  • The requirements for automated handing of business process and its monitoring usually have a proprietary form for each enterprise. Unlike the conventional database transaction, business process takes long time for its completion and incorporates very complex handling logics along with business situations. Since those handling logics are frequently changing in accordance with the business policies or environment, enterprises want to integrally capture the whole business semantics while monitoring those process instances. In this paper, we adopted GMA(Grid Monitoring Architecture) for the integrated monitoring of business processes. The GMA(Grid Monitoring Architecture) is a very scalable architecture to effectively monitor and manage monitoring information under the heterogeneous environment. By introducing complex event handling features into GMA to support various processing logics, we could implement a system that enables automated execution and high-level monitoring of business processes.

  • The scope of the problems that could be solved by monitoring and the improvement of the recognition time is directly correlated to the performance of the management function of the business process. However, the current monitoring process of business activities decides whether to apply warnings or not by assuming a fixed environment and showing expressions based on the design rules. Also, warnings are applied by carrying out the measuring process when the event attribute values are inserted at every point. Therefore, there is a limit for distinguishing the range of occurrence and the level of severity in regard to the new external problems occurring in a complicated environment. Such problems cannot be ed. Also, since it is difficult to expand the range of problems which can be possibly evaluated, it is impossible to evaluate any unexpected situation which could occur in the execution period. In this paper, a process-evaluating model based on the goal scenario is suggested to provide constant services through the current monitoring process in regard to the service demands of the new scenario which occurs outside. The new demands based on the outside situation are analyzed according to the goal scenario for the process activities. Also, by using the meta-heuristic algorithm, a similar process model is found and identified by combining similarity and interrelationship. The process can be stopped in advance or adjusted to the wanted direction.

  • Based on a complex event processing technique, an event analysis method for Business Activity Monitoring(BAM) is developed to provide an early warning for on-going events so that process managers effectively detect and monitor potential risks prior to the completion of the events. In this study, process-based event monitoring procedures to extract events with significant risks are presented; Complex event patterns are defined from historical event log data and risks of events are evaluated based on the patterns. A process-based event monitoring architecture for BAM is also presented. The proposed method has been applied to a service process of a home shopping company.

  • In this paper, the business process was easily modeled by distinguishing between the business process and work logic. Based on this model, B2Bi collaboration Workflow modeling tool, which facilitates collaboration, was designed and implemented. The collaboration workflow modeling tool consists of 3 components; business process modeling tool, execution engine and monitoring tool. First, a business process modeling tool is used to build a process map that reflects the business logic of an application in a quick and accurate manner. Second an execution engine provides a real-time execution environment for business process instance. Third, a monitoring tool provides a real-time monitoring function for the business process that is in operation at the time. In addition to this, it supports flexibility and expandability based on XML and J2EE for the linkage with the legacy system that was used previously, and suggests a solution for a new corporate strategy and operation.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel approach to fault prediction for real-time business process monitoring method using extended KNN imputation based LOF prediction. Existing rule-based approaches to process monitoring has some limitations like late alarm for fault occurrence or no indicators about real-time progress, since there exist unobserved attributes according to the monitoring phase during process executions. To improve these limitations, we propose an algorithm for LOF prediction by adopting the imputation method to assume unobserved attributes. LOF of ongoing instance is calculated by assuming next probable progresses after the monitoring phase, which is conducted during entire monitoring phases so that we can predict the abnormal termination of the ongoing instance. By visualizing the real-time progress in terms of the probability on abnormal termination, we can provide more proactive operations to opportunities or risks during the real-time monitoring.

  • Recently, many companies and organizations are interested in predictive process monitoring for the efficient operation of business process models. Traditional process monitoring focused on the elapsed execution state of a particular process instance. On the other hand, predictive process monitoring focuses on predicting the future execution status of a particular process instance. In this paper, we implement the function of the business process remaining time prediction, which is one of the predictive process monitoring functions. In order to effectively model the remaining time, normalization by activity is proposed and applied to the predictive model by taking into account the difference in the distribution of time feature values according to the properties of each activity. In order to demonstrate the superiority of the predictive performance of the proposed model in this paper, it is compared with previous studies through event log data of actual companies provided by 4TU.Centre for Research Data.

  • This paper proposes a methodology to measure the risk level in real-time for Business Activity Monitoring (BAM). A decision-tree methodology was employed to analyze the effect of process attributes on the result of the process execution. In the course of process execution, the level of risk is monitored in real-time, and an early warning can be issued depending on the change of the risk level. An algorithm for estimating the risk of ongoing processes in real-time was formulated. Comparison experiments were conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. The proposed method detects the risks of business processes more precisely and even earlier than existing approaches.

  • c-PMS(collaborative project management system) is a business process(BP) based tool to manage collaborative projects which accomplish common business objectives determined by mutual agreement of companies using limited resources and time. This study analyzes collaborative BP, collaborative projects, and their relation, and proposes the architecture and operation scenario of c-PMS consisted of business process asset management(BPAM) sub-system and project manage(PM) sub-system. BPAM sub-system models private and public BP using a client/server based modeler, defines collaborative BPs process from public BPs, and manages them as companies' asset on a web portal. PM sub-system globally manages collaborative project using planning, execution, monitoring, and analyzing functions.

  • A variety of BPM (Business Process Management) standards to achieve interoperability among heterogeneous systems have been released. Areas of BPM standards include business process modeling, process execution and management, and monitoring and controlling. The purpose of this research is to develop an adoption strategy and guideline for implementing BPM standards. We suggest a strategy for implementing BPMN (Business Process Modeling Notation), BPEL (Business Process Execution Language), and BPQL (Business Process Query Language) and provide a specific implementation guideline for developing BPM solutions using each standard. We expect that BPM vendors can establish their own strategy for adopting BPM standards and implement BPM solutions efficiently and effectively with the help of the strategy and guideline described in this paper.
