CFD APPLICATION TO THE REGULATORY ASSESSMENT OF FAC-CAUSED CANDU FEEDER PIPE WALL THINNING ISSUE

  • Flow fields inside feeder pipes have been simulated numerically using a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) code to calculate the shear stress distribution, which is the most important factor in predicting the local regions of feeder pipes highly susceptible to FAC (flow-accelerated corrosion)-induced wall thinning. The CFD approach, with schemes used in this study, to simulate the flow situations inside the CANDU feeder pipes has been verified as it showed a good agreement between the investigation results for the failed feedwater pipe at Surry unit 2 plant in the U.S. and the CFD calculation. Sensitivity studies of the three geometrical parameters, such as angle of the first and second bends, length of the first span between the grayloc hub and the first bend, and length of the second span between the first and the second bends have been performed. CFD analysis reveals that the local regions of feeder pipes of Wolsung unit 1 in Korea, on which wall thickness measurements have been performed so far, are not coincident with the worst regions predicted by the present CFD analysis located in the connection region of straight and bend pipe near the inlet part of the bend intrados. Finally, based on the results of the present CFD analysis, a guide to the selection of the weakest local positions where the measurement of wall thickness should be performed with higher priority has been provided.

상용 및 오픈소스 CFD 코드를 이용한 EFD-CFD 워크샵 Case 3 해석 (CFD Analysis of EFD-CFD Workshop Case 3 using Commercial and Open Source CFD codes)

  • EFD-CFD 워크샵 중 Case3인 RAE Wing A 형상에 대해 전산유체역학 해석을 수행하였다. 해석자로 3개의 상용 CFD 해석 코드(Star-CCM+, Fluent, CFX)와 오픈 소스 CFD 코드(SU2)를 사용하였다. 격자는 상용 격자 생성 코드인 Pointwise를 이용하여 격자의 수에 따라 4가지를 생성하였다. 마하수 0.4, 0.8에서 는 받음각 2도, 마하수 0.9에서 받음각 1도에서 해석하였다. coarse격자부터 fine 격자까지는 압력계수 곡선과 수직력 계수는 비슷한 결과를 보였으나 항력 계수에서는 차이가 있었다. Star-CCM+과 Fluent의 해석에서 차분법의 차수가 높을수록 충격파의 위치를 앞으로 예측하였다. 수렴에 다다르는 계산시간은 Fluent, Star-CCM+, CFX의 순으로 나타났고 SU2는 이에 비해 수렴하는데 많은 시간이 들었다.

  • A successful store separation analysis tool, MSAP(Multi-body Separation Analysis Program) has been applied to F/A-18C/JDAM CFD Challenge Ⅱ. The challenge was devised to challenge CFD community to use CFD methodologies to predict and match the trajectory of a JDAM MK-84 separating from F/A-l8C. Trajectory simulations for two flight conditions were performed. Comparison between computed and measured flight trajectories for both conditions shows a good agreement.

CFD 해석을 이용한 현장 열응답 시험의 출구온도 예측 (The Outlet Temperature Prediction of In-Situ Thermal Response Test using CFD Analysis)

  • 지열원 히트펌프 시스템에서 지중 열교환기 설계를 위해 수행하는 현장 열응답 시험은 많은 시간과 비용이 수반되기 때문에 조건 변화에 따른 출구온도 예측이 어려운 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 국내에서 주로 사용하는 수직형 지중 열교환기의 열전달 성능을 예측하기 위한 방안으로 3차원 CFD 해석 기법을 제안하고, 2개소의 현장 열응답 시험의 출구온도와 기울기 값을 비교하여 CFD 해석 방법의 신뢰성을 확인하였다. CFD 해석 결과, 2개소의 현장 열응답 시험의 출구온도는 $0.5^{\circ}C$ 이내에서 예측하였고, 기울기 값은 1.6% 이내에서 적절히 예측하였다. 이를 통해 CFD 해석 방법의 신뢰성을 확인하고, 2개소의 현장 열응답 시험의 유량 및 지중 유효 열전도도 조건을 각각 ${\pm}20%$ 변화시키면서 현장 열응답 시험의 출구온도를 예측하였다. 첫 번째 현장(Case 1)의 경우 유량 변화에 따라 $28.0^{\circ}C$(-20%)와 $29.6^{\circ}C$(+20%), 지중 유효 열전도도 변화에 따라 $29.6^{\circ}C$(-20%)와 $28.0^{\circ}C$(+20%)로 현장 열응답 시험의 출구온도를 예측하였으며, 두 번째 현장(Case 2)의 경우 유량 변화에 따라 $28.4^{\circ}C$(-20%)와 $29.8^{\circ}C$(+20%), 지중 유효 열전도도 변화에 따라 $29.7^{\circ}C$(-20%)와 $28.4^{\circ}C$(+20%)로 현장 열응답 시험의 출구온도를 각각 예측하였다.

