The double hull VLCC(Very Large Crude Oil Tanker) have been designed to have each four(4) longitudinal bulkheads and transverse bulkheads in general. Actually, the inside longitudinal bulkheads among four(4) longitudinal bulkheads, which are extended up to the end of the aft cargo hold for continuity of the members, have been designed with knuckled type inboard due to the narrowed hull shape at bottom region, but sometimes the straight type of longitudinal bulkheads were adopted based on the degree of the hull lines shape. However, regardless the type of longitudinal bulkheads, inside and outside longitudinal bulkheads conflict each other in aft cargo hold region This makes the structure more complex thus giving difficulties to structural design and production. Recently, a vessel of straight type was reported to have cracks on bracket end and tripping bracket toe in aft cargo hold region. As a solution to this problem, in designing the first 60m Beam VLCC, DSME developed a new cargo hold structure which is good in production and structural point of view by structural strength and fatigue analysis of fore and aft cargo hold.
The buckling assessment of plate panels described in common structural rules (CSR) is to be determined according to the buckling utilization factor with hull girder stresses calculated on net hull girder sectional properties. As the thickness requirement for the buckling assessment of plate panels is not explicitly given in CSR, a lot of time is spent to find the proper thickness of plate panels until reaching to an allowable buckling utilization factor. In this study, in order to reduce time and cost, the thickness requirement of plate panels satisfying buckling assessment was derived. The structural design system included with the thickness requirement for buckling assessment was developed. The system is called as Oil-tanker Automated Structural Investigation System (OASIS). The design result of longitudinal strength members using OASIS was verified by Nauticus Hull which is the rule scantling software of DNV. Finally, optimum design of a double hull tanker for the minimum weight using OASIS was presented.
The latest date, No. 1 YouII was grounded and sunk into the sea at MAMHYUNGJEDO ( South brother Island) in Sep. 21. 1995, and M.V. Sea Prince of V.L.C.C also made a big oil poullution accident owing to Typhoon "Paei" at front sea of Yeu Choun on Jul. 25. 1995. The large or small scall scale of oil poullution accident frequently was occurred about 300-350 cases per ine(1) year. The countries advanced in marine relations like as, nited Kingdom and Japan, have perfect system The country of expert education, training and oil recovery equipments in oil poullution accidents. The large quantity oil skimming ship's basic condition need general skimming ship which was high speed and large quantity skimming ability , and hve to store the recovered oil into tanks This oil skimming shop are composit the skimmer whuch move up and down according to the wace movements, storage tank which storage the recovered oil in after side, transfer pump which transformed from flooding tank to separating tank and separating tank which separated the oil mixtures, Also there are cylindrical floated which keep the auto positing, gate which keep the auto positing, gate which protect and guide the recovering oil from sea and balance weight for skimmer balance. Also there are cylindrical floated which keep the auto positing, gate which protect and guide the recovering oil from sea and balance weight for skimmer balance. The important arrangement is twin arm which moved by two hinge and move te skimming unit by wave movement. In gate of inside, made long wear in the gate bellow position, there are also connected the flexible hose for oil mixtures drop. The separating tank composited with multi-divided bulkhead for ffective oil and sea water separating by settling and flotation principle. As use the above natural princile and equipment, we can remove the large quantity oil by developed oil skimming ship.ming ship.

Hull forms of ancient ships in Korea and China have been changed according to their voyages and routes. Therefore it is necessary for shipbuilding engineers to reestablish the ancient shipbuilding history, and to presume, restore and revive the lost cultural inheritances. We, however, do not have many historical documents or credible materials that can our ancestors' great shipbuilding techniques : at the same time we do not have paid much attention to the research on such documents and materials. This paper aims not only to study and compare shifting process of ancient ship's hull forms in Korea and China by making use of verifiable materials obtained in the process of excavating and restoring Shinan ancient ship. The results of comparing structural characteristics and hull forms of ancient ships in Korea and China and as follwing : (1) Korean ancient ships have transverse beam instead of frame . Judged from the bottomform, Korean ancient ships are grooved clinker type ships of flat bottom type, in which bottom planking is fixed by wooden bar. (2) Chinese ancient ships have transverse bulkhead structure instead of frame, Judged from the bottom form , Chinese ancient ships are rabetted clinker type ships of V-bottom type with a bar keel. The form , the position, and the size of a sail are closely related with the wind force. It is not only quite difficult to presume forms and sizes of ancient ships' sails precisely, but also impossible to come to an accurate conclusion wihtout much experience. Current 10-year-statistics of the wind force are used to obtain presumed routes of ancient ships in Korea and China. Conclusions obtained from the hull form , sail form and size , and mast height of Shinan ancient ship will provide credible data for sea trade routes and transformation capability, and wil be used for effective materials on the study of the shifting process of ancient ships in Korea and China.

Mineral wool is an insulation material commonly used in passive fire protection (PFP) systems on offshore installations. Insulation materials have only been considered functional materials for thermal analysis in the conventional offshore PFP system design method. Hence, the structural performance of insulation has yet to be considered in the design of PFP systems. However, the structural elements of offshore PFP systems are often designed with excessive dimensions to satisfy structural requirements under external loads such as wind, fire and explosive pressure. To verify the structural contribution of insulation material, it was considered a structural material in this study. A series of material tensile tests was undertaken with two types of mineral wool at room temperature and at elevated temperatures for fire conditions. The mechanical properties were then verified with modified methods, and a database was constructed for application in a series of nonlinear structural and thermal finite-element analyses of an offshore bulkhead-type PFP system. Numerical analyses were performed with a conventional model without insulation and with a new suggested model with insulation. These analyses showed the structural contribution of the insulation in the structural behaviour of the PFP panel. The results suggest the need to consider the structural strength of the insulation material in PFP systems during the structural design step for offshore installations.
