  • This study raised the necessity of developing performance indicators for measuring the management efficiency and effectiveness of school food service, and as a means of helping its implementation, a balanced score card (BSC) approach developed by Norton and Kaplan was adopted. This study established BSC in seven phases through literature: Phase 1 Defining a school food service and the scope of working activities, Phase 2 Establishing the vision of a school food service, Phase 3 Setting strategic goals, Phase 4 Identifying critical success factors (CSFs), Phase 5 Developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Phase 6 Extracting cause and effect relationship, and Phase 7 Completing a preliminary BSC. The preliminary BSC was fumed into a survey, which was administered to food service related people working at the Office of Education and School Food Service including 16 offices,209 dietitians, 48 school administrators both from self-operated and contract-managed, and 9 experts in areas related to school food service. They were asked questions about strategies from 4 different perspectives,12 CSFs, 39 KPls, and the cause and effect relationships among them. As a result, among the CSFs based on 4 different perspectives, all factors other than ' zero sum on profit/loss ' from the financial perspective turned out to be valid. In terms of KPIs, manufacturing cost percentages, casualty loss count/reduction rates, school foodervice participation rates, and sales goal achievement rates were found to be valid from the financial perspective, while student satisfaction index, faculty satisfaction index, leftover ratio, nutrition educational performance count, index of evaluating nutrition education, customer claim count/reduction rate, handling customer claim count/reduction rate, and parent satisfaction index were found to be valid from the customers' perspective. Besides, nutritional requirement sufficient ratio, nutritional management score, food poisoning outbreak count, employee safety accident count, sanitary inspection assessment index, meals per labor hour (productivity index), computerization ratio, operational management index, and purchase management assessment index were also found to be valid from the perspective of internal business processes. From the perspective of innovation and learning, employee turnover ratio/rate of absenteeism, annual education and training count, employee satisfaction index, human resource management assessment index, annual menu-related customer feedback, food service information index for employees and parents/schools were also found to be valid. The significance of this study is to present indices for measuring overall performance of school lunch food service operations without putting any limitation on types of school food service management, and to help correctly assess the contribution of the current types of school food service management to schools and students. • OMTP (Open Mobile Terminal Platform) is a global forum made by telecommunications providers to promote user-oriented mobile services and data business. Devised by OMTP, BONDI is a browser-based application or a mobile web run-time platform to help widgets make good use of functions of mobile devices in a secure way. BONDI enables applications programmed with web standard technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and AJAX to reach the internal functions of mobile devices. Since BONDI, which is not just a simple network application, can reach the internal resources of devices in standard ways, it enables the application and widgets to be developed regardless of tile OS or platform. Web browser-based widgets are vulnerable to the network environment, and their exeeution speed can be slowed as the operations of the widgets or applications become heavy. However, those web widgets will be continuously used thanks to the user-friendly simple interface and the faster speed in using web resources more than the native widgets inside the device. This study suggested a method to effectively operate and manage the resource of OMTP BONDI web widget and then provided an improved result based on a running performance evaluation experiment. The experiment was carried to improve the entire operating time by enhancing the module-loading speed. In this regard, only indispensable modules were allowed to be loaded while the BONDI widget was underway. For the purpose, the widget resource list, able to make the operating speed of the BONDI widget faster, was redefined while a widget cache was employed. In addition, the widget box, a management tool for removed widgets, was devised to store temporarily idle widgets.

  • The United Kingdom has a well-developed and comprehensive information infrastructure which has grown up over many years, but in the strict sense it has no coherent body of policy relating to information collection, storage, provision and supply. However, each of the governmental, professional and other bodies which has any major involvement with information, has committees to run its affairs and develop its policies in relation to issues and problems in the field. In addition, a number of ad hoc committees and working parties, to discuss or deal with a current problem, or to monitor or advise on the conduct of a research or development project, show that there is a high degree of awareness. of what is happening in the field and that there are many opportunities for expressing any particular point of view. The need for good intelligence in business or industrial operations is now being more generally accepted, and in consequence the need for a director of intelligence is also seen. The director of information in an industrial setting is the information manager, who combines or has access to the skills of several disciplines, including library, data processing and communication skills as well as managerial. Recognition of the need for such persons has policy implications in terms of short-term training provision and long-term educational facilities for the emerging profession, as well as manpower planning implications.

