  • In this paper, CDMA Reservation ALOHA scheme which can reduce multiple access interference and packet collision is proposed to support multi-traffic such as voice and random data with and without priority. In this scheme, the time slot is divided into two stage, access and transmission stage. Only packets with spreading codes assigned from base station in access stage can transmit their packets in transmission stage, so MAI can be reduced. To reduce packer collision in access stage, the code reservation and access permission probability are used. Code reservation is allowed for voice traffic and continuous traffic with priority using piggyback and access permission probability based on the estimation of the number of contending users in the steady-state is adaptively applied to each traffic terminal. Also, we analyzed and simulated the numerical performances required for each traffic using Markov chain modeling in a single cell environment.

  • The authors have proposed novel TDD-CDMA systems with Pre-Rake transmit diversity schemes (system 1 and system 2) using multiple transmit antennas in [2] and have also evaluated the system performance through the theoretical analysis and computer simulation. However, the performance of system 2 which transmit a signal using all antennas has not been evaluated for multi-user environment. Therefore in this paper, we analyze the performance of system 2 for multi-user environment and compare the performance with that of the already proposed system 1 which chooses only one antenna. From the numerical results, it is found that system 2 outperforms system 1 as the number of users increases while system 1 outperforms system 2 at a small number of users. Therefore in order to achieve the best system performance, the Pre-Rake transmit diversity type should be selected at the base station according to the number of users.

  • Design and characteristic improvement of existing folded dipole antenna is presented to adopt W-CDMA(1.885~2.170 GHz) wideband antenna radiators. The antenna structure has +/- 45 degrees dual polarization. In order to overcome the narrow bandwidth and low gain characteristic typical of the microstrip antenna, double layered structure was employed. The antenna achieved below - 20 dB reflection coefficients each ports, - 20 dB of port isolation, above 7 dBi of gain, providing evidence that the proposed design can be used in the W-CDMA service frequency band antenna.

  • A medium access control protocol is proposed for integrated voice and data services in the packet CDMA network with a small coverage. Uplink channels are composed of time slots and multiple spreading codes for each slot. This protocol gives higher access priority to the delay-sensitive voice traffic than to the data traffic. During a talkspurt, voice terminals reserve a spreading code to transmit multiple voice packets. On the other hand, whenever generating a data packet, data terminals transmit a packet based on the status Information of spreading codes in the current slot, which is received from base station. In this protocol, voice packet does not come into collision with data packet. Therefore, this protocol can increase the maximum number of voice terminals.

  • In this paper, we propose an error detection scheme of phase offsets for binary sequences including PN (Pseudo Noise) sequences based on the number theoretical approach. It is important to know phase offsets of spreading sequences in the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) mobile communication systems because phase offsets of the same spreading sequence are used to achieve the acquisition and are used to distinguish each base station. When the period of the sequence is not very long, the relative phase offset between the sequence and its shifted replica can be found by comparing them, but as the period of the sequence increases it becomes difficult to find the phase offset. The error detection failure probability of the proposed method is derived, and it is confirmed by the simulation results. We also discuss the circuit realization of the proposed method and show it can be easily implemented.

  • In this paper a two-stage maximum-likelihood (ML) detection structure for group detection in DS/CDMA systems is presented. The first stage of the receiver is a linear filter, aimed at suppressing the effect of the unwanted (i.e., out-of-grout) users' signals, while the second stage is a non-linear block, implementing a ML detection rule on the set of desired users signals. As to the linear stage, we consider both the decorrelating and the minimum mean square error approaches. Interestingly, the proposed detection structure turns out to be a generalization of Varanasi's group detector, to which it reduces when the system is synchronous, the signatures are linerly independent and the first stage of the receiver is a decorrelator. The issue of blind adaptive receiver implementation is also considered, and implementations of the proposed receiver based on the LMS algorithm, the RLS algorithm and subspace-tracking algorithms are presented. These adaptive receivers do not rely on any knowledge on the out-of group users' signals, and are thus particularly suited for rejection of out-of-cell interference in the base station. Simulation results confirm that the proposed structure achieves very satisfactory performance in comparison with previously derived receivers, as well as that the proposed blind adaptive algorithms achieve satisfactory performance.

  • In mobile communication systems, there are areas where signal coverage is not adequately accomplished by base stations. These areas may be underground parking zones, underground stores, tunnels, and insides of buildings, etc. In these areas, repeaters are broadly used as an economical solution. However, the capacity is decreased as the number of repeaters increases because the noise power that flows to a base station in the reverse link is proportional to the number of repeaters. The reduction of capacity in the reverse link is no longer negligible in the case that several tens or hundreds repeaters are connected to a base station. In this paper, we propose c repeater that is switched off automatically when there is no active user within its coverage. With the switching repeater, we can reduce the unnecessary noise level enhancement when there is no active user within the repeaters coverage. The reverse link capacity of a DS/CDMA system with AOS repeater is analyzed mathematically and compared with that without switching repeater. From the numerical results, noticeable improvement with the switching repeaters is shown.

  • The rapid growth of the mobile Internet has enabled its application area to expand, and its users want services that require more bandwidth for multimedia services. There are limits to support the various multimedia service to mobile station provided by existing mobile communications. The wireless MAN called the IEEE 802.16 Broadband Wireless Access systems which the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN is similar to wireline Internet service being able to supper a various contents is used and is designed to consider a handoff is studying. Especially, TG(Task Group)e of IEEE 802.16 is in progress discussion to support a handoff to higher layer using BS(Base Station) or unit of sector, to UC. Yet a scheme is not detail. This thesis proposes the network model for IEEE 802.16e to support a soft handoff between BSs to use a mobile communication network called cdma2000 Ix EV-DO network. The proposed network model supports soft handoff to add a management skill in MA of each BS for MC(Mobility Controller). The proposed network model has merits that is able to apply existing systems as it is and that is able to use a various multimedia service, when using a wireless Internet.

  • This paper presents development of a small size LNA operating at 824 ∼ 849 MHz used for a receiver of a CELLULAR CDMA Base station and a transponder. Using resistive decoupling circuits, a signal at low frequency is dissipated by a resistor. This design method increases the stability of the LNA and is suitable for input stage matching. The LNA consists of low noise GaAs FET ATF-10136 and internally matched VNA-25. The LNA is fabricated with both the RF circuit and the self-bias circuits in aluminum housing. As a result, the characteristics of the LNA implemented here shows above 35dB in gain and below 0.9dB in noise figure, 18.6dBm P1dB power, a typical two tone IM3, -31.17dB with single carrier backed off 10dB from P1dB.

  • We have studied a method to design and fabricate the Intermediate Frequency(IF) band pass filter with low shape factor which is used for CDMA base station on the 35°Y-cut X-propagation Quartz substrate. In order to fabricate a device of the low shape factor for the IF SAW filter on this substrate, we employed apodization weighted type interdigital transducer(IDT) as an input and withdrawal weighted type IDT as an output by using impulse modelling method. Also, using the Kaiser-Bessel window function, we have adopted 2200pairs and 1000pairs of input and oueut IDT respectively to minimize the effect of ripple. Furthermore, the width and the space of IDT finger are 3.6 ㎛ and 3.5 ㎛ respectively. Thus, we can have optimal results when the IDT thickness is 6000Å in consideration of the ratio of SAW's wavelength while it's aperture is 2mm for impedance matching. The fabricated SAW filter for CDMA had the property of almost 115.2MHz of a center frequency, less then 1.27MHz of bandwidth, less than 1.3 of shape factor, - l5dB of out band attenuation insertion loss and -45dB of rejection band.
