STEP(Standard for the Exchange of Product model data)은 건설 도면정보의 교환 및 공유를 위한 정보모델을 구축함에 있어서 그 활용 가능성이 높다.

Procedural models have the advantage of being easy to edit simply by changing the values of the parameters of their constructional operations. In previous studies, we have introduced an approach for representing procedural 2D CAD models in ISO 10303 and developed ISO 10303-112 for the exchange of procedural 2D CAD models. In this paper, a method for the development of a procedural 2D CAD data translator supporting ISO 10303-112 is suggested. Furthermore, the core techniques applied to the translator are presented. The feasibility of the proposed method was demonstrated through data exchange experiments using a prototype translator.

The macro-parametric approach, which is a method of CAD model exchange, has recently been proposed. CAD models can be exchanged in the form of a macro file, which is a sequence of modeling commands. As an event-driven commands set, the standard macro file can transfer design intents such as parameters, features and constraints. Moreover it is suitable for the network environment because the standard macro commands are open, explicit, and the data size is small. This paper introduces the concept of the macro-parametric method and proposes its representation using XML technology. Representing the macro-parametric data using XML allows managing vast amount of dynamic contents, Web-enabled distributed applications, and inherent characteristic of structure and validation.

A product is designed through the collaboration among engineers in several fields such as design, analysis, and manufacturing. These series of functions are performed repeatedly during the design process. An easy access and exchange of the model data is one of the important elements that help to shorten production development time. Especially, the importance of data exchange between CAD and CAE applications is increasing in the field of verification and estimation of the products. However, information and knowledge of model which is generated by a CAD software cannot be transferred by a function of CAE software, as an exchange of product data between CAD and CAE applications. It causes a delay in design analysis and eventually discourages a designer's effort in improving his design. Therefore, we need to integrate a commercial CAD and CAE applications effectively and to use the same interface on a product model obtained in a distributed environment. This paper shows how to implement a model exchange between CAD and CAE by a web-service and how to provide a communication environment among engineers.

In ship building industry, CNC and CAM are mostly applied to NC cutting and manufacturing of propeller and prototype ship model. Herein, prototype ship model is producted by CAD/CAM process. Hull form data is obtained from the ship drawing and used for 3D modeling by CAD software Pro/Engineer. CAD data is transferred into CAM s/w SPEEDplus to perform CNC process and the prototype small ship model is manufactured by CNC machine. To solve data transfer among different systems. IGES and STEP neutral formats are currently used. Herein IGES format is adopted for data transfer between CAD/CAM softwares.

Hull design data is currently prepared by a 2D CAD system and re-input to 3D CAD systems specialized for detail design or to a structural analysis system. In this paper, sharing design data among different CAD systems has been studied. Based on STEP methodology, a neutral model is generated from 2D AutoCAD drawings. To handle a geometric data of this model, the non-manifold model of ACIS is used because it can support various CAD data representation such as 2D graphic entities, 3D wireframe, 3D surface model, and solid B-Rep/CSG model. It is observed that a mon-manifold model can easily be transformed to a 3-D wireframe model for the hull detail design system AutoDef or a FE model for the structural analysis system Nastran.

If the topology changes in the re-generation step of the history-based and feature-based CAD systems, it is difficult to identify an entity in the old model and find the same entity in the new model. This problem is known as 'persistent naming problem'. To exchange parametric CAD models, the persistent naming problem and the naming mapping problem must be solved among different CAD system, which use different naming scheme. For CAD model exchange the persistent naming has its own characteristics compare to that for CAD system development. This paper analyses previous researches and proposes a solution to the persistent naming problem for CAD model exchanges and to the naming mapping problem among different naming schemes.

It is not possible to exchange parametric information of CAD (Computer Aided Design) models based on the current version of STEP (Standard leer the Exchange of Product model data). The design intent can be lost during the STEP transfer of CAD models. The ISO Parametrics Group has proposed the SMCH (Solid Model Construction History) schema in June 2000 that includes structures fur exchange of parametric information. This paper proposes the macro parametric approach that is intended to provide capabilities to transfer parametric information. In this approach, CAD models are exchanged in the form of macro files. The macro file contains user commands which are used in the modeling phase. To exchange CAD models using the macro parametric approach, modeling commands of commercial CAD systems are analyzed. Those commands are classified by the grouping method suggested by Bill Anderson. As a neutral file format, a standard modeling commands set has been defined. Mapping relations between the standard modeling commands set and the native modeling commands set of commercial CAD systems are defined.