  • The purpose of this study is, to analyze the recent trend of studies on SaaS(Software as a Service) in Korea and to suggest a direction for the future research. For this purpose, the relevant literatures published in Korea Citation Index and literatures presented in conferences were gathered. Among these literatures, total of 39 samples were selected and used in the systematic literature review. The result shows that the application of SaaS in actual operations of industries are widely proliferated. However, the studies on SaaS generally lacks in its number and types. For example, studies so far are only on field of engineering and technology. Considering the fact that SaaS is moving towards the service orientation, studies on SaaS should develop in the fields of policy, business, individual and society sides of studies. In addition, the existing studies uses different concepts of relations between SaaS and ASP(Application Service Provider), as well as, different definitions of SaaS. Lastly, our research analyzed the problems of utilization of SaaS and found that, the quality, performance and security are presented as the core of the problems.

  • With globalization and the development of information and communication technology, the supply chain is becoming more widespread and complex, which increases the occurrence and damage caused by supply chain risks. Supply chain risk management has a great impact on corporate performance through the analysis of risk factors and proactive and strategic approaches. This study aims to analyze the effects of supply chain risk factors on risk management strategies and corporate performance empirically. In the research model for empirical analysis, supply chain risk factors were classified into supply, demand, operation, network, and external environment, while the risk management strategies were divided into active and passive strategies, as well as financial and operational performance for corporate performance. The data obtained via the questionnaire were analyzed for the path of the structural equation model. As a result of the analysis, companies are actively pursuing risk management for internal risk factors, rather than external factors, in terms of internal and external risk factors, and it was found that these strategies have a significant effect on corporate performance. Therefore, in the future, companies should conduct risk management strategies more proactively and preemptively through a thorough analysis of various risk factors affecting business operations.

  • GIS is considered as a big industry or business in the field of applied sciences. Recently GIS market in Korea is growing rapidly for LBS, Telematics, Web-geographic information services. This paper attempts to focus on the interrelationship between GIS and geography, and the question of how geography emerged out of intellectual trends within GIS to examine possible contribution of geographers in GIS fields. The application of GIS appears to be largely technical in nature. It is important for the GIS operator and the consumer of GIS products to be aware of the geographical concepts that underpin GIS operations. Also it is seen that many departments of geography in Korea have attempted to actively adopt GIS into their education program, with aim to improve the status. GIS has promoted a shift towards applied geography from academic geography. GIS researchers and educators in geography are concerned not with technology, but with the basic concepts and the issues relating to its use, in comparison with other academic fields. It is the responsibility of geography community to make sure that our students receive a geographical education that includes problem-solving, critical thinking and technical capabilities. It is concluded that promoting GIS technology in geography curriculum is essential for the further expansion of geography within GIS and also for the survival of geography.

