Effects of CEO's Self-Determination on Start-up Entrepreneurship and Business Performance in Service and Distribution SMEs

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of CEO's self-determination on entrepreneurship, business performance (operational and financial performance). Also, this research provide some strategic insights for improving business performance. In the proposed model, self-determination consists of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, and entrepreneurship consists of innovation, initiative and risk sensitivity, and proactiveness. More specifically, this study proposes a framework that entrepreneurship and operational performance will play mediating roles between self-determination and financial performance. Research design, data, methodology: In this study, an online survey was conducted on SME CEOs for analysis, and a total of 122 samples were used. In the analysis process for hypothesis verification and evaluation, frequency analysis was first performed to identify the demographic characteristics of the respondents, and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to assess the reliability and validity of the measurement model. In addition, a structural model analysis was conducted to examine the structural relationships between CEO's self-determination, entrepreneurship, and business performance (operational and financial performance) using SmartPLS 3.0. Results: The findings and summary are as follows. First, the autonomy of self-determination has a positive effect on entrepreneurship. Second, the competence of self-determination affects entrepreneurship and operational performance. Third, it affects the innovation, initiative and risk sensitivity of the CEO's entrepreneurship, and ultimately, its operational performance. The results show that the business performance of Start-up also increases when self-determination can be a factor in increasing entrepreneurship in three sub-dimensionalities. Conclusions: The conclusion of this study is that in order for SMEs to develop into a sustainable company by securing competitiveness after start-up, external motivation such as external help and support from the state (local government) is important, but competence and relationship, which are components of self-determination. The intrinsic motivation of the CEO may be more important. To this end, CEO's should prioritize learning for competency development, and the government should pay attention to providing various educational programs through establishment of education policies and education systems to enhance the competency of start-up CEO's.

최고경영자의 품질경영 레토릭과 시청자 반응: 삼성 회장의 '초일류' 발언을 중심으로 (CEO's Quality Management Rhetoric and Audience Response: Focusing on Samsung Group Chairman Kun-Hee Lee's 'Super-Class' Remarks)

  • 본 연구는 기업 최고경영자가 흔히 사용하는 품질경영 메시지의 수사적 구조와 시청자 반응을 탐구한다. '삼성 회장 이건희 어록' 보도를 분석한 결과는 품질경영에 관한 수사적 구조를 제시한다. 이 구조에서 경영자는 "대외적 위기"라는 '수사적 상황(rhetorical situation)'에 대처하기 위해 "초일류 회사를 위한 품질경영"이라는 '설득적 주제'와 "혁신" "신상필벌"이라는 '실용적 수단'을 제시한다. 발언 영상을 본 대학생 308명의 반응을 다중회귀분석한 결과, 시청자가 보수적일수록, CEO의 매력과 전문성을 지각할수록, CEO의 품질경영 수사를 지지하는 편이었다. 서술형 답변에 따르면, 보수적 시청자는 품질경영 속 '앙트러프러너십(기업가정신)'에 호의적으로 반응하면서 도전과 혁신의 가치에 공감했다. 반면, 상당수 진보적 시청자는 "못하는 사람 누르고" 등 일부 표현을 문제 삼아 발언 전체에 반감을 보였고 평범한 노동자를 소외시키는 '한국형 신자유주의'의 일부로 CEO의 품질경영 레토릭을 인식했다.

대학병원직원의 지식경영활동과 성과에 관한 연구 (Knowledge Management Activity and Performance of University Hospital Employees)

