Herein, we report a case of badgers showing high morbidity and mortality rate due to the mixed infection of canine distemper virus (CDV) and Streptococcus canis (S. canis) in a farm where wild animal, badger, is being reared for herbal medicine. During the period of about one month, 120 out of 320 badgers showed severe respiratory symptoms and died, and 3 bodies were submitted to the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency for disease diagnosis. The lung with the most severe necropsy findings failed to collapse and showed dark reddening and had yellowish nodules on the cut surface. The characteristic and common histopathologic findings include multifocal necrosis with hemorrhage of the lung, severe lymphoid depletion of the spleen and intracytoplasmic or intranuclear inclusion bodies in almost all organs. Finally, CDV and S. canis were identified by immunohistochemistry and bacterial isolation, respectively. This is the first mixed infection case of CDV and S. canis in badgers being raised on the farm.

To detect CDV RNA in clinical samples and differentiate prevailing CDV virulent strains affecting susceptible animals from attenuated vaccine strains, we performed RT-PCR, RFLP, and sequencing. CDV specific primers were generated from the middle part of nucleocapsid gene. The expected size of PCR products, 519 bp, was observed in tissues of Jindo dog, poodle dog, badger, fourteen of nineteen blood samples as well as 5 vaccine strains including domestic and imported products. The PCR products obtained from tissues and PBMCs of infected animals were digested to 317- and 202-bp fragments by Bam HI, but the products obtained from four of five vaccine strains and Lederle strain were not digesed by Bam HI. Only one vaccine strain of which the PCR products were digested by Bam HI was confirmed as imported vaccine, modified Synider Hill strain. Based on seqencing data obtained from the 519-bp products, it was confirmed that Bam HI restriction site tends to be conserved in field isolates compared to the commercially available attenuated vaccine strains. Partial nucleotide sequences of CDV NP gene obtained from tissues of Jindo dog, poodle and badger shared 100% homology each other, whereas the nucleotide sequences showed 96.3, 96.5, 93.6 and 93.4% homology with Yanaka (virulent), Han95 (virulent), Lederle (attenuated) and Onderstepoort (attenuated) strain, respectively.

In this paper, we proposed the MAC protocol of APON supporting multi-class traffic such as CBBUVBR, ABR, UBR, to guarantee the required QoS of each service. For this, we analyze the performance of variousrequest mechanisms and employee the different request mechanism for each traffic classes. Upstream anddownstream frame structures to minimize transmission overhead are proposed based on our request mechanism. The proposed MAC protocol applies the different priority to permit distribution process. CBBWBR traffic, withthe stringent requirements on CDV or delay, is allocated prior to any other class. ABR traffic, which hasnon-strict CDV or delay criteria, uses flexibly the available bandwidth but ensures a minimum cell rate (MCR).UBR traffic is allocated with lowest priority for the remaining capacity. The performance of proposed protocol isevaluated in terms of transfer delay and 1-point CDV with various offered load. The result of simulation showsthat the proposed protocol guarantees the required QoS of the corresponding category, while making use of theavailable resources in both an efficient and dynamical way.
Canine distemper virus (CDV), canine adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2), canine parvovirus (CPV), and canine parainfluenza virus 5 (CPIV-5) are the major viral pathogens in dogs. Despite the availability of vaccines for dogs against these 4 viral pathogens, investigations of antibodies against these pathogens have rarely been reported in South Korea. In this study, we investigated the recent incidence of viral diseases in dogs and conducted sero-surveillance for CDV, CAV-2, CPV, and CPIV-5 in Korean dogs. The most frequently diagnosed canine viral disease in Korean dog samples from 2000 to 2022 was CPV infection, which accounted for 48.7% (464/953) of the cases. A total of 400 dog serum samples collected between 2019 and 2022 were screened for the presence of virus-neutralizing antibodies against CDV, CAV-2, CPV, and CPIV-5. The overall seropositivity rates for CDV, CAV-2, CPV, and CPIV-5 were 83.8%, 77.8%, 99.3%, and 82.0%, respectively. The protection rate against CPV was the highest (98.3%) and that against CAV-2 was the lowest (44.8%) in dog sera. Male and female dogs showed no significant differences in seropositivity rates. CDV and CPIV-5 seropositivity increased with age in dogs, and the highest incidence and seropositivity rates of CPV indicated that Korean dogs have been continuously exposed to wild CPV, and that CPV is a pathogen that urgently requires attention among canine viral diseases.

