  • In terms of safety and the efficient management of spent fuel storage, detecting failed fuel is one of the most important tasks in a CANada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) reactor operation. It has been successfully demonstrated that in a CANDU reactor, on-power failed fuel detection and location systems, along with alarm area gamma monitors, can detect and locate defective and suspect fuel bundles before discharging them from the reactor to the spent fuel storage bay. In the reception bay, however, only visual inspection has been used to identify suspect bundles. Gaseous fission product and delayed neutron monitoring systems cannot precisely distinguish failed fuel elements from each fuel bundle. This study reports the use of a sipping system in a CANDU reactor for the integrity assessment of spent fuel bundles. The integrity assessment of spent fuel bundles using this sipping system has shown promise as a nondestructive test for detecting a defective fuel bundle in a CANDU reactor.

  • Due to the development of information technology, Convergence and Creative Economy became hot issues. For example, products become more intelligent and services are likely to be connected and integrated around core services or provided as bundle solution. Meanwhile products and services are integrated in the context of mutual supplementation, which leads to Servitization of Products and Productization of Services in many industries. Previous studies have addressed Convergence with different terms and definitions such as Convergent, Multicategory Multifunctional Product, Clouding Service, Bundle and so on from one perspective such as consumers, suppliers or technology according to a wide range of academic approaches. Thus, this study attempted to suggest the most typical convergence products released in the convergence environment and categorize those products. Furthermore, this study has pointed out the problems in the New Product Development Framework discussed in the studies on marketing by taking the situation of the public sector into account and then suggested "New Service Development Framework in the Public Sector" that are different from traditional e-Gov. approach basically and will enable the government to create public information service and provide them to enterprises or citizens. It also emphasized the importance of Business Conceptualization Stage in the framework; argued that there is a necessity of an integrative study from the perspective of technology on the basis of the approach from the perspective of marketing and Policy such as a study of consumer behaviors, design and marketing channel and Policy Integration for the development and dissipation; and furthermore suggested the cases-the development/Diffusion of Transportation Card Service in Seoul and CFC (Call for Collaboration) in Singapore-in order to verify the framework. There is a need to supplement New Service Development Framework so it is able to reflect the distinct characteristics of the public sector from the academic perspective and be used as practical guidelines for SI (System Integration) business to shift into IT Service business. Last but not the least, this study has suggested the limitations and the directions for the future studies.

  • The spectrum of the Laplacian matrix of a graph gives an information of the structure of the graph. For example, the product of non-zero eigenvalues of the characteristic polynomial of the Laplacian matrix of a graph with n vertices is n times of the number of spanning trees of that graph. The characteristic polynomial of the Laplacian matrix of a graph tells us the number of spanning trees and the connectivity of given graph. in this paper, we compute the characteristic polynomial of the Laplacian matrix of a graph bundle when its voltage lie in an abelian subgroup of the full automorphism group of the fibre; in particular, the automorphism group of the fibre is abelian. Also we study a relation between the characteristic polynomial of the Laplacian matrix of a graph G and that of the Laplacian matrix of a graph bundle over G. Some applications are also discussed.

  • Let X be a complex manifold of dimension n $n{\geqslant}2$ and let ${\Omega}{\Subset}X$ be a weakly q-convex domain with smooth boundary. Assume that E is a holomorphic line bundle over X and $E^{{\otimes}m}$ is the m-times tensor product of E for positive integer m. If there exists a strongly plurisubharmonic function on a neighborhood of $b{\Omega}$, then we solve the ${\bar{\partial}}$-problem with support condition in ${\Omega}$ for forms of type (r, s), $s{\geqslant}q$ with values in $E^{{\otimes}m}$. Moreover, the solvability of the ${\bar{\partial}}_b$-problem on boundaries of weakly q-convex domains with smooth boundary in $K{\ddot{a}}hler$ manifolds are given. Furthermore, we shall establish an extension theorem for the ${\bar{\partial}}_b$-closed forms.

  • Let ${\gamma}$(G) be the domination number of a graph G. It is shown that for any $k {\ge} 0$ there exists a Cartesian graph bundle $B{\Box}_{\varphi}F$ such that ${\gamma}(B{\Box}_{\varphi}F) ={\gamma}(B){\gamma}(F)-2k$. The domination numbers of Cartesian bundles of two cycles are determined exactly when the fibre graph is a triangle or a square. A statement similar to Vizing's conjecture on strong graph bundles is shown not to be true by proving the inequality ${\gamma}(B{\bigotimes}_{\varphi}F){\le}{\gamma}(B){\gamma}(F)$ for strong graph bundles. Examples of graphs Band F with ${\gamma}(B{\bigotimes}_{\varphi}F) < {\gamma}(B){\gamma}(F)$ are given.