  • This paper presents the state of the art of computational structures technology(CST) and comparison of two computational mechanics - CST and CFD, to the CFD engineers. Classical mechanics is based on the five classical axioms which describe the motion and behaviors of the continuum materials like solid structures and fluids. Computational structures technology uses the finite element method to solve the governing equation, whereas finite volume method is generally used in CFD. A few famous commercial structural analysis programs and DIAMOND/IPSAP will be introduced. DIAMOND/IPSAP is the efficient parallel structural analysis package developed by our research team. DIAMOND/IPSAP shows the better performance than the commercial structural analysis software not only in the parallel computing environments but also in a single computer.

CFD를 사용한 비접촉식 가스 실의 입구 선회류 영향 해석 (Analysis of Pre-Swirl Effect for Plain-Gas Seal Using CFD)

  • In present 3D CFD study, the method for determining leakage and rotordynamic coefficients of a plain-gas seal is suggested by using the relative coordinate system for steady-state simulation. In order to find the effect of pre-swirl speed at seal inlet, pre-swirl velocity is included as a parameter. Present analysis is verified by comparison with results acquired from Bulk-flow analysis code and published experimental results. The results of 3D CFD rotordynamic coefficients of direct stiffness(K) and cross-coupled stiffness(k) show improvements in prediction. As pre-swirl speed at seal inlet increases, k also increases to destabilize system. However, pre-swirl speed at seal inlet does not show sensitivity to the leakage and rotordynamic coefficients of K and damping(C).

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis was carried out to investigate exhaust gas flow and acoustic characteristics in the exhaust system of a passenger car. Transient 3-dimensional flow field in the front and rear mufflers was simulated by CFD and far-field sound pressure was modeled by a simple monopole source method. Engine performance simulation was also performed to obtain the boundary condition of instantaneous fluid flow variation at the inlet of the exhaust system. Detailed exhaust gas flow characteristics such as velocity and pressure distribution inside the mufflers were presented and the pulsating pressure amplitude was compared at several positions in the exhaust system to deduce sound pressure level. The present method of the acoustic analysis coupled with CFD techniques would be very effective for the prediction of sound noise from vehicle exhaust systems although the effects of the inlet boundary condition and heat transfer on the accuracy of the prediction have to be validated through further studies.

유압 완층기 내에서의 오일 유동에 대한 CFD 해석 (A CFD Analysis of the Oil Flow in a Hydraulic Shock Absorber)

  • Various types of hydraulic shock absorbers are widely used in many fields because of its numerous advantages. However, in order to design adequate damping characteristics, accurate flow data near the orifices are required essentially. In this paper, a commercial computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code, FLUENT is adopted to investigate the flow characteristics near orifices of a shock absorber. Static pressure and velocity vector distributions, fluid path lines are presented for compression/tension strokes and various piston speeds. In order to validate the result of analysis, the numerically obtained damping forces are compared with those of analytical estimations obtained by modified Bernoulli equation. The results reported herein will provide better understanding of the detailed flow fields within shock absorber, and the CFD analysis method proposed in this paper can be used in the design of other types of hydraulic shock absorber.

  • This paper is a study about characteristics of the SSC-1 nozzle, which is used in a fire extinguishing system in a ship. Through this paper, we can find that the traces and elements’ distributions obtained from experiments are as the same as the simulation analysis results of CFD program. At the point of 100mm, the $\alpha$ is 34.9 in the CFD analysis, and it is 32.5 in the experiment. This shows that there is no big different between the CFD analysis and the experiment result. And the average elements velocity is similar to the SMD.
