A Study on the Period of Carrie's Responsibility (해상운송인의 책임기간에 관한 고찰)

  • This study focuses on analysing the period of carrier's responsibility. The Hague Rules apply only while the cargo is in carriage. This period of carrier's responsibility begins when the ship' tackle is hooked on the goods for loading and continues until they are unhooked from the lifting gear after discharge. The Hague Rules are consequently said to apply from tackle to tackle. Also The Hamburg Rules lays down the basic principle that the carrier will be responsible for the goods during the time he is in charge of them at the port of loading, during the carriage and at the port of discharge. These period of carrier's responsibility should be determinated according to custom of the port of loading and discharge because of the importance of local custom in the loading and discharge of goods.

  • Purpose - This paper explores the contribution lean makes to service levels by addressing lean thinking application in logistics process improvement within a MNC soft drinks manufacturer situated in the United Arab Emirates, and identifies the most significant sources of wastes and their interdependence and highlights key attributes of successful lean implementation. Research design, data, and methodology - This case study examines key logistics employees' perceptions on lean methodology. Results - The results highlight the most significant types of wastes in logistical processes and illustrates ways to eliminate wastes and streamline process flow. The importance of the human role within lean methodology is also identified. Findings suggest that managers should follow both a micro and macro approach when implementing lean practices, as focusing on one waste often leads to ignoring the significance of other wastes. Conclusions - This study highlights the importance of implementing lean at both micro and macro levels and shows how staff involvement increases the efficacy of lean thinking. It offers guidance towards the efficiency of creating value stream mapping processes in situ, which considers different wastes and their interdependence. Managers with limited resources are encouraged to implement lean methodology taking cognizance of these factors.

Multiuser chirp modulation for underwater acoustic channel based on VTRM

  • In this paper, an ascheme is proposed for multiuser underwater acoustic communication by using the multi-chirp rate signals. It differs from the well known TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access), FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access) or CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access), by assigning each users with different chirp-rate carriers instead of the time, frequency or PN code. Multi-chirp rate signals can be separated from each other by FrFT (Fractional Fourier Transform), which can be regarded as the chirp-based decomposing, and superior to the match filter in the underwater acoustic channel. VTRM (Virtual Time Reverse Mirror) is applied into the system to alleviate the ISI caused by the multipatch and make the equalization more simple. Results of computer simulations and pool experiments prove that the proposed multiuser underwater acoustic communication based on the multi-chirp rate exhibit well performance. Outfield experments carrie out in Xiamen Port show that using about 10 kHz bandwidth, four users could communicate at the same time with 425 bps with low BER and can match the UAC application.

AE Characteristics of Fatigue Crack Opening and Closure in SWS 490B and Al 7075-T6 Alloy (SWS 490B와 Al 7075-T6 합금의 피로균열 열림 및 닫힘시 음향방출 특성 분석)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of AE activities in the crack opening and closure during the fatigue test. The laboratory experiments for various materials and test conditions were carrie out to identify AE characteristics of fatigue crack propagation. Compact tension specimens of SWS 490B and Al 7075-T6 alloy were prepared for fatigue test. AE activities were analyzed based on the phase of the loading cycle. In case of SWS 490B, the most of AE was generated when the crack began opening and the crack closed fully, whereas a few in the full opening of the crack. On the other hand, in case of Al 7075-T6, a distinct AE activity was observed during crack opening process. AE activity in the peak loading of cycle was different with each specimen. However, in the same material, AE activity was not affected by the change of cyclic frequency (0.1, 0.2, 1.0 ㎐). It was found that AE activities during crack opening and closure depend on material properties such as micro-structure, yield strength and elongation.

Employers' Perceptions of Intimate Partner Violence among a Diverse Workforce

  • Objectives: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant global public health concern, affecting 5.3 million US individuals annually. An estimated 1 in 3 women globally are abused by an intimate partner in their lifetime, and the effects carry over into the workplace. This article examines employers' perceptions of IPV in the workplace, targeting supervisors of Latina employees. Methods: Fourteen employers and supervisors of small service-sector companies in Oregon were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. Interpretive description was used to identify themes. These qualitative interviews preceded and helped to formulate a larger workplace intervention study. Results: The following themes were found and are detailed: (1) factors associated with recognizing IPV in the workplace, (2) effects of IPV on the work environment and (3) supervisors' responses to IPV-active vs. passive involvement. Also, supervisors' suggestions for addressing IPV in the workplace are summarized. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate the need for more IPV-related resources in the workplace to be available to supervisors as well as survivors and their coworkers. The needs of supervisors and workplaces vary by site, demonstrating the need for tailored interventions, and culturally appropriate workplace interventions are needed for Latinas and other racially and ethnically diverse populations.