Software Bundling for Competitive Advantage: Vendor Strategies and Public Policy Implications

  • As an engineered product, a software package has multiple dimensions that must be designed judiciously to enhance its competitive viability. Functionality, reliability and price are three such common dimensions. However, many software products are sold as bundles of individual components and the competitive impact of bundling has received less attention in the research literature. In this paper, we examine the implications of software vendors using bundling as an element of competitive strategy. A game theoretic model of the actions of an incumbent and a new entrant is developed and the impact on vendor and consumer welfare is analyzed. Numerical experiments with the model show that (i) increasing bundle size is an effective strategy for the incumbent to increase its payoff at the cost of the entrant's payoff and consumer surplus, especially when the entrant's quality is low (ii) in the presence of bundling, the entrant can still increase its own payoff and consumer surplus at the cost of the incumbent's payoff, by increasing product quality up to the level that best segments market demand with the incumbent and (iii) an increase in bundle size by the incumbent, or an increase in quality by the entrant, can both result in an increase of total surplus. Similar results are observed in a related case where the entrant offers free software bundles. Our results provide insights into how software vendors may strategically use bundling and quality as additional product dimensions in order to stay competitive in the market. These results also inform the competing vendors of the impact of bundling related public policy actions on their respective payoffs.

A Study on the Bundle Strategy through Attributes related to the Perceived Customer Value of Telecommunication Services (통신 서비스의 소비자 인지 가치 속성에 따른 결합 전략 연구)

  • This paper researches the value of domestic telecommunication bundle products. Customers evaluate each telecommunication products differently according to their attributes. The attributes affecting the customer value of telecommunication bundling can be categorized in 3 ones as follows; corporate image, service feature, and service price. Also authors analyze the difference of importancy that customers consider when they evaluate each products, and propose the optimal scenario for bundling. In conclusion, other two companies A, C excluding B should invest more resources into the portion that strengthen the attributes of company image, and service feature to upgrade their 'corporate image', and 'service feature'. According to 6-scenarios analysis on the bundle products, the QPS expansion of company A was the most advantageous position, but if companies B, C expand DPS made use of their strengths, they can prevent from decreasing additivity rapidly with sequential scenario. The above results show that one company may have equable power in each area, but if another company having strengths in special areas makes up for its weakness and differentiates gradually it can contribute to strengthen its competitiveness. This contributed much more theoretical and practical than the existing researches. Supposing that additivity index evaluated by consumers can be changed by efforts of companies, this scenario planning is the result of study showing that the investment and publicity of each company have to be considered as its characteristic of each product at the same time.

  • We investigate when the product of two smooth manifolds admits a weakly Lagrangian embedding. Prove that, if $M^m$ and $N^n$ are smooth manifolds such that M admits a weakly Lagrangian embedding into ${\mathbb}C^m$ whose normal bundle has a nowhere vanishing section and N admits a weakly Lagrangian immersion into ${\mathbb}C^n$, then $M \times N$ admits a weakly Lagrangian embedding into ${\mathbb}C^{m+n}$. As a corollary, we obtain that $S^m {\times} S^n$ admits a weakly Lagrangian embedding into ${\mathbb}C^{m+n}$ if n=1,3. We investigate the problem of whether $S^m{\times}S^n$ in general admits a weakly Lagrangian embedding into ${\mathbb} C^{m+n}$.

A Strategic Effect of Bundling on Product Distribution

  • Purpose - This study examines a bundling effect on production and distribution in a patent-protected industry. Despite the heavy use of bundling strategies in the information and technology industry, literature has paid scant attention to bundling of intellectual property rights. This study examines a theoretical exploration of the bundling effect on licensing behavior. Research design, data, and methodology - To address this behavior, we build a simplified model consisting of three stages: 1) bundling decision, 2) licensing agreement, and 3) competition. The subgame perfect Nash equilibrium is applied to the model. Results - A single-patent holder with superior technology grants its own license to the multiple-patent firm, thereby leaving the market. Anticipating the single right holder's licensing strategy, the multiple-patent firm offers a bundle, making the single-right holder's bargaining position weaker. Conclusions - Bundling is an effective business strategy, resulting in multiple products for a firm as it faces other firms with single-product lines in each market. Taking advantage of the multi-patent or multi-product lines, the firm utilizes the bundling strategy obtaining better technology from the standalone single-patent firms.
