Optimization of Growth Gases for the Low-temperature Synthesis of Carbon Nanotubes (탄소나노튜브의 저온성장을 위한 합성가스의 최적화 연구)

  • This study investigated the growth characteristics of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by changing a period of annealing time and a $C_{2}H_{2}/H_2$ flow ratio at temperature as low as $450^{\circ}C$ with inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition. The 1-nm-thick Fe-Ni-Co alloy thin film served as a catalyst layer for the growth of CNTs, which was thermally evaporated on the 15-nm-thick Al underlayer deposited on the 50-nm-thick Ti diffusion barrier. The annealing at low temperature of $450^{\circ}C$ brought about almost no granulation of the catalyst layer, and the CNT growth was not affected by a period of annealing time. A study of changing the flow rate of $C_{2}H_{2}$ and $H_2$ showed that as the ratio of the $C_{2}H_{2}$ flow rate to the $H_2$ flow rate was lowered, the CNTs were grown to be longer With further decreasing the flow ratio, the length of CNTs reached the maximum and then became shorter. Under the optimized gas flow rates, we successfully synthesized CNTs with a uniform length over a 4-inch Si wafer at $450^{\circ}C$.

Mechanism of Soil Remediation in Contaminated Area Using Vertical Drains (연직배수재(VDs)에 의한 오염지반정화 메커니즘 연구)

  • In-situ soil remediation mechanism through the vertical drains (VDs) is analyzed with numerical model as the error and complementary error function. Results from in-situ test and analysis indicate that the contaminant concentration ratio as initial one ( C/$C_0$) increases as the radius ratio ( r/R) increases from the injection well, and also increases as the depth ratio ( z/ H) increases from the top of contaminated area. The elapse time needed to attain $50\%$ and $90\%$ clean up level ($ t_{50},\;t_{90}$) increases as the radius ratio ( r/R) and the depth ratio ( z/ H) increase. As above results, the procedure of soil flushing in contaminated area using vertical drains makes progress from the top of injection well to the bottom of extraction well.

Effect of Forging Condition on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties in Centrifugal Casted Heat Resistant Steel (원심주조된 내열강의 미세조직 및 기계적성질에 미치는 단조 조건의 영향)

  • The effect of forging start temperature, forging ratio on the microstructure and mechanical properties of B7B4 steel ware investigated. Microstructure of centrifugal casted B7B4 steel consisted of martensite and ferrite phase. The volume fraction of ferrite increased with increase of forging start temperature and decreased with increase of forging ratio. Tensile strength and hardness decreased with higher of forging start temperature, while impact value and elongation increased with higher of forging start temperature. With increase of forging ratio, tensile strength rapidly increased up to the forging ratio of 30%, and then slowly increased, but elongation was decreased. Hardness and impact value rapidly increased with increase of forging ratio.

Effect of SiO$_2/Al_2O_3$ Ratio of HZSM-5 Catalyst on the Synthesis of Methyl tert-butylether (Methyl tert-Butylether 合成에 미치는 HZSM-5 觸媒의 SiO$_2/Al_2O_3$ 比의 영향)

  • Methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE) was synthesized from vapor phase reaction of methanol with iso-butylene over HZSM-5 catalysts, and effects of SiO$_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio in the HZSM-5 catalysts and reaction conditions on products distribution have been examined. Acid strength and acid type of each catalyst with different SiO$_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio were measured using pyridine adsorption followed by temperature programmed desorption(TPD) and IR analysis. Reactants and products adsorption characteristics on different acid sites have also been examined. As the SiO$_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio of HZSM-5 catalyst was increased, selectivity to MTBE was improved as a result of decrease in dimethylether(DME) formation at the strong acid sites. Conversion and selectivity to MTBE were also greatly enhanced as $i-C_4H_8/CH_3OH$ reactant ratio was increased, and overall about 80$^{\circ}$C was adequate for the MTBE synthesis. The properties of deposited coke on spent catalysts were examined by TG, DTA and IR spectrum analysis, indicating the amount of the coke deposit in the order of HY > H-Mordenite > HZSM-5. Even if the coke deposited on H-Mordenite was little more in amount than to that on HZSM-5, the former deactivated quickly due to its non-interconnected channel structure. For HY, owing to its lange pore size, significant $i-C_4H_8$ polymerization was occured, and rapid deactivation and severe coke formation has resulted within few hours.

Tip Gap Flow and Aerodynamic Loss Generation over a Cavity Squealer Tip with the Variation of Pressure-Side Opening Length in a Turbine Cascade (스퀼러팁의 압력면 개방길이 변화에 따른 터빈 익렬 팁간극 유동 특성 및 압력손실)

  • The effect of pressure-side opening length on three-dimensional flow fields and aerodynamic losses downstream of a cavity squealer tip has been investigated in a turbine rotor cascade for the squealer rim height-to-chord ratio and tip gap height-tochord ratio of $h_{st}/c$ = 5.05% and h/c = 2.0% respectively. The opening length-to-camber ratio is changed to be $OL/c_c$ = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, and 0.7 The results show that longer OL leads not only to weaker secondary flow but also to lower aerodynamic loss in the tip leakage vortex region, while it significantly widens the area with high aerodynamic loss in the passage vortex region. The aerodynamic loss coefficient mass-averaged all over the measurement plane is kept almost constant for $0.0{\leq}OL/c_c{\leq}0.3$, whereas it increases rapidly for $OL/c_c$ > 0.3 in proportion to $OL/c_c$. There is little deterioration in flow turning with increasing $OL/c_c$.