  • Background: The efficient knowledge management in hospital organization is generally known as the important activities relevant to employees' knowledge sharing behavior and work performance. This research examined factors affecting employees' knowledge sharing behavior and work performance in top 4 university hospitals. This study is based on individual factors such as incentives, reciprocity, behavioral control, and subjective norms. Also, there are organizational factors such as CEO support, learning climate, IT system, rewards system, and trust. Methods: Data was collected from employees who are working at 3 hospitals university in Seoul and 1 university hospital in Gyeonggi-Do through the self-administered questionnaires. A total of 779 questionnaires were analyzed by PASW SPSS ver. 18.0. (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Results: The significant variables affecting knowledge sharing behavior are behavioral control (in individual factor) and CEO, IT system, and trust (in organization factor). Also the significant variables affecting work performance are incentives, reciprocity, subjective norms, and behavioral control (in individual factor) and CEO support, IT system, reward system, and trust (in organization factor). Conclusion: The personality and organization characteristics factors is important to improve knowledge sharing behavior and work performance of hospital employees. Therefore, to make more efficient knowledge management is to build and system knowledge sharing culture, system, and leadership and to develop practical strategies.

ERP시스템의 활용이 대학의 업무성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 중국 합비시의 대학교를 중심으로 (A study on Effect of Utilization of ERP system on Business performance: Focusing on China Hefei's Universities)

  • 본 연구에서는 중국대학에 있어 ERP시스템이 업무성과 향상에 있어 영향을 미치는 요인을 추출하고 향후 대학에서의 ERP 시스템의 활용방안을 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 개인적 업무성과분야. ERP에 대한 최고경영자의 관심 및 지원정도가 높을수록 ERP 개인적 성과가 높다. 둘째, 조직적 업무성과분야. 최종 사용자의 시스템 교육이 높을수록 ERP 조직적 성과가 높다. 셋째, CEO의 관심 및 지원정도가 높을수록 ERP시스템의 업무활용적인 경영성과가 높다.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate success factors of knowledge management in Korea companies. The research scheme was experimented through a questionnaire survey answered by 87 companies. The research model was composed of five groups : 1) CEO support and business strategics, 2) organization culture 3) information technology characteristic of knowledge workers 4) a reward and performance measurement 5) knowledge management system. The results of this research indicated that the CEO support and organization culture are important factors for knowledge activities. The information technology characteristic of knowledge workers and a reward have small effects for knowledge activities. Manufacturing companies and non-manufacturing companies need different knowledge management strategies. The results of this study will be helpful for the success implementation of knowledge management in Korean companies.

중소기업에서의 내부마케팅과 구성원들의 점진적 혁신의 관계에 대한 연구 (The relationship between internal marketing and incremental innovation in small business)

  • This paper reviewed the relationship between internal marketing and incremental innovation, and the moderating effect of firm size. The results of hierarchical multiple regression analysis, based on the responses from 322 employees in small business, showed that almost internal marketing factors effects positively on incremental innovation. All internal marketing factors(CEO support, compensation system, education & training, internal communication, authority delegation) appeared to be related positively with process innovation and service innovation. And all other factors(compensation system, education & training, internal communication, authority delegation) except CEO support showed to have positive relationship with operation innovation. In the moderating effects, internal communication effects more positively on incremental innovation in large firm-size than in small firm-size. But delegation effects more positively on incremental innovation in small firm-size than in large firm-size.

  • The purpose of this study is to review the relationship between managerial system and incremental innovation, and the mediating effect of knowledge transfer in small business. In order to verify and achieve the purposes mentioned above, questionnaire data were gathered and analysed from 255 enterprise managers in western Kangwon-do province. Empirical survey's findings are as follows; First, CEO's support and education/training appeared to be positively related with knowledge transfer. Second, managerial system and knowledge transfer appeared to be positively related with incremental innovation. Third, knowledge transfer had mediating effect on the relationships of CEO's support-incremental innovation and education/training-incremental innovation.

