  • Geosmin removal by biodegradation was investigated in lab-scale slow sand filtration column with different empty bed contact times (EBCTs) and water temperature. Schmutzdecke layer was built up after 30 days operation and biomass and activity were $4.5{\times}10^6\;CFU/g$ and $3.42\;mg{\cdot}C/m^3{\cdot}hr$, respectively. The attached bio-film microorganisms in schmutzdecke layer were isolated and identified. The dominant species was Pseudomonas sp. that had occupied 56%. Removal efficiencies of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and geosmin were 27% and 95% after 30 days operation. In lab-scale slow sand filtration column, geosmin and DOC removal efficiencies were 62% and 10% at $5^{\circ}C$, respectively. And increasing water temperature ($15^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$) increased the geosmin and DOC removal efficiencies (88~100% and 25~42%) in lab-scale slow sand filtration column. Geosmin and DOC biodegradation rates (k) in the schmutzdecke layer (in the upper 5 cm filter bed) were $1.842{\sim}15.965\;hr^{-1}$1 and $0.253{\sim}1.123\;hr^{-1}$, respectively. It were about 18~32 times and 20~51 times of the rates in the deeper filter bed (5~60 cm).

  • Most of the industrial complexes and housing complexes in Busan and Gyeongnam were constructed by developing mountainous areas, except for some landfill areas. During the development process, the surplus soil for site development was mainly used as the embankment material. In the field, however, even if the material of the material changes during the embankment work for site development, for convenience reasons such as construction period and site conditions, the material property test and compaction test are not additionally conducted for the embankment material, and quality control is conducted. In this study, physical property tests and compaction tests were conducted on surplus soils in mountainous areas in Busan, GyungNam Province and then regression analysis was performed on the data. In addition, a comparative analysis was conducted along with existing studies in Korea. The surplus soils at the sites in Busan and Gyeongnam were mainly weathered soils of granites, and were classified into clayey sand (SC) and silty sand (SM). As a result of regression analysis of the compaction characteristics according to the content of coarse and fine soils, the correlation between them was very high. Using the relational formula as a result of this study, it will be very useful for compaction management of the surplus soils in the field.

  • Eelgrass, Zostera marina L. widely spreads throughout all the coastal areas of the Korean Peninsula. However, some previously reported eelgrass populations disappeared. The disappearance was probably caused by anthropogenic disturbance such as reclamation and pollutant or exceeded nutrient release. Eelgrass beds occurred from the intertidal to the subtidal zone, mainly in lagoon, estuaries, ports, barrier reef and bays. Eelgrass beds were also found at the intertidal mud and sand flats, subtidal mud and sandbank in more exposed areas. Habitat characteristics of eelgrass beds distributed on the coasts of the Korean Peninsula varied among coast areas. Eelgrass distributed constantly throughout the southern coast of Korea, while the distribution was limited at lagoon, bay, port, or barrier reef on the eastern coast, because of steep water depth and high wave energy in that coast. On the western coast, eelgrass mainly appeared at the intertidal and subtidal zones in islands. Sediment characteristics of the Z. marina beds varied with locality, tidal current and water motion. Sediments of Z. marina beds were composed of sand, muddy sand, sandy mud and mud. Mean grain size ranged from 1.5 to 4.1 phi.

  • In this study, sand compaction pile method was adopted to improve the soft ground under the permanent dyke, namely west sea dyke of Incheon New Port. The row replacement ratio 30% was applied to consider the ground condition, environmental side and the construction cost of the site. The stability and displacement analysis was carried out by respectively SLOPE/W and PLAXIS 2D program. Based on this analysis, it is found that the safety factor and displacement is within an allowable criteria. The model experiment was carried out using the acryl soil box with $400(H){\times}1200(L){\times}250(W)mm$ to show the displacement of the dyke and behavior of soft ground. Based on this experiment results, it is found that the settlement does not occur from 1 and 2 loading phases and horizontal displacement of 0.0075% occurs from 2 phases. It is also found that the differential settlement occurs 0.05mm corresponding respectively 0.02% and 0.03% of the dyke height(15cm).

  • Recently soil improvement methods are using in many ways such as costal and soft ground of inland. Among them, sand compaction pile be widely used because of quiet few advantages. There are two ways for quality evaluation method of sand compaction pile. Especially standard penetration test is used the most general method. However, Current method have problems in that it is not consider the condition of construction site. Therefore this study is propose new quality evaluation method. Relation of N-$\Phi$ is always not fixed but changing by condition of construction site. By through the Laboratory test we can know relationship between relative density and internal friction. Also this study propose revision for effective stress. From these study, we can acquire more accurate and reasonable result than current method.

  • The coastal sand dunes have transitional characteristics of marine and inland ecosystems, and they have abundant biodiversity. This study investigated flora and vegetation and analyzed the landscape structure at seven beaches in Busan metropolitan city. As a result, the vascular species of the coastal sand dunes in Busan were identified as 178 taxa of 140 families. Vegetation landscape was damaged to the extent that no natural vegetation was found in 4 of 7 beaches (57%). The coastal dune vegetation was dominated by the Carex pumila community and Carex kobomugi community. The halophyte and invasive alien species were classified into 18 taxa (10% of all species) and 40 taxa (22% of all), respectively. The vegetation that made up the largest area was the Phragmites communis community of the salt marsh, and the species number of halophyte increased as the wetland area increased. This means that the maintenance and management of salt marshes is important to conserve the unique plant diversity of the region.

  • In this study, an investigation of the shoreline changes at Song-do beach in Busan was carried out for a coastal improvement project to prevent damage from coastal disasters. From the results of the observed data, it is seen that the shoreline moves seaward under extreme wave conditions and moves leeward under normal wave conditions. The reason for this is wave run-up when wave conditions are extreme in summer. In addition, nourishment sand is moved seaward by wave run-up. Thus, the shoreline's slope is gently decreased. Therefore, the shoreline is moved seaward.

  • The objective of in this study makes investigation into the characteristics of concrete as to properties and blended ratio of crushed aggregates through experimental researches. In this research observed crushed quality characteristic of crushed aggregates that is produced in representative stony mountains of Busan suburbs (Yang-san, Kim-hea, Jin-hea). And wished to investigate the quality change and characteristics of concrete with variation of blend ratio of crushed sand(50, 60, 70, 80, 90, $100\%$). Measured the air contents and slump to investigate properties of fresh concrete, and unit weight and compressive strength in age of 7, 28, 60, 90 days to investigate properties of hardened concrete.

  • Busan-Geoje Fixed Link, total length of 8.2km, consist of bridge and immersed tunnel connects Gaduk island, Busan and Jangmokmyon, Geoje, in extension of the $58^{th}$ local road. The immersed tunnel, a total length of 3.7km within Busan-Geoje Fixed Link, was planed first timein domestic but the deep water depth like maximum of 50m with offshore conditions and the 35m thickness of soft clay layer under the immersed tunnel, migth be some problems like the differential settlement during or after works. So it was designed to install SCP(Sand Compaction Pile) column partially to improve the soft ground under the immersed tunnel. In this paper, it is presented to illustrate the design including ground condition under the immersed tunnel, improvement design, upheaval shape and ratio due to SCP test construction.
