresses can be increased and debonding failure may occur at the plate ends due to temperature rising. This paper presents a method of approximate closed-form solutions for the interfacial shear stresses and conducts a beam test to compare the numerical results. In case of temperature rising over $30^{\circ}C$, interfacial stress of 0.91MPa is occurred at the end of sheet. Therefore, using carbon fiber sheet for strengthening the concrete beam, it is necessary to consider the thermal effects and to evaluate the long time behavior of the concrete beam by temperature change.

Substantial experimental and theoretical work exists on the bond characteristics of FRP-concrete adhesive joints. Experimental studies show that the bond strength cannot always increase with an increase in the bond length, and that the ultimate strength is strongly influenced by the concrete strength. To solve this feature, analytic solutions based on fracture mechanics are widely used, and the local shear stress-slip curve with a softening branch is known as more rational model. The analytic solution, however, cannot describe various shapes of model curve. In this study, numerical method using interface element is introduced to express various shapes of model curve. Characteristics of adhesive joint is investigated for the shapes of the model curve and their parameters. And the numerical solutions are compared with the test results of CFRP sheet adhesive joints.

Substantial experimental and theoretical work exists on the bond characteristics of FRP-concrete adhesive joints. Analytic solutions based on fracture mechanics are most commonly accepted for theoretical work on joint. The solutions may be derived for the simple form of the shear strees-slip curve. And it is difficult to determine the model parameters consisting the curve. In this study, the bilinear curve with softening branch is introduced. The model parameters are determined by the method described by the companion paper with comparison of test results. There are many uncertainties in the test results of CFRP sheet adhesive joints, so that test results used for the construction of the regression problem should be reasonably selected.
In order to study the ductility and the lateral load carrying capacity of the masonry walls strengthened with CFRPs (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer sheets), three pieces of masonry walls subjected to cyclic loads with low frequency and vertical load of constant amplitude have been tested. Two different strengthening methods have been used. The strengthening efficiency is affected by the strengthening method. A simplified calculation approach has been introduced based on the experimental test results, and the theoretical results agree reasonably well with the experimental results. It is found that the critical loads, the critical displacements, the ultimate loads, the ultimate displacements and the ductile coefficients of the masonry walls strengthened with CFRPs improve remarkably (6%~57%). Therefore, the masonry structures strengthened with CFRPs are of better ductility and of better lateral load carrying capacity than the masonry structures without any strengthening measurements.