  • The object of this study was invest, igat, ing the failure phenomenon in the contact zone of rcpnired concrete structures due to the external climate change(hygral transient condition). This study was carrie out by calculating the non-stationary moisture and stress distribution in the repaired concrete structures with the cement mortar. In this analysis, main variables were the overlay thickness (Do=0.5-2.5cm). and the pre-wetting time(tc= l-5days). and the cxtcrnal 1.~1ative humidity(Ho=50-80%). The results show that the minimum overlay thickness and the minimum pre-wetting time are necessary to k e ~ p compressive stresses in the contact zone for a relative humidity.

The effects of body posture by using Baby Carrier in different ways (아기띠 착용 방법이 신체정렬에 미치는 영향)

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to find out variations in body posture by using the baby carrier at the front side and back side. METHODS: Thirty two healthy and young female who will bring up infants and had no musculoskeletal disorders of neck, lumbar and low limb were recruited for this study. They were each marked about ears of tragus, cervical 7th, acromion anterior end, anterior superior iliac spine, posterior superior iliac spine, greater trochanter and lateral malleolus as landmarks to measure variations of body posture when they carry infants at the front side and back side. Landmarks were regarded as the creteria in order to measure NeckFlexion angle(NF), Foreward shoulder angle(FSA), Pelvic tilt(PT), Sway angle(SA), Head displacement(HD) and Scapular displacement(SD). Variations in body posture were measured from the neutral position to the front and back side by using Image J. RESULTS: There were significance level (p<.05) in NF, PT, SA, HD and SD except for FSA in two different side. CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate that each of the using ways of baby carrier for baby care was influenced postural responses of young women. therefore, it could be considered to apply to women who have abnormal body posture in order to minimize musculoskeletal disorders.

  • A polygonal antibody against recombinant hirudin was raised for the development of a ELISA in biological fluids. Recombinant hirudin was conjugated to maleimide activated carrie r protein, KLH and injected to a rabbit. The third booster collection of antiserum was used as primary antibody for the ELISA. The titer for the detection antibody was determined. The direct ELISA could determine the concentration of hirudin in the range of ~10ng/ml. Affinity pulified IgG was obtained and conjugated to horseradish peroxidase. Purified IgG and IgG-HRP could be used as capture and detection antibody, respectively. Although sandwich ELISA would not give the satisfactory results. it could apply for the detection of hirudin level in the range of ~20 ${\mu}$g/ml.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the ratio of carrie's and run's distance in golf running approach using 52° and 48° wedges. Method: 2 women's professional golfers from the LKPGA were given the running approach in the 5 m, 10 m, 15 m respectively. The variables were analyzed through a golf analyzer and actual measurement. Results: If you send 5 m with 52° and 48° wedges, the ball run about 5 m, 10 m respectively, if you carry 10 m with 52° and 48° wedges, the ball run about 10 m, 13 m respectively. And if you carry 15 m with 52° and 48° wedges, the ball run about 13 m, 15 m respectively. Conclusion: Based on the results, if you are confident in distance, if you choose the club properly and if you are confident, if you try to send the correct distance to the hole cup, then you will have a more confident approach, which will lead to better results.

  • Since OFDM system suffers from high peak-to average power ratio(PAPR) drawbacks, more energy has been converted to seek for a new substitutable system which can maintain OFDM system's inherent virtues while avoid its defects. Consequently, a new multicarrier system called as CI/OFDM system has been proposed which applied carrier interferometry(CI) code to OFDM system. Due to its low PAPR advantage and orthogonal property, it has received more and more attention. Simultaneously, an old technique called single carrier(SC) system has retaken its attractions for the same purposes. This paper analyzes two cyclic prefixed transmission schemes variants of OFDM system: 1.carrier interferometry-Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (CI/OFDM); 2. Cyclic prefixed single carrie(CP-SC) with frequency domain equalization. We compare the achievable bit rate transmission of the two systems in terms of signal to noise ratio(SNR) by mathematical derivation. We demonstrated that CI/OFDM achieves a bit higher transmission bit rate to that of the CP-SC with frequency domain equalizer.
