  • Fashion has been affected by the change of periodic conditions. A good example is found in the relationship between fashion and periodic conditions before and after World War I in the U.S. During the pre-wartime, the artificial silhouette achieved through using devices like the corset was popular and then women's dresses were very decorative and gorgeous using a wide variety of details. S-curved silhouettes and Paul Poiret's style will be reviewed as distinctive shapes of pre-war fashion in the beginning of the 20th Century. In efficiency analysis of deep-sea fishing industry, the decision maker may have two problems: (1) how to deal with multiple inputs and outputs of deep-sea fishing industry and (2) how to assign the weights on different inputs and outputs, In this paper, we proposed to use Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to estimate efficiency of deep-sea fishing industry with multiple inputs and outputs. In the DEA, The direct impact of KORUS FTA, fishing regulation of coastal countries, fishing charges, and competitive fishing conditions were used as input parameters while the profitability and secured fishing quarters, as outputs. The results of DEA-BCC model indicate that 6 out of 12 DUMs have better efficiency under variable return to scale assumption.

  • While some steps in laver aquaculture production can be controlled artificially to a certain extent, the culturing process is largely affected by natural factors, such as the characteristics of seawater, climatic and oceanographic conditions, etc. This study aims to find a direct relationship between climatic and oceanographic factors (water temperature, air temperature, salinity, rainfall, sunshine duration and wind speed) and laver aquaculture production in Wando region, the biggest aquaculture production area of laver, located in the southwest coast of Korea using a multiple regression analysis. Despite the small sample size of a dependent variable, the goodness of model fit appeared acceptable. In addition, the R-squared value was 0.951, which means that the variables were very explanatory. Model results indicated that duration of sunshine, temperature, and rainfall during the farming period from the end of September to the end of April would be important factors affecting significantly to the laver aquaculture production.
