Bus Information System (BIS) collects information related to the operation of buses and provides information to users through predictive algorithms. Method of predicting through recent information in same section reflects the traffic situation of the section, but cannot reflect the characteristics of the target line. The method of predicting the historical data at the same time zone is limited in forecasting peak time with high volatility of traffic flow. Therefore, we developed a pattern recognition bus arrival time prediction algorithm which could be overcome previous limitation. This method recognize the traffic pattern of target flow and select the most similar past traffic pattern. The results of this study were compared with the BIS arrival forecast information history of Seoul. RMSE of travel time between estimated and observed was approximately 35 seconds (40 seconds in BIS) at the off-peak time and 40 seconds (60 seconds in BIS) at the peak time. This means that there is data that can represent the current traffic situation in other time zones except for the same past time zone.

This study propose a method to predict the bus arrival time by considering the signal delay time which is an element which can not be considered in the current bus arrival prediction information generation algorithm. In order to consider the signal delay time, travel time is divided into three components: service time, cruising travel time, and signal delay time. Signal delay time was estimated using intersection arrival time and TOD. The results show that most of the errors that occurred in predicting the arrival time are within about 30 seconds. Some of the estimates have large errors due to the nature of this methodology that uses the estimated value of the intersection arrival time rather than the observation value. It is also difficult to predict the arrival time of the express buses using this method. Future studies such as improving this through real-time location information will greatly improve the accuracy of the methodology.
In this paper, we describe an arrival time guidance system of circular vehicles using GPS, CDMA and TCP/IP technology. The on-board equipment consists of a GPS receiver and a PDA phone. The on-board equipment sends the current position data of the vehicle to the positioning server via CDMA and Internet. The server predicts the arrival time to the next bus-stop. Any user can lookup the current position and the predicted arrival time of the vehicle utilizing his mobile phone, PDA phone, or Web.
To activate public transportation service, Bucheon City built Bus Information System based on Beacon type, and operates it for no.22 line. This research analyzes an effect of BIS operations, and mainly it analyzes far reliability evaluation of bus arrival time information and passenger satisfaction about BIS. As results of reliability evaluation of arrival time information service, it is proven to be practically inappropriate to use as arrival time data because it is not only travel time between each bus stop but also previous travel time history data. In order to improve this matter, neural network model was evaluated as the most outstanding one as result of experiment in applying current arrival time Prediction model. This research cannot help limiting for evaluation of operation effect in Bucheon City because there is no Bus Information System based on GPS type in Korea. For the future ITS model city, in the case of building ITS model city based on GPS type, it is possible to compare two systems relatively. In addition to that, fur the consideration of reliability of bus arrival time information, it is required to develop Predictable model and research factors that affect to bus operation.
In this paper, we propose a real-time bus arrival notification system using deep learning to guarantee movement rights for the visually impaired. In modern society, by using location information of public transportation, users can quickly obtain information about public transportation and use public transportation easily. However, since the existing public transportation information system is a visual system, the visually impaired cannot use it. In Korea, various laws have been amended since the 'Act on the Promotion of Transportation for the Vulnerable' was enacted in June 2012 as the Act on the Movement Rights of the Blind, but the visually impaired are experiencing inconvenience in using public transportation. In particular, from the standpoint of the visually impaired, it is impossible to determine whether the bus is coming soon, is coming now, or has already arrived with the current system. In this paper, we use deep learning technology to learn bus numbers and identify upcoming bus numbers. Finally, we propose a method to notify the visually impaired by voice that the bus is coming by using TTS technology.
The purpose of the paper is to analyze an effectiveness before and after implementation of the median arterial bus lanes operation. The paper includes a speed analysis based on the Downs-Thomson Paradox theory, and a reliability analysis based on variance analysis of arrival time. According to the speed analysis, some road sections are now under phase 2 according to the Downs-Thomson Paradox, which is a state in which the bus speeds are greater than the car speeds. In the future it is predicted that cars and buses will reach an equilibrium speed which is in phase 3 of the multi-modal equilibrium theory. According to the reliability analysis of arrival time at each bus stop, in roads of median arterial bus lanes. the variance of arrival time is generally smaller than after the scheme implemented in eight months later.
This paper analytically derives the variance of service time of a station in the symmetric IEEE 802.4 token bus network with single access class and finite buffer capacity. This performance measure is represented in terms of the total number of stations, the token hold time, the arrival rate of frames, the service rate, and other parameters. Using computer simulations, presented performance measure is validated.
After the integrated fare system has been applied, public transportation and transfer traffic increased. As a result, transfer passengers must be considered in the operation of the bus. Although previous studies have limitations due to utilizing deterministic mathematical models, which fails to reflect the stochastic movements of passengers and buses, in this study, a more realistic bus stop micro-simulation model is proposed. Based on the proposed simulation model, we represent the relationship between bus arrival interval and passenger wait time as a regression model and empirically show the differences between the cases with and without transfer passengers. Also, we propose a method converting passenger waiting time to cost and find optimal bus arrival interval based on the converted cost. It is expected the proposed method enables bottom-up decision making reflecting practical situation.
Buses arrive at a traffic intersection later than passenger cars by the amount of dwell time at previous bus stops. This late arrival of buses affects the total passenger delay at intersections especially in the street carrying large bus volume. The bus progression signal system in which the signal offset is given in favor of bus platoons was applied in the case area of Kangnam street in Seoul, and various effects were analyzed using the TRANSYT-7F simulation model. It was observed that the total passenger delay can be reduced significantly if the bus progression signal system is applied, and the most effective bus priority treatment is proved to be the bus progression signal system installed with exclusive bus lanes.
This paper derives the upper and the lower bound of the mean cycle time and the mean service time of the class 6 and the class 4, within which the minimum utilization constrain of the class 4 is guaranteed. Also, derived are conditions under which the token bus network is stable or unstable. These bounds and stable conditions are represented in terms of the high priority token hold time, the token rotation time and the arrival rate and the total station number etc. This paper suggest a parameter tuning algorithm in a partially symmetric token bus network with two classes, which maximizes the token rotation time for a suitable high priority token hold time and at the same time meets the stability condition of the network, the real time constraint and the minimum utilization constraint of the class 4.
