Face/non-face channel fit comparison of life insurance company and non-life insurance company using social network analysis (소셜네트워크 분석을 활용한 생보사와 손보사의 대면/비대면 채널의 적합성 비교)

  • In this study, 1) we compare face channel and non-face channel of life insurance company and non-life insurance company with insurance employs' suitability opinion about channel type, channel property, channel evaluation items requiring when selling insurance products, 2) we construct two social networks for life insurance companies and non-life insurance companies and find/compare two networks' properties, and then want to suggest any direction about sale channel strategy. As the result of comparing social networks of life insurance company and non-life insurance company created by insurance selling channel fit evaluation, employs of life insurance companies have more common opinion than those of non-life insurance companies and so can have more same directional channel strategy. However, property insurance companies need to manage their own channel strategy based on their own circumstance.

  • Korean insurance companies recently started to understand that the customer satisfaction can be a critical role affecting sales performance and profit. A number of authors have reported and analyzed service quality factors in the auto insurance. The purpose of this research is to examine influence factors for the customer satisfaction in the auto insurance market. This study is assumed that customer satisfaction factors are composed of prices of service and corporate image as well as service quality factors. 249 questionnaires are gathered and analyzed from persons. The main findings of the empirical study are : First, the influence from prices of service and corporate image is higher than that from service quality factors, Second, repurchase of auto insurance highly correlated to recommendation intention.

  • In this paper, an approach for analyzing brand loyalty and brand switching behavior in car insurance market is presented. A two-choice model by Blumen, et al. that uses Markov chain is adopted as a main technique for estimating brand parameters. Survey data have been collected through personal interviews with questionnaires. Following the application of the model to the data, it is found that there are five leading companies in car insurance market where the number of potential brand switchers is larger than that of brand loyal customers. Therefore, differentiation of this product along with the conversion of this low-involvement product to a high-involvement one could make car insurance stand out against a somewhat undifferentiated field of competitors.

  • Bayesian and empirical Bayesian methods have become quite popular in the theory and practice of statistics. However, the objective is to often produce an ensemble of parameter estimates as well as to produce the histogram of the estimates. For example, in insurance pricing, the accurate point estimates of risk for each group is necessary and also proper dispersion estimation should be considered. Well-known Bayes estimates (which is the posterior means under quadratic loss) are underdispersed as an estimate of the histogram of parameters. The adjustment of Bayes estimates to correct this problem is known as constrained Bayes estimators, which are matching the first two empirical moments. In this paper, we propose a way to apply the constrained Bayes estimators in insurance pricing, which is required to estimate accurately both location and dispersion. Also, the benefit of the constrained Bayes estimates will be discussed by analyzing real insurance accident data.

  • Personal information is a requisite for financial transactions as well as a core asset of financial companies. However, as a side effect of the information society, personal information infringements have emerged as significant social risks, causing realized loss to individuals and companies. This study analyzes results of financial and emotional loss in terms of consumer loss and also presents usefulness of insurance in order to minimize such actual damages as a means of risk transfer. In addition, this study investigates components and premium calculation principles of compensation insurance against personal information invasion and finally presents policies to activate these insurance product. As a method of risk management, insurance not only is a useful tool to guarantee consumer protection and companies' financial soundness simultaneously but also provides a basis of quantitative measurement of IT risks.

  • Underwriting is the first step for the administration of an insurance contract, which may result in stable profitability or unexpected loss for insurance company. Adequacy of underwriting criteria determines underwriting result. Generally, quantitative scoring system is used for underwriting. Method of evaluating risk for the scoring system is summing up scores for risk factors of a potential policyholder in consideration. Scores for each risk factor is predetermined. Current business environment for insurance companies makes underwriting profit more important, which means that insurance companies need more efficient underwriting method. This study suggests a reasonable approach to estimate risk relativities based on generalized linear model. Real data were used to quantify risk levels of groups of insureds for the design of underwriting model. Finally, effects in business volume and profitability of reflecting estimated underwriting scoring system are explained.

  • This study researched text mining and text network analysis to analyze the images of Nonghyup Insurance for consumers. With the recent development of social media, many texts are being produced and reproduced, and texts of social media provide important information to companies. Text mining and text network analysis are used in many studies to identify image of company and product. As a result of the text analysis, the positive image of the Nonghyup Insurance is safety and stability. Negative images of the Nonghyup Insurance is concern and anxiety. As a result of the textual network analysis, Centered mage of Nonghyup Insurance is safety and concern. This paper allows researchers to extract several lessons learned that are important for the text mining and text network analysis.

Analysis on the Determinants of International Competitiveness in OECD Service Industries (OECD 국가의 서비스산업 경쟁력 결정요인 분석)

  • Our study aims to investigate the determinants of international competitiveness and international specialization in services, using OECD service trade data. Real exchange rates, world demand, economies of scale, diffusion of IT, human capital, R&D expenditure and institutional variables are introduced as explanatory variables in regressions for 29 OECO countries over $1996{\sim}2003$. Some of major findings from the study can be summarized as follows. First, economies of scale play important role in transport and business services. Second, the index of freedom to trade measured by Faster Institute has a positive and significant impact on international competitiveness in telecommunication, finance and insurance and business services. Third, IT provides favorable condition to build international competitiveness in finance and insurance and business services. Fourth, R&D expenditure contributes to the amelioration of international competitiveness in transport services, while investment in new equipments contributes to increasing the competitiveness in telecommunication services. Thus, our results show the importance of the industrial base for developing a competitive service economy.

  • We have more risks in international trade market than in the domestic business market because economic activities are going on with business transactions in different countries. K-sure's Refund Guarantee System is the most important system for Korean Small and Middle Shipbuilding Industries' business, but Korean exporters of Shipbuilding Industries are more interested in export financing through K-sure rather than its financial supporting services. The export insurance becomes more important service for international trade business and it its count as the only one indirect way of supporting export business because export insurance is accepted internationally under the WTO system. Also, it is the only measure that can cover emergency risk, credit risk, exchange risk which cannot be covered by private insurance. As the major risk manager for Korean exporters, the K-sure needs to provide an integrated risk management service for customers. Korean exporters can take more challenges in ever competitive international trade market and we can witness promotion of export in the future which is essential to Korea's economic growth.

  • Offshore trap fishery managers have payed in advance to attract excellent fishing crew in the minium grantee lay system. This practice can intensify competition among fishery management bodies and increase the burden of fishery manager about income tax and four social insurance programs. The purpose of this study is to identify the problems of advance payment practice in terms of fishery manager in offshore trap fishery. The main results of this study are as follows. First, under the TYPE 1 model, which is the current wage payment manner, there is a risk that fishery manager will not able to return the prepayment paid in advance when the income of fishery management bodies decrease. Second, the TYPE 2 or the TYPE 3 model which reduces or abolishes advance payment can alleviate the burden of fishery manager relative to the deduction of redemption amount, incentive to induce artificial expenses, income tax and four social insurance programs. In conclusion, advance payment practice in offshore trap fishery is placing a heavy burden on the fishery manager. In order to solve these problems in the future, we need to find solutions through similar case studies.