Am Experimental Study on Measurement of Number Density and Temperature Distributions in $C_3H_8/O_2$ Flame by UV Laser Rayleigh Scattering (UV Laser Rayleigh Scattering을 이용한 $C_3H_8/O_2$ 화염에서 가스 성분의 농도 및 온도 분포 계측에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Rayleigh Scattering Cross Sections($\sigma$i) of various gases and the temperature distributions of premixes C3H8/O2 flame are measured by high power KrF(248nm) Exci- mer laser and ICCD camera. Results show that $\sigma$i of O2 and Propane(C3H8) gases agree well in the 5% error range, but of H2 has the more or less difference from the calcul- ated value by other groups. This is attributed to the low RS signal of H2 to Nosie level(S/N ratio). The temperature distributions of flame range out between 300K in the air and about 2000K in the burned area. In this temperature range, out system has the about 250K temperature resolution. Because low RS signals in the reaction area with high temperature are affected highly by noises, temperature uncertainty of this area is relatively high to another part of flame. Experimental results show that UV Rayleigh Scattering can be used for the measurement of mixing ratio of mixed gases and the temperature distributions of flame. Especially, this technique can be applied for the measurement of the mixing ratio of air/fuel before the ignition and the flame structure after the ignition inside the Engine.

Numerical Analysis on the Pressure Characteristics in a Snubber for Hydrogen Compressor (수소압축기용 스너버 내부 압력특성에 관한 수치해석)

  • The objective of this study is to find the optimum design of a snubber using CFD analysis. Several dimensions such as snubber height(H), snubber diameter(D), buffer width and buffer angle are considered in this study. The present study shows that the CFD can be applied to study the pressure characteristics inside the snubber. The objective of the snubber design optimization are to minimize a pressure loss and the pulsation ratio. Numerical results such as particle track, pressure distribution and turbulent kinetic energy are used to analyze the critical area and pressure behavior inside the snubber. As a result, snubber model with H/D ratio of 3.23 and buffer angle of $40^{\circ}$ has a minimum pressure loss. On the other hand, snubber model with H/D ratio 4.41 and buffer angle $10^{\circ}$ has a minimum pulsation ratio.

A Study on Serum Dopamine-${\beta}$-Hydroxylase Activity and Thermostability in a Randomly Selected Population of Adults (정상인 혈청 Dopamine-${\beta}$-Hydroxylase 활성도 및 Thermostability에 관한 검토)

  • Distributions of serum dopamine-${\beta}$-hydroxylase(DBH) activity and thermostability in a randomly selected population of Korean adults were studied to investigate the genetic factor which could exert an influence on the serum DBH activity and thermostability. The results were followings: 1. The mean serum DBH activity in a randomly selected population of adults was $18.3{\pm}4.5$ umol/min/l($mean{\pm}SD;n=327$) which showed no age or sex variation. 2. The frequency distribution showed no isolated subgroup with very low serum DBH activity. 3. When the ratio of enzyme activity after heating $55^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes to that before heating (heated-to-control or H/C ratio). was used as a measure of thermostability, the mean serum DBH H/C ratio in a randomly selecfld population, of adults was $0.90{\pm}0.17(mean{\pm}SD; n=327)$ which showed no age or sex variation. 4. Serum DBH H/C ratio showed unimodal, homogeneous distribution. 5. There was significant negative correlation between serum DBH activity and H/C ratio(r=-0.39. p<0.01). 6. Subjects with H/C ratio less than 0.1 had significantly higher basal enzyme activity $(22.2{\pm}4.5)$ $(mean{\pm}SD;n=33)$ umo1/min/1 than those with H/C ratio more than 1.09 $(15.5{\pm}3.3)$ $(mean{\pm}SD;n=32)$ umo1/min/1. This study shows that the distribution patterns of serum DBH activity and thermostability of Korean population are considerably different from those of Caucasian and it might be a line of evidence for the different inheritance pattern of plasma DBH enzyme between these racial groups.

pH-Temperature Dependence of the Ca-ATPase Activity in Actomyosin Systems of Rabbit and Frog Skeletal muscle (Actomyosin $Ca^{++}$ Activated Adenosinetriphosphatase 활성도에 대한 pH 및 온도의 영향)

  • The activity of the $Ca^{++}$ activated adenosinetriphosphatase (Ca-ATPase) of actomyosin systeme of rabbit and frog skeletal muscle has been studied at varying pH and temperature. The PH optima of the Ca-ATPase activity of the rabbit actomyosin was rather broad. Over the temperature range of $16-36^{\circ}C$ activity of the enzyme was not appreciably changed between pH 6.4-8.5; below and above which it rapidly reduced. The pH at the inflection point of the enzyme activity increased as temperature decreased, showing the ${\bigtriangleup}pH\;inflection/{\bigtriangleup}T$ of approximately $-0.018\;unit/^{\circ}C$. Consequently, $(OH^-)/(H^+)$ ratio at the inflection point was constant regardless of assay temperature. In the frog actomyosin systems the Ca-ATPase activity was not apparently altered between PH 6.4-7.0 when the incubation temperature was $15{\sim}30^{\circ}C$. Outside of this range of pH, however, the enzyme activity was dramatically decreased. The pH of the inflection point changed inversely with temperature. ${\bigtriangleup}pH\;inflection/{\bigtriangleup}T$ at the acidic side was approximately $-0.018\;unit/^{\circ}C$, whereas that at the alkaline side it was about $-0.037\;unit/^{\circ}C$. The Arrhenius Plot on the Ca-ATPase activity at constant $(OH^-)/(H^+)$ ratio of 1.0 was not linear, but showed break at arround $20^{\circ}C$ for both rabbit and frog actomyosin Preparations. From these results it was speculated that pH dependence of Ca-ATPase activity of rabbit actomyosin systems might reflect titrations of histidine-imidazole and -SH groups, and that of the frog actomyosin represents titrations of histidine-imidazole and lysyllysine ${\alpha}-NH_2$ groups.
