Purpose: This study was to develop an algorithm for emergency nursing care of dyspneic patients. Methods: This methodological study was done through reviews of medical records and literatures, checklists of emergency nursing care for dyspneic patients, interviews with nurses, and experts' validity. Results: Firstly, the initial assessment confirmed the identification of airway patency, accessory muscle usage, RR, $SpO_2$, v/s, skin color, and mental status. Immediate emergency care provided oxygen, checked ABG, EKG, and chest X-ray, established a semi-fowler position, maintained IV routes, administered medication orders, and conducted careful monitoring. Secondly, if the patient exhibited $SpO_2$ of less than 90%, the nurse considered the patient's condition to be aggravated. Thirdly, if the patient showed improvement of more than 90% $SpO_2$, the nurse administered secondary assessment and carried out specific nursing care. However, if the patient continuously showed $SpO_2$ of less than 80%, the nurse assisted the intubation and then executed ventilator therapy. Conclusions: This study suggests that the algorithm is an effective decision tool and utilizing the algorithm is expected to improve the emergency nursing care for dyspneic patients.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the degree of disparity in unmet dental care needs in Korean adults. Methods: Using data from the 5th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 9,573 adults between 25-54 years old were selected. The reason for unmet dental care needs was analyzed by chi square test and logistic regression analysis. Results: Those having unmet oral health care needs accounted for 41.3%. The majority of the reason (1,036 persons) was "busy with school or work" and the second reason was financial burden (1,028 persons). Those who were female individuals (OR: 1.14, CI: 1.02-1.27), having higher income (OR: 0.85, CI: 0.72-0.99), and perceiving poor oral health status (OR: 5.68, CI: 4.64-6.95). Conclusions: It is necessary to extend and implement the nationwide public assistance of dental care services among the second-to-the bottom and low income people.

This study examined the relationship between the physical activity levels and health care utilization in Korean elderly based on the data from The fifth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (K-NHANES V). As a result, physically active participants were 0.54 times (OR;95% CI, p<0.001) less likely to use inpatient health care and 0.73 times (OR;95% CI, p=0.040) less likely to use outpatient health care and 0.75 times (OR;95% CI, p<0.007) less likely to use drugstores than physically inactive participants, and the frequency of health care use was lower. In addition, physically minimal active participants were 0.64 times (OR;95% CI, p<0.001) less likely to use inpatient health care than physically inactive participants; the frequency of other health care facilities was lower. In conclusion, the relationship between being physically active and lower health care utilization among Korean elderly identified in this study. This suggests that being physically active is helpful to the elderly, not only in health promotion and improving quality of life, but also in reduced medical expenditure.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between diabetes mellitus and oral disease in the Korea adults by using the representative data of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) V. Methods: Using data from a cross-sectional survey of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey V. The subjects were 5,602 adults over 19 years old. The survey data and the examination data are used for the independent variables. KNHANES included health status, nutrition survey, and oral examination. The health status was obtained by a self-reported questionnaire of the study subjects and direct interview was carried out on economic status, prevalence rate, and use of medical services. Results: The regular dental checkup of diabetes patients was significantly lower than the general population. Regular dental visits allow adults to receive early diagnosis and obtain restorative care at the first visit. The regular annual oral examination is very important to prevent and manage the chronic diseases including diabetes mellitus. Conclusions: Diabetes mellitus can be fully prevented and managed by the regular annual dental checkup. The establishment of the regular dental checkup system can prevent and manage the complication due to diabetes mellitus and other chronic diseases.