공공기관의 정보시스템 아웃소싱에 미치는 영향 요인과 도입 성과 (Influence Factors and the Introducing Outcomes over IT Outsourcing in the Government Offices)

  • 본 연구는 IT 아웃소싱에 미치는 영향요인과 도입성과를 실증적으로 분석하였다. IT 아웃소싱에 미치는 영향 요인은 조직요인(정보시스템 성숙도, CEO의 지원), 거래요인(자산 특수성, 불확실성, 정보시스템의 사용정도), 위험요인(안전성(보안)의 위험, 비용의 증가위험, 자율성 상실의 위험)으로 설정하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 조직요인에서 정보시스템 성숙도와 CEO의 지원요인은 도입성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 변수로 분석되었고, 거래요인에서는 정보시스템 사용정도 변수만이 도입성과에 영향을 미치는 변수로 분석되었으며, 자산의 특수성 요인과 불확실성 요인은 도입성과에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 위험요인에서는 안전성(보안)의 위험, 비용의 증가 위험 요인만이 도입성과에 영향을 미치는 변수로 분석되었고, 자율성 상실의 위험요인은 도입성과에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 분석되었다.

물류기업의 RFID 도입 요인과 물류성과의 관계 연구 (A Study on RFID Adoption and Logistics Performance in Logistics Company)

  • 물류분야에서 RFID 기술의 응용이 확산되면서 RFID 도입 요인과 물류성과와의 관계를 분석할 필요가 있다. 기존 여러 분야의 선행연구를 통하여 RFID 도입이나 채택에 영향을 미치는 요인을 도출하고, 물류기업을 대상으로 이러한 요인이 물류성과에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하고, 그에 대한 시사점을 제시하고자 하였다. 관련 선행연구에서 물류기업이 RFID를 도입하는데 있어 CEO 지원, 기술 우위성, 거래 파트너, 상호 양립성 및 상대적 이익과 같은 요인이 물류성과에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. SCM, 물류 및 유통, 제조분야를 대상으로 한 선행연구를 기초로 연구모형 및 가설을 설정하고, 물류기업 종사자를 대상으로 RFID 도입 요인이 물류성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 탐색적 요인분석, 신뢰성 분석, 확인적 요인분석 및 구조방정식모형 분석을 통해 가설을 검증하였다. 연구 결과, CEO 지원과 거래 파트너의 RFID 도입 요인은 물류성과에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤으며, 상호 양립성과 상대적 이익은 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하였다. 기술 우위성은 물류성과에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났으나 p=0.052라는 것을 고려할 때, 물류성과에 유의한 영향을 미칠 수 있을 것으로 사료되며, 유의수준 0.1에서는 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

고객센터 지식관리시스템 재구축 성공과 활용에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 탐색적 연구: K 보험사 사례를 중심으로 (An Exploratory Study on the Factors Affecting the Success and Utilization of Reestablished Knowledge Management Systems in a Customer Center: Case of K Life Insurance)

  • Knowledge, as a source of firm's competitive edges, has been drawing attention, while numerous enterprises are investing huge amount of assets to foster the right environments for executing knowledge management (KM). As a practical way of such KM, knowledge management systems (KMS) support the creation, diffusion, and utilization of knowledge, which are the tools for practicing such management style. Recently, the customer centers which make the closest contact with the customers are being concerned about the establishment of KMS. Considering the characteristics of real-time problem solving in customer centers during the consultation with the customers, the importance of KMS is paramount to the centers. This study analyzes major factors influencing the success and utilization of the customer center KMS's reestablishment, as an exploratory case study of the reestablishment of KMS in the customer center of K insurance company. First, the characteristic differences between the customer center's KMS and the traditional KMS are discussed, and the triangulation technique is applied to secure objectivity of this case study's findings. Major results of the case study state that, for the success of KMS and improvement of utilization, the followings should be considered preferentially: excellent system quality (accessibility, user convenience, easy searching, speed/menus); high information quality (accuracy, usefulness, timeliness, task-relevance, diversity, degree of specification); appropriate operation strategy and process for the utilization of system (education, training opportunity, appropriate personnel, speed and procedure of approval, compensation/evaluation); and change management via the support from the CEO's level (concern and participation of CEO, will to propel the project, investment, advertisement, etc.). This study provides practical suggestions with respect to factors which should be more carefully dealt with, since still many customer centers have hard time establishing and operating KMS due to lack of previous studies.
