The effect of temperature and strain rate on the deformation behavior of $\alpha$-uranium was investigated in the temperature ranged 300$^{\circ}$ to 55$0^{\circ}C$ by strain, rate change test. Strain rate sensitivity, activation volume, strain rate sensitivity exponent and dislocation velocity exponent were determined. The strain rate sensitivity exponent and dislocation velocity exponent were determined. The strain rate sensitivity exponent increases with strain below 40$0^{\circ}C$, while the exponent decreases with strain above 50$0^{\circ}C$. It is believed that the increase of strain rate sensitivity exponent with strain below 40$0^{\circ}C$ can be attributed to an increase in internal stress as a result of work hardening while decrease of the exponent with strain above 50$0^{\circ}C$ is due to predominance of thermal softening over work hardening because more slip, system are active in deformation above about 50$0^{\circ}C$.
1. To get the suitable yeasts for the tratment of waste liquor from pulp and paper industries, the 162 yeasts were isolated from the waste liquor, decayed trees and sewage (1, 7, 8, 9, 1971). 17 species were chosen by its ability to assimilate the carbon compounds and indentified. 2. All of the strain was increased its growing ability by agitation. In particular, the strain 912, strain 613, strain 100, strain 732 showed excellent high productive ratio(A/$A_{0}$). 3. The optimum temperature of the strains rangel $27^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$. 4. Most of the strain was grown actively in 10C/5N-composition and strain 113, strain 432, strain 735, strain 936, and strain 912 showed its optimum growing in 15C/5N-composition and 5C/5N-composition, respectively. 5. The optimum pH of the strains lay within range pH 4.5-6. Effect of the variation of pH on the growth was nearly negligible within this range. 6. The strain 912, strain 100, strain 613, strain 311, strain 235, and strain 732 were expected for the utilization to the treatment of the waste liquor from pulp and paper industries.
Constant rate of strain (CRS) consolidation tests were conducted for undisturbed Ariake clay samples from three boreholes in Saga Plain of Kyushu Island, Japan. The coefficients of consolidation ($c_{\nu}$) were interpreted from the CRS test results by small- and large-strain theory. Large-strain theory was found to interpret smaller $c_{\nu}$ values and less strain rate effect on $c_{\nu}$ than that by small-strain theory. Comparing the theoretical strain distributions within a soil specimen to those obtained by numerical simulation shows that the small-strain theory can be used only for the dimensionless parameter $c_{\nu}/\dot{\varepsilon}H_0^2{\geq}50$ (where $\dot{\varepsilon}$ is strain rate and $H_0$ is the specimen height), and the large-strain theory can be used for a larger range of strain rates. Applying the criterion to undisturbed Ariake clay with a $c_{\nu}$ value of about $1{\times}10^{-7}\;m^2/s$, it is suggested that the large-strain theory should be adopted for calculating the $c_{\nu}$ value when $\dot{\varepsilon}$ > 0.03%/min.

Crude oil-degrading microorganisms, Acinetobacter sp. A132, Pseudomonas aeruginosa F722, and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus OM1 were isolated from soil and sea. The optimal temperature of strain A132 and strain F722 on growth isolated from soil was $35^{\circ}C$ both, and also their growth were optimized at pH 8 and 9, respectively. The growth of the strains, A132 and F722, showed that crude oil of 2% (w/v) in culture broth in which crude oil was used as carbon and energy sources appeared to be an optimum. Optimal culture conditions of strain OM1 were different from those of the soil microorganisms except for temperature. The growth of strain OM1 was optimized at pH 7 and crude oil of 3.0% (w/v). The degradability to crude oil by strain A132 showed maximum $5.49g/\;l\;{\cdot}\;day$ under the conditions of $25^{\circ}C$, NaCl of 1.0% (w/v), and crude oil of 2.0% (w/v). The highest degradability of strain F722 to crude oil was $1.19g/\;l\;{\cdot}\;day$ under the culture conditions at $35^{\circ}C$, NaCl 1.0% (w/v), and crude oil of 2.0% (w/v). The degradation characteristics of kerosene $(nC_9-nC_{20})$ and diesel $(nC_9-nC_{28})$ by strain OM1, and F722 were analyzed by gas chromatography. Strain OM1 degraded more than 95% of kerosene and 75% of diesel for 7 days cultivation. Strain F722 showed degradation of more than 80% to kerosene in 10 days.
A chitinolytic bacterium, Chromobacterium sp. strain C-61, was found strongly antagonistic to Rhizoctonia solani, a causal agent of damping-off of eggplant. In this study, the biocontrol activity and enzymatic characteristics of strain C-61 were compared with its four Tn5 insertion mutants (C61-A, -B, -C, and -D) that had lower chitinolytic ability. The chitinase activity of a 2-day old culture was about $76\%,\;49\%\;and\;6\%$ level in C61-A, C61-B and in C61-C, respectively, compared with that of strain C-61. The $\beta-N-acetylhexosaminidase$(Nahase) activity was little detected in strain C-61 but increased largely in C-61A, C61-B and C61-C. Activities of chitinase and Nahase appeared to be negatively correlated in these strains. Another mutant, C-61D, produced no detectable extracellular chitinase and Nahase. The in vitro and in vivo biocontrol activities of strain C-61 and its mutants were closely related to their ability to produce chitinase but not Nahase. No significant differences in population densities between strain C-61 and its mutants were observed in soil around eggplant roots. The results of SDS-PAGE and isoelectrofocusing showed that a major chitinase of strain C-61 is 54-kDa with pI of approximately 8.5. This study provides evidence that the biocontrol activity of Chromobacterium sp. strain C-61 against Rhizoctonia solani depends on the ability to produce chitinase with molecular weight of 54-kDa and pI of 8.5.
Static restoration mechanism during hot interrupted deformation of Cu-Zn alloy was studied in the temperature range from $550^{\circ}C$ to $750^{\circ}C$ and at a constant strain rate of 0.1/sec. At a given temperature, the hot interrupted deformations were performed with variation of interrupted time $t_i$ form 1 to 50 sec and of interrupted strain ${\varepsilon}_i$ from 0.15 to 0.90. From the analysis of the values of the critical strain of ${\varepsilon}_c$ for tje initiation of dynamic recrystallization and the peak strain of${\varepsilon}_p$, the relationship ${\varepsilon}_c{\fallingdotseq}0.7{\varepsilon}_p$ was obtained. It was clarified that the softening of the interrupted deformation was mainly the static recrystallization and the fractional softening(FS) which was over 30% mostly confirmed this result. The fractional softening of the interrupted time $t_i$ especially and pre-strain. The FS increased with increasing strain rate, interrupted time and pre-strain. The change of microstructures after hot deformation could be predicted by the FS. when the FS was 30~100%, static recrystallization was happened and grain growth was observed at the condition which was $750^{\circ}C$ deformation temperature, 0.45 prestrain and this condition's FS value was over 100%.

