A Novel Procedure for Protection Setting in an HVDC System Based on Fault Quantities

  • HVDC protection setting is difficult to be calculated analytically because of its strong nonlinearity. The currently used setting method is based on the empirical setting of previous projects and then verified by digital simulation. It entails a huge workload and low efficiency. To facilitate protection setting, this paper systematically summarizes the HVDC protection characteristics and then presents a classification of HVDC protections according to the protection principles. On the basis of the fault quantities, a novel setting procedure suitable for travelling wave protection, derivative and level protection, and differential protection is proposed. The proposed procedure is illustrated and verified in detail with the example of travelling wave protection. An HVDC protection setting system that has the functions of automatic protection setting and data management is developed utilizing the C# programming language.

Clock Skew Optimization Using Link-Edge Insertion (연결-에지 추가 기법을 이용한 클락 스큐 최적화)

  • An efficient algorithm for clock skew optimization is proposed in this paper. It construct a new clock routing topology which is the generalized graph model while previous methods uses tree-structured routing topology. Edge-insertion technique is used in order to reduce the clock skew. A link-edge is inserted repeatedly between two sinks whose delay difference is large and the distance is small. As a result, the delay of a sink which has the longer delay is decreased and the clock skew is reduced. The proposed algorithm is implemented in C programming language. From the experimental results, we can get the total wire length minimization under the given skew bound.

A Design of the Active Web Server Supporting Synchronous Collaboration in the Web-Based Group Collaboration Systems (웹 기반 그룹 협동 시스템에서 동기화된 협동을 지원하기 위한 능동형 웹 서버 설계)

  • The web-based group collaborative systems are emerging as enterprise-wide information systems. Since data in group collaborative systems are apt to be shared among multiple concurrent users and modified simutaneously by them, the web-based group collaborative systems must support synchronous collaboration in order to provide users with synchronized and consistent views of shared data. This Paper proposes an active web server which can facilitate synchronous collaboration in web-based group collaborative systems. To accomplish such a goal, the active web server manages dependency relationships between shared data and web browsers referencing them and actively propagates changing details of the shared data to all web browsers referencing them. And, this paper examines usefullness and effectiveness of the active web server to apply it to the ball-bearing design example of concurrent engineering design systems. The prototype system of the active web server is developed on a commercial Object-oriented Database Management System (ODBMS) called OBJECTSTORE using the C++ programming language.

  • In this study, we investigated a cooperative control system of assembly robots using wireless LAN. We developed two different types of robots to assemble three blocks on a workbench. Robot1 can assemble blocks on a workbench and Robot2 can carry blocks to Robot1. We constructed an ROS-based communication system and shared data. Three blocks and one workbench were recognized by camera-image processing By developing the UI using Windows programming language Visual C#, we evaluated the status of the robots and blocks and controlled the robots. The control system was developed by constructing all elements necessary for cooperative control, such as robot design and fabrication, motor control, ROS-based communication, and image processing. Thus, we completed fundamental tasks required for assembly.

  • Traditionally, simulation method is used to test and evaluate the performance of communication protocol or functional elements for mobile communication service. In this paper, wireless network simulator is implemented using the C++ object-oriented programming language. This simulator can simulate wireless data services, like as ad-hoc networks, by considering the user's mobility. In this paper, the simulator includes network traffic model to reflect wireless data service and traffic source model to represent a user's mobility similar to real service environment and traffic characteristics can be reflected on the simulation, and also more accurate simulation results can be got through that. In addition, by using object-oriented techniques, new service feature or environment can be easily added or changed so that the developed mobile communication simulator can reflect the real service environment all the time. This simulator can be used in adjusting the characteristics of wireless data hosts following the mobility of the user, and also can be used in building new wireless ad-hoc network routing protocols.

  • 최근 차세대 Web 기술로서 Semantic Web이 주목 받고 있다. Semantic Web에서는 Web상에 존재하는 문서에 Web Resource들에 대한 Ontology를 기반으로 Semantic Annotation을 하고 Ontology 추론 Agent를 통하여 의미 기반으로 Web을 검색할 수 있도록 해준다. 이와 같은 Semantic Web 기술의 핵심 요소는 Web Ontology이며 W3C에서는 이를 표현 할 수 있는 표준 언어로서 RDF기반의 OWL(Web Ontology Language) 명세를 제정하고 있다. 따라서 표준 Web Ontology 언어인 OWL을 위한 추론 시스템은 Semantic Web 검색 Agent의 구현을 위한 필수적인 기반 기술이라 할 수 있으나 아직 그 개발이 미비한 상태이다. OWL 추론 시스템을 구현하기 위해서는 OWL의 이론적인 기반을 제공하는 DL(Description Logic)을 추론할 수 있는 엔진을 사용하는 것이 한가지 방법이 될 수 있으나 OWL이 Rule과 같은 DL의 범주를 벗어나는 Vocabulary를 지원하는 언어로 확장되는 경우에 이를 처리하기가 어렵다. 또 다른 방법으로서 Logic Programming을 통하여 OWL 언어의 Semantic을 기술하고 정리 증명(Theorem Proving)을 통하여 Ontology를 추론하는 공리화(Axiomatisation) 기법이 있는데 이러한 방법의 장점은 기반이 되는 Logic의 범주 내에서 새로운 언어를 위한 Vocabulary의 확장이 용이하다는 점이다. 본 논문에서는 Axiomatisation 방법을 이용하여 OWL로 기술된 Ontology를 추론할 수 있는 시스템의 설계 및 구현에 대해 설명하기로 한다.

  • Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller tuning is an area of interest for researchers in many areas of science and engineering. This paper presents a new algorithm for PID controller tuning based on a combination of bacteria foraging and particle swarm optimization. BFO algorithm has recently emerged as a very powerful technique for real parameter optimization. To overcome delay in an optimization, combine the features of BFOA and PSO for tuning the PID controller. This new algorithm is proposed to combine both the algorithms to get better optimization values. The real time prototype model of paper machine is designed and controlled by using PIC microcontroller embedded with the programming in C language.

  • In developing an Expert System(ES), there are two ways. One is to develop an ES using AI(artificial Intelligence) languages and another using ES-development tools. CLIPS is an ES-development tool and has a powerful inference engine in it. Using the tool like CLIPS, knowledge engineer can concentrate on constructing a knowledge base without wasting time in developing an inference engine. However, CLIPS is lack of user-friendly interfaces for both knowledge enginners and users. Because CLIPS was developed in USA, it can not afford to use Korean language. Therefore, several user-friendly interfaces including hmenu, htille, hpcxdisplay were develpoed and added to CLIPS. CLIPS with the interfaces is called HCLIPS(Hangul CLIPS) in this paper. HCLIPS provides a new I/O device to be utilized for expert systems in Korean. HCLIPS can be efficiently used for developing expert systems in agriculture and consulting farmers interactively who are not familiar with computer programming and ES itself.

  • With the increase of sensitive data and their secure transmission and storage, the use of encryption techniques has become widespread. The performance of encoding majorly depends on the computational time, so a system with less computational time suits more appropriate as compared to its contrary part. Double Random Phase Encoding (DRPE) is an algorithm with many sub functions which consumes more time when executed serially; the computation time can be significantly reduced by implementing important functions in a parallel fashion on Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). Computing convolution using Fast Fourier transform in DRPE is the most important part of the algorithm and it is shown in the paper that by performing this portion in GPU reduced the execution time of the process by substantial amount and can be compared with MATALB for performance analysis. NVIDIA graphic card GeForce 310 is used with CUDA C as a programming language.
