  • In this paper, we present the regression analysis and design optimization for improving the permeability of 3D woven materials based on numerical analysis data. First, the parametric analysis model is generated with variables that define the gap sizes between each directional wire of the woven material. Then, material properties such as bulk modulus, thermal conductivity coefficient, and permeability are calculated using numerical analysis, and these material data are used in the polynomial-based regression analysis. The Pareto optimal solution is obtained between bulk modulus and permeability by using multi-objective optimization and shows their trade-off relation. In addition, gradient-based design optimization is applied to maximize the fluid permeability for 3D woven materials, and the optimal designs are obtained according to the various minimum bulk modulus constraints. Finally, the optimal solutions from regression equations are verified to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method.

  • Railroad is considered a representative echo-friendly mode, but there are many civil complaints due to dusts arising in the process of bulk cargo transportation. The freight station which is handling coal are slowly decreasing because of civil complaints. Generally gondolas and hopper cars kinds of freight cars have a role to carry coal such as anthracite and bituminous coal. The railroad competitiveness in the field of bulk cargo transportation is diminishing because there are cost increase and dust emission in the process of transshipment. In this study, we analysed the logistics process of bulk cargo transportation in the point of railroad and we could draw the problems from the logistics process. The results could be used to study various alternatives to improve the process of coal transportation.

  • This paper is concerned with numerical analyses for bulk forming of a single crystal milli-product, whose typical size ranges from a few hundreds ${\mu}m$ to a few mm. The numerical formulation invoked in this paper combines the crystal plasticity theory considering texture development and the ductile damage mechanics for growth of micro voids, since orientation development and growth of micro voids become the primary factors for bulk forming of milli-size products. As applications, milli-extrusion of a single crystal round bar and milli-rolling of a single crystal plate are simulated and the results are discussed in detail.

  • Molecular motion at the surface of monodisperse polystyrene (PS) films with various chain end groups was studied by scanning probe microscopy. Surface glass transition temperature ($T_{g^s}$) of the PS films was much lower than the corresponding bulk value. And, the magnitude of $T_{g^s}$ was strongly dependent on chain end chemistry. This result can be explained in terms of the chain end concentration at the surface. Time-temperature superposition principle was applied to rheological analysis at the surface. The apparent activation energy of the surface ${\alpha}_{a}$-relaxation process was approximately a half of that for the bulk sample. This result clearly indicates that the cooperativity for the surface segmental motion was reduced in comparison with that in the bulk region.

  • The heater-triggered switching system for charging of a high temperature superconductor(HTS) is prepared by simulation and investigated its characteristic by experiment. heater-triggered switching system consists of two nickel-chrome alloy heater, an electromagnet and YBCO bulk HTS. There are three important parameters to generate the pumping-current in this system. The timing sequential control of two heters and electromagnet is an important factor to generate pumping-current in the YBCO bulk HTS. Thermal analysis of the switching part in YBCO bulk HTS according to the heater input current was carried out. Electromagnet of 0.6[T] and DC heater input current of 2.3[A] were optimally derived. In this experiment, the maximum pumping current is reaches about 12[A].

  • For the preparation of short ceramic fibers of which average length might be in accordance with the opening size of sieve, e.g., 150${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ or 300${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, bulk fibers were grounded on sieve screen by applying both compressing and shearing force, and passed through the sieve screen. The grounded fibers were subjected to gravitational settling processes. The classified fibers were observed by scanning electron microscopy and the length of each fiber was measured to correlate the average length with the opening size of the sieve used for grinding bulk fibers. Theoretical analysis show that a free settling technique is ineffective for the classification of fibers by length compared with that of particles. The average lengths of classified fibers estimated by scanning electron microscopy were in good agreement with those obtained by relative packing volume of the fibers. Accordingly, it is confirmed that average fiber lengths can be determined from bulk volume data without photographing, counting and averaging results for hundreds of fibers.

  • Surface defects and bulk defects on SOI wafers are studied. Two new metrologies have been proposed to characterize surface and bulk defects in epitaxial layer transfer (ELTRAN) wafers. They included the following: i) laser scattering particle counter and coordinated atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Cu-decoration for defect isolation and ii) cross-sectional transmission electron microscope (TEM) foil preparation using focused ion beam (FIB) and TEM investigation for defect morphology observation. The size of defect is 7.29 urn by AFM analysis, the density of defect is 0.36 /cm$^2$ at as-direct surface oxide defect (DSOD), 2.52 /cm$^2$ at ox-DSOD. A hole was formed locally without either the silicon or the buried oxide layer (Square Defect) in surface defect. Most of surface defects in ELTRAN wafers originate from particle on the porous silicon.

  • In this work, we have designed Gilbert cell downconversion mixer using 0.25um Anam CMOS process, we also have analyzed Conversion gain and IIP3 using Taylor series in our own unique way. Especially, bulk terminal is used as LO( Local Oscillator) input for reduction of power consumption and supply voltage. Supply voltage used in this design is lower than 1.8V and core current is less than 500uA. The simulation experiments showed that the conversion gain, IIP3, and power consumption were -1dB, 4.46dBm, and 0.8mW, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the bulk/sheet forming characteristics of bulk amorphous alloys in the supercooled liquid state. The temperature dependences of Newtonian viscosities of amorphous materials are obtained based on the previous experimental works. Finite element analyses for compression forming and sheet deep drawing of amorphous materials are performed. Effects of friction coefficients and temperature are examined and formability of amorphous material is explained in detail.

  • A study on the sloshing flow of highly-viscous fluid in a rectangular box was made by both of theoretical approach and experimental visualization method. Assuming a smallness of external forcing to oscillate the container, it was investigated a linear sloshing flow of highly-viscous fluid utilizing asymptotic analysis by Taylor-series expansion as a small parameter Re (≪1) in which Re denotes Reynolds number. The theory predict that, during all cycles of sloshing, a linear shape of free surface will prevail in a bulk zone and it has confirmed in experiment. The relevance of perfect slip boundary condition, adopted in theoretical approach, to the bulk zone flow at the container wall was tested in experiment. It is found that quasi-steady coated thin film, which makes a lubricant layer between bulk flow and solid wall, is generated on the wall and the film makes a role to perfect slip boundary condition.