Purpose: Bedside electrocardiograph (ECG) monitoring is continuously used for assessing patients' cardiac status in intensive care units. However, it has not been explored whether it is used with proper knowledge and nursing practices; if not, its usage will be limited and the risk for compromised patient safety might be significant. This study, therefore, explored knowledge and nursing practices regarding bedside ECG monitoring in nurses working at intensive care units. Methods: Participants in this survey research were a convenience sample of 156 nurses from 25 intensive care units distributed in five hospitals with more than 1,000 beds each in Seoul, South Korea. Results: Participants showed limited and incorrect knowledge and nursing practices. Only 4 (2.6%) participants correctly answered to all electrode placement sites of RA, LA, LL, and V1. Lead II was the most frequently monitored unit regardless of the main purpose of ECG monitoring, and nursing practices to manage noisy signals did not include skin care at the top priorities. Conclusion: Educators and clinicians alike need to make an effort to ensure that a safe level of knowledge and practices for the monitoring is maintained in order to make sure that patient outcomes are not compromised.
The purpose of this study was to compare the health status of South Korea with those of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries and examine the trends. Position vAlue for Relative Comparison (PARC) was used as a gauge for comparison, and five sectors of the health care system were measured: demand, supply, accessibility, quality, and cost. The Mann-Kendall test was used as a statistical analysis method to examine trend of PARC values obtained from 2000 to recent years. According to the results, the demand, supply, accessibility, and quality sectors were higher than the OECD average, while the cost was lower than the average. However, there is a recent trend of sharp increases in health care costs. Some indicators: health employment, quality of primary care and mental health care were lower than the OECD average, and health determinants showed a worsening trend. Therefore, policy-makers need to take this into account and make efforts for sustainable health care.

Physician recommendation is an important predictor of HPV vaccine acceptance; however, physician willingness and preferences regarding HPV vaccination may be influenced by factors including patient age, vaccine type, and cost. A cross-sectional survey was administered to a convenience sample of health care providers in Da Nang, Vietnam, to evaluate awareness, perceptions about HPV and HPV vaccines, and willingness to vaccinate a female patient. Willingness to vaccinate was evaluated using a full-factorial presentation of scenarios featuring the following factors: vaccine cost (free vs 1,000,000 VND), patient age (12, 16, or 22 years), and HPV vaccine type (bivalent vs quadrivalent). Responses from 244 providers were analyzed; providers had a mean age of $34{\pm}11.9$ years; a majority were female, married, and had children of their own. Thirty-six percent specialized in obstetrics/gynecology and 24% were providers in family medicine. Of the three factors considered in conjoint analysis, vaccine cost was the most important factor in willingness to vaccinate, followed by patient age, and vaccine type. The most favorable scenario for vaccinating a female patient was when the vaccine was free, the patient was 22 years of age, and the HPV4 vaccine was described. In multivariable analysis, older age, being a physician, being married, and having children were all associated with increased willingness to recommend HPV vaccination (p<0.05). Provider willingness is an important aspect of successful HPV vaccination programs; identifying preferences and biases in recommendation patterns will highlight potential areas for education and intervention.
This study conducted MBTI test of freshmen majoring in skin care who studied skin care curriculum to reveal the characteristics of the students, and analyzed their adaptation to university life a year later. It conducted a 4-year follow-up survey of 261 freshmen majoring in skin care from 2016 to 2019, followed by data coding and data cleaning, and analyzed them using the SPSS V. 21.0 statistical package program. As a result, freshmen majoring in skin beauty prefer a wide range of interpersonal relationships and like to understand and learn from experience, and they can see that they have many tendencies to prepare and carry out everything in advance, and to be productive and purposeful.
The purpose of this study was to examine the maintenance of an evaluation accreditation indicator according to child care center teachers' participation in decision making. The subjects of this study were 139 teachers from 12 accredited national, public, private, and corporate child care centers in Seoul and North Gyeongsang Province. The TIP-2 (Teacher Involvement and Participation Scale V.2) and Accreditation Indicator for Child Care Centers were used to measure teachers' participation in decision making and accreditation indicator maintenance. Frequency, mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA and scheffe test were used for data analyses. The results revealed that the teachers who rated middle and high level in terms of their participation in decision-making showed higher levels of maintenance of the evaluation accreditation indicator than those with low levels of participation. This finding suggests that teachers' participation in decision making is an important factor for maintaining the quality of child care centers.