  • Recently, executives learned of the strategic impact that information systems (IS) and information technology (IT) could provide to their organizations. In other words, through IS/IT companies could squelch competition, secure suppliers, obtain customer loyalty, reduce the threat of new entrants, and identify new opportunities. Because of these potential benefits, organizations are investing ever-increasing amount of organizational resources in IS/IT to make their organizations as information-based ones. Information-based organizations depend largely upon computer hardwares and softwares for their ongoing operations and management. Thus, organizations must manage their information resources, especially hardwares and softwares very effectively to remain competitive. Information resource management (IRI) is a program of activities directed at making effective use of information technology within an organization. These activities cover from corporate IS/IT planning to application system development, implementation, and maintenance. In more detail, IRV activities include planning for and acquiring computer hardwares and communication equipments, planning for, selection, and management of software development projects, and re-engineering business processes as IS/IT are integrated into organizational management. Among these activities, planning for and acquisition of computer hardwares, and planning for and management of software projects are the most critical ones since these activities require enormous amount of such important corporate resources as money, people, and time. Furthermore, corporate's eventual success largely depends upon whether corporate's policy on IS/IT is effective one or not. Numerous approaches and concepts to specific IRM activities have been proposed. However, many organizations have experienced various problems in the process of applying these approaches to their IRM activities mainly because existing methodologies and guidelines are too general to adapt to each firm's unigue situation. Also, these approaches are having its own strengths and weaknesses. Thus, people in charge of organization's IRM policy should come up with effective guidelines to maintain his position very long. In this study, we reviewed some existing approaches for planning, evaluation, and acquisition of computer hardware. Then, real experiences from Taechang Steel Co., Ltd. located in Taegu, which is one of the largest Coil Service Centers in Korea, are discussed. The major purposes of the study are : (1) to discuss the tradeoffs of existing approaches on hardware evaluation and acquisition, (2) to provide a real experience of a company to facilitate the application of theoretical concepts to the real environment.

  • The globalization of services is closely related to other economic problems facing the world today. These are: 1) the globalization of economic activities, 2) the servicization of economic activities. The world economy is now move interconnected than at any time in its history. Investment decisions, production processes, labor market regulations and even environmental legislation made by one country or company affect other economies, other companies and the lives of individuals. In fact, it is nearly impossible to think of a country that is not connected to the world economy in some form or another and it is no exaggeration to state that globalization is already an unassailable fact. The fabric of our economy and the way we do business are changing. This change is the transformation from a marketplace on goods to one focused on services. That is to say, we live and work in a service-centered, service-sensitive economy. As a result of the globalization an servicization of economic activities, services require the globalization, and services are increasing their international trade, foreign investment, agreements, alliances, mergers and collaboration networks. It is quite obvious that services are affected by globalization ; but raising the question by how much leads us to the paradox of service globalization, services represent 70% of the most advances economies but only account for less than 25% of international trade and almost half of direct investment; mergers and takeovers. These figures create a paradox that can be explained by two reasons. First; the natural(the service relationship) and artificial difficulties(barriers to trade) faced by the service sector that inhibits globalization. Second, the non-inclusion in official statistics of the share of internationalized goods that are due to services, for example intra-firm trade or the service value incorporated into exported goods. If these were taken into account the service trade figures would be extremely different. The first explanation can be subdivided into a number of elements. The OECD identifies six reasons:services cannot be stored; client-supplies interaction requires local presence; most service firms are SEMs; products are highly differentiated; cultural differences are especially important in this field; and, finally, trade barriers and restrictions on local operations exist. However, despite all of this, globalization produces clear advantages to suppliers. Therefore, the objective of this study is to explore the main forms of service globalization and differences between that of goods, and is to identify distinctive aspects of service globalization within the framework of the global economy.

  • In managing shipping business, the concept of seaworthiness of the vessel has developed in accordance with the development of the shipping industry. However, despite of the development of the vessel's seaworthiness, marine accident has continuously occurred at sea. International Maritime Organization(IMO) has paid attention to the research and investigation of Human Error in shipping operations in addition to physical seaworthiness of the vessel. In 1994, IMO adopted the "International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention(ISM code)" of "SOLAS 1974" Annex, to take countermeasure against this human error. In 1999, Korea adopted the 'ISM Code' and then enacted the Maritime Safety Act (previously Maritime Traffic Safety Act). The Maritime Safety Act regulates necessary qualifications of the Human Resources of shipping companies for establishment and implementation of the safety management system. However, there has been a discrepancy between shipowners and ship management companies in interpreting the legislative texts, finally causing confusion. In this paper, I would like to examine the deficiencies in the regulation on the standard of qualifications of the Designated Person under the Maritime Safety Act and thereby suggest any possible improvements in it.