The dynamic recrystallization (DRX) of medium carbon steels (SCM 440 and POSMA45) was studied with torsion test in the temperature range of $900-1100^{\circ}C$ and the strain rate range of $5.0x10^{-2}\;-\;5.0x10^0/sec$. To establish the quantitative equations for DRX, the evolution of flow stress curve with strain was analyzed. The critical strain (${\varepsilon}_c$) and strain for maximum softening rate ( ${\varepsilon}^{*}$) could be confirmed by the analysis of work hardening rate ($d{\sigma}/d{\varepsilon}\;=\; \theta$). The volume fraction of dynamic recrystallization ($X_{DRX}$) as a function of processing variables, such as strain rate ( $\dot{\varepsilon}$ ), temperature (T), and strain ( $\varepsilon$ ) were established using the ${\varepsilon}_c$ and ${\varepsilon}^{*}$. For the exact prediction, the ${\varepsilon}_c$, ${\varepsilon}^{*}$ and Avrami' exponent (m') were quantitatively expressed by dimensionless parameter, Z/A respectively. The transformation-effective strain-temperature curve for DRX could be composed. It was found that the calculated results were agreed with the experimental data for the steels at any deformation conditions.
One hundred and thirty bacterial isolates with high chitinolytic activity on chitin agar media were isolated and identified. Most of the isolates were Aeromonas hydrophila (110 isolates), and the others were Serratia marcescens (11 isolates), Aeromonas caviae (3 isolates), Chromobacterium violaceum strain C-61 (2 isolates), Chromobacterium violaceum strain C-72 (1 isolate) and unknown species (3 isolates). Among them, C. violaceum strain C-61 had highest chitinolytic activity and fungal growth inhibition on PDA. This bacterium also inhibited the growth of Rhizoctonia solani, Sclerotinia scelrotiorum, Phytophthora capsici and Pythium ultimum, but it didn't inhibit the growth of Fusarium oxysprum and Fusarium solani. C. violaceum strain C-61 suppressed damping-off of eggplant caused by R. solani. Populations of the chitinolytic bacteria such as Aeromonas hydrophila, Serratia marcescens, Aeromonas caviae, Chromobacterium violaceum strain C-61 and Chromobacterium violaceum strain C-72 introduced into R. solani-infested soil were continuously decreased until 20 days after treatment, but their populations except A. caviae were not changed significantly and maintained over 5$\times$104 CFU per g of soil thereafter.
The chitinase-producing bacterial strain C-1 is one of the key chitinase-producing biocontrol agents used for effective bioformulations for biological control. These bioformulations are mixed cultures of various chitinolytic bacteria. However, the precise identification, biocontrol activity, and the underlying mechanisms of the strain C-1 have not been investigated so far. Therefore, we evaluated in planta biocontrol efficacies of C-1 and determined the draft genome sequence of the strain in this study. The bacterial C-1 strain was identified as a novel Serratia sp. by a phylogenic analysis of its 16S rRNA sequence. The Serratia sp. C-1 bacterial cultures showed strong in planta biocontrol efficacies against some major phytopathogenic fungal diseases. The draft genome sequence of Serratia sp. C-1 indicated that the C-1 strain is a novel strain harboring a subset of genes that may be involved in its biocontrol activities.

In this paper, tensile behavior and low cycle fatigue behavior of 316L stainless steel which is currently favored structural material for several high temperature components such as the liquid metal cooled fast breeder reactor (LMFBR) were investigated. Research was performed at 55$0^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ and $650^{\circ}C$ since working temperature of 316L stainless steel in a real field is from 40$0^{\circ}C$ to $650^{\circ}C$. From tensile tests performed by strain controls with $1{\times}10^{-3}/s,\; l{\times}10^{ -4}/s \;and\; 1{\times}10/^{ -5}/ s $ strain rates at each temperature, negative strain rate response (that is, strain hardening decreases as strain rate increases) and negative temperature response were observed. Strain rate effect was relatively small compared with temperature effect. LCF tests with a constant total strain amplitude were performed by strain control with a high temperature extensometer at R.T, 55$0^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$ and total strain amplitudes of 0.3%~0.8% were used and test strain rates were $1{times}10^{-2} /s,\; 1{times}10^{-3} /s\; and\; 1{times}10^{-4} /s$. A new energy based LCF life prediction model which can explain the effects of temperature, strain amplitude and strain rate on fatigue life was proposed and its excellency was verified by comparing with currently used models.
