This high pressure synchrotron X-ray diffraction study examined the change of bulk modulus of C-S-H(I), core material creating strength in alkali-activated slag cement as well as structural model of C-S-H, mainly attributed to Al-substitution for Si, which occurs at the bridging tetrahedral sites in dreierketten silicate chains in the nanostructure of C-S-H(I). This study presents that Al-substitution in C-S-H(I) does not affect the bulk modulus of C-S-H(I), which is surprising because many researchers have expected that Al-substitution should induce some critical change in mechanical properties of C-S-H(I).
C-S-H phase is the most abundant reaction product, occupying about 50~60% of cement paste volume. The phase is also responsible for most of engineering properties of cement paste. This is not because it is intrinsically strong or stable, but because it forms a continuous layer that binds together the original cement particles into a cohesive whole. The binding ability of C-S-H phase arises from its nanometer-level structure. In terms of chloride penetration in concrete, C-S-H phase is known to adsorb chloride ions, however, its mechanism is very complicated and still not clear. The purpose of this study is to examine the interaction between chloride ions and C-S-H phase with various Ca/Si ratios and identify the adsorption mechanism. C-S-H phase can absorb chloride ions with 3 steps. In the C-S-H phase with low Ca/Si ratios, momentary physical adsorption could not be expected. Physical adsorption is strongly dependent on electro-kinetic interaction between surface area of C-S-H phase and chloride ions. For C-S-H phase with high Ca/Si ratio, electrical kinetic interaction was strongly activated and the amount of surface complexation increased. However, chemical adsorption could not be activated for C-S-H phase with high Ca/Si ratio. The reason can be explained in such a speculation that chloride ions cannot be penetrated and adsorbed chemically. Thus, the maximum chloride adsorption capacity was obtained from the C-S-H phase with a 1.50 Ca/Si ratio.

In this study, nano-sized C-S-H crystals were synthesized using the liquid phase reaction method and their properties were investigated. The synthesized C-S-H crystals were added to the cement composite in suspension form to determine their effect on the hydration properties of the cement. The amount of chemical admixture was varied to obtain nano-sized C-S-H crystals with optimal agglomerated morphology, and SEM photographs were analyzed. A cleaning process was added to remove harmful substances other than the synthesiz ed C-S-H crystals. It was found that the concentration of harmful substances was reduced in the case of C-S-H crystals subjected to the cleaning process. The synthesized C-S-H suspensions were prepared with and without the cleaning process, and cement composites were prepared with the cement weight content as the main variable. The effect of C-S-H crystals on the initial hydration properties of the cement was confirmed by microhydration heat analysis. In addition, mortar specimens were prepared to measure the compressive strength over time. The test results showed that the nano-sized C-S-H crystals act as nucleation sites in the cement paste to promote the early hydration of the cement and increase the early compressive strength.

While PFOS sodium salt ($C_8F_{17}SO_3Na$) was not degraded by microorganisms for 28 days, the 4 alternatives were biodegraded at the rates of 21.6% for $C_{25}F_{17}H_{32}S_3O_{13}Na_3$, 20.5% for $C_{15}F_9H_{21}S_2O_8Na_2$, 15.8% for $C_{23}F_{18}H_{28}S_2O_8Na_2$ and 6.4% for $C_{17}F_9H_{25}S_2O_8Na_2$, respectively. The acute toxicity test using Daphnia magna was conducted for 48 hours, the half effective concentration ($EC_{50}$) of PFOS sodium salt ($C_8F_{17}SO_3Na$) was evaluated in 54.5 mg/L. While the 4 alternatives did not show any effect at 500.0 mg/L. The surface tension of the PFOS salt ($C_8F_{17}SO_3Na$) is 46.2 mN/m at a concentration of 500.0 mg/L. While the surface tension of the 4 alternatives was found to be superior to PFOS sodium salt ($C_8F_{17}SO_3Na$). The surface tension of $C_{23}F_{18}H_{28}S_2O_8Na_2$ (20.9 mN/m) has the lowest, followed by $C_{15}F_9H_{21}S_2O_8Na_2$ (23.4 mN/m), $C_{17}F_9H_{25}S_2O_8Na_2$ (27.3 mN/m), $C_{25}F_{17}H_{32}S_3O_{13}Na_3$ (28.2 mN/m). The four kinds of alternatives ($C_{15}F_9H_{21}S_2O_8Na_2$, $C_{17}F_9H_{25}S_2O_8Na_2$, $C_{23}F_{18}H_{28}S_2O_8Na_2$, $C_{25}F_{17}H_{32}S_3O_{13}Na_3$) were found to be superior to PFOS sodium salt ($C_8F_{17}SO_3Na$) in terms of biodegradation, Daphnia sp. acute toxicity and surface tension, and thus they were considered applicable as PFOS alternatives. Especially biodegradation rate of $C_{15}F_9H_{21}S_2O_8Na_2$, $C_{23}F_{18}H_{28}S_2O_8Na_2$ and $C_{25}F_{17}H_{32}S_3O_{13}Na_3$ was relatively high as 15.8~21.6%, and Daphnia sp. acute toxicity and surface tension were considerably superior (surface tension 39~55%) to PFOS sodium salt. Therefore, these alternatives are considered to be available as an alternative of PFOS.