To characterize the recent outbreaks of canine distemper (CD) in Korea, we carried out epidemiological investigations by clinical observations, serum neutralizing (SN) antibody titer determination and RT-PCR on the 315 dogs which were clinically suspected as canine distemper virus (CDV) infection. One hundred and sixty two of 315 dogs were infected with CDV. Breed or gender did not seem to have effects on the prevalence of CD. The major part of dogs were in young age from 6 weeks to 18 weeks of age, and were not vaccinated or incompletely vaccinated. Clinical signs of dogs with CD were multi systemic and extremely variable. Dogs died from CD had significantly more ocular signs and neurologic signs than those of dogs survived (p<0.05). The SN titers against CDV of 157 (96.9%) dogs were under 1:16, which is less than protective level. One possible explanation for recent outbreaks of CD in Korea might be low antibody titers against CDV because of vaccination failure. Therefore, to reduce the impact of virulent infection in the dog population, dogs should be vaccinated adequately and prophylactic measures should include isolation of young dogs from the dog population until vaccination can be expected to provide protection.
There were outbreaks of canine distemper in Korea from the late 1990's to the early 2000's even though modified live CDV vaccines had been used as the same way as before. The present study was undertaken to investigate the levels of neutralizing antibodies in the Korean dog population, and the factors associated with the levels, with special reference to the vaccination history of the dogs. A total of 772 serum samples were from clinically healthy dogs with over one year old throughout the Korea from January 2003 to April 2004. Details on the sex, breed, age, vaccination status and disease histories were recorded. The level of neutralizing antibodies titer was determined with a modified version of the microneutralization test. Titers over 16 were classified as protective CDV antibody titers. The overall rate of adult dogs with protective antibody titers was 96.0%. The dogs with protective antibody titers varied depending on age, sex, rearing environment and vaccination status. Because the majority of healthy adult dogs in Korea had adequate serum antibody titers against CDV and the immunity provided by the vaccinations is claimed to last for several years, annual revaccination protocol for CDV in adult dogs should be reconsidered.
An indirect immunofluorescent antibody test was applied to survey the antibody prevalence on five canine viruses including canine distempervirus(CDV), canine parvovirus(CPV), canine coronavirus(CCV), canine adenovirus type-2(CAV-2), canine parainfluenzavirus(CPIV) in dogs. The period studied was from October 1992 to June 1993. A total of 80 dog sera was collected from veterinary clinics in Kwangju and Seoul, and examined for the presence of virus antibodies. Immunofluorescent antibodies(IFA) to all viruses were present in a high percentage of 80 sera tested. Seventyfive(93.8%) showed detectable IFA against CPV, 67(83.8%) against CDV, 51(63.8%) against CCV, 42(52.5%) against CPIV and 34(42.5%) against CAV-2. These suggested that all viruses were endemic in the communities. IFA levels against each virus were also distributed fairly irregularly. IFAs for CDV and CPV were detected more frequently with a relatively high incidence in vaccinated group less than 1 years of age. IFAs for CAV-2 were detected more frequently with growing age. In the correlation of clinical signs and antibody prevalence, dogs that showed hematochezia and vomiting had high titers in the positive sera is noteworthy, particularly for CDV and CPV. The significance between dogs those who had diarrhea, dyspnea and salivation and those viruses were obscure.

To provide broadband ISDN service for the users in scattered locations, the application of satellite communications network is seriously considered. To trans mit ATM cells efficiently in satellite communications, it is effective to use TDM A method. However, it is necessary to have a method to compensate the cell delayvari-ation caused by the difference between TDMA and ATM. This paper optimized the cell control time(Tc) when traffic inputs have poisson or markov modulated poisson process by applying cell delay variation characteristics of time stamp method, which has the most advantages among compensation methods or cell delay variation. This paper also intorduces a method of reducing the cell clumping phenomena by adapting discrete time stamp method, including the analysis and evalutation of the range of required quality of CDV distribution by ATM transmission. The result of the experiment shows that CDV distribution-range can be controlled to 1.2$\times$Tc which reduces overall cell delay variation by discrrete time stamp method.

The change of traffic by the CDV is entered in a condensed form in UUC/NPC, overflowing the buffer of the net and possibly causing its congestion. For this reason this paper proposes the Cell Spacing Scheme. As the Cell Shaping Scheme, two method is proposed ; RAT based on the time in which cells enter the spacer and RDT based on the time in which cells come out from the spacer. This paper proposes the improved spacing sheme in which the departure time of the present cell determines the departure time of the next one, by combining with Leaky Bucket and on the traffic characteristics of ATM network.

The objective of this study is to design the optimal die profile that can prevent material fracture in the tube drawing process for automobile steering input shaft. First, the CDV(Critical Damage Value) of material is obtained by the compression test and FE-analysis. The occurrence of fracture is estimated by the FE-analysis considering the CDV. In order to achieve the objective of this study, optimization technique and FE-analysis are applied. FPS(Flexible Polyhedron Search) method, which is one of the non-gradient optimization techniques often used in engineering, is used to search optimal die profile. The drawing die profile is represented by Bezier-curve to generate all the possible die profile. Using FPS method and FE-analysis the optimal drawing die profile is determined. To verify tile effectiveness of the redesigned optimal die, the tube drawing experiment is performed. In the experimental result, it is possible to produce sound product without material fracture using the redesigned optimal die.