Friction coefficient of SM45C steel was surprisingly reduced with $H_2S$ and $C_3H_8$ gas during plasma sulf-nitriding. During the plasma sulf-nitriding, 100-700 sccm of $H_2S$ gas and 100 sccm of $C_3H_8$ gas were added and working pressure and temperature were 2 torr, $500-550^{\circ}C$, respectively. As $H_2S$ gas amount increased over 500 sccm, flake-like structures were developed on top of the nitriding layer and grain size of the nitriding layer were about 100 nm. The friction coefficient for the sample treated plasma sulf-nitriding under $N_2-H_2S$ gas was 0.4 - 0.5. The structure became more finer and amorphous-like along with $N_2-H_2S-C_3H_8$ gas and the nano-sized surface microstructures resulted in high hardness and significantly low friction coefficient of 0.2.
Srivastava noticed the existence of three additional complete triple hypergeometric functions $H_A$, $H_B$ and $H_C$ of the second order in the course of an extensive investigation of Lauricella's fourteen hypergeometric functions of three variables. In 2004, Rathie and Kim obtained four summation formulas containing a large number of very interesting reducible cases of Srivastava's triple hypergeometric series $H_A$ and $H_C$. Here we are also aiming at presenting two unified summation formulas (actually, including 62 ones) for some reducible cases of Srivastava's $H_C$ with the help of generalized Dixon's theorem and generalized Whipple's theorem on the sum of a $_3F_2$ obtained earlier by Lavoie et al.. Some special cases of our results are also considered.
A twt -step carbothermal reduction scheme has been employed for the synthesis of SiC whiskers in an Ar or a H2 atmosphere via vapor-solid two-stage and vapor-liquid-solid growth mechanism respectively. It has been shown that the whisker growth proceed through the following reaction mechanism in an Ar at-mosphere : SiO2(S)+C(s)-SiO(v)+CO(v) SiO(v)3CO(v)=SiC(s)whisker+2CO2(v) 2C(s)+2CO2(v)=4CO(v) the third reaction appears to be the rate-controlling reaction since the overall reaction rates are dominated by the carbon which is participated in this reaction. The whisker growth proceeded through the following reaction mechaism in a H2 atmosphere : SiO2(s)+C(s)=SiO(v)+CO(v) 2C(s)+4H2(v)=2CH4(v) SiO(v)+2CH4(v)=SiC(s)whisker+CO(v)+4H2(v) The first reaction appears to be the rate-controlling reaction since the overall reaction rates are enhanced byincreasing the SiO vapor generation rate.
In this study, gel powder which had relatively high hydration reactivity in CaO and P2O5 rich composition of CaO-P2O5-SiO2-H2O system was prepared by sol-gel process and its hydrated specimen was manufactured. The it was investigated to appropriate calcination temperature in sol-gel process which hydrated specimen of gel powder have proven to strength and the effect of factors influenced strength in hydration process. The major product of before and after hydration reaction was hydroxyapatite, and crystalline phase of C-S-H was already formed during gelation process. After hydration reaction of pressed specimen, crystalline phase of C-S-P-H was formed. It was hydrated product of silicocarnotite (5CaO.P2O5.SiO2). Gel phases of C-S-H and C-S-P-H occured as a result of partial substitution of amorphous silica by P2O5 was formed. The strength of hydrated hardened body is developed by strong bonding and bridging between the gel phases of C-S-H or C-S-P-H and the crystalline products such as hydroxyapatite, Ca(OH)2 C-S-H and C-S-P-H. In addition, the ultrafine gel powder have an great effect on increase of hydration reaction.
In this study, the reaction mechanism of ethane and the reaction rate equation suitable for hydrocarbon reforming were studied. Through the reaction mechanism analysis, it was confirmed that three reactions (CO2 + H2, C2H6 + H2, C2H6 + H2O) proceed during the reforming reaction of ethane, each reaction rate (CO2+H2($r=3.42{\times}10-5molgcat.-1\;s-1$), C2H6+H2($r=3.18{\times}10-5mol\;gcat.-1s-1$), C2H6+H2O($r=1.84{\times}10-5mol\;gcat.-1s-1$)) was determined. It was confirmed that the C2H6 + H2O reaction was a rate determining step (RDS). And the reaction equation of this reaction can be expressed as r = kS * (KAKBPC2H6PH2O) / (1 + KAPC2H6 + KBPH2O) (KA = 2.052, KB = 6.384, $kS=0.189{\times}10-2$) through the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model. The obtained equation was compared with the derived power rate law without regard to the reaction mechanism and the power rate law was relatively similar fitting in the narrow concentration change region (about 2.5-4% of ethane, about 60-75% of water) It was confirmed that the LH model reaction equation based on the reaction mechanism shows a similar value to the experimental value in the wide concentration change region.
While investigating the Lauricella's list of 14 complete second-order hypergeometric series in three variables, Srivastava noticed the existence of three additional complete triple hypergeo-metric series of the second order, which were denoted by $H_A$, $H_B$ and $H_C$. Each of these three triple hypergeometric functions $H_A$, $H_B$ and $H_C$ has been investigated extensively in many different ways including, for example, in the problem of finding their integral representations of one kind or the other. Here, in this paper, we aim at presenting further integral representations for the Srivatava's triple hypergeometric function $H_C$.
