  • A Special Building Zone, which could relieve or ignore part of the Building Act and the regulations in relevant laws, was practically established for the creation of new urban landscape, the improvement of construction technology, and the improvement of construction-related policy. However, due to the lack of understanding the Special Building Zone as well as the insufficiency of detailed standards in policies, the system currently cannot be operated in universal matters. In such circumstance, this study, which is based on the current data on the Special Building Zone defined in exiting law, attempts to analyze the multi-unit housing that has been planned by the system of Special Building Zone. Also, this study aims to derive the Special Building Zone's possibilities and implications that contribute to the improvement of landscape, so as to suggest solutions for effective improvement of the system. With the results above, solutions for the improvement of the system can be derived and summarized as the following. On the one hand, from 'planning perspective', it is necessary to improve the system in a comprehensive way with consideration of urban and local contexts. On the other hand, from 'procedure perspective', some foundation shall be prepared for a system that can allows comprehensive tasks, including the settlement of the zone, the alleviation/elimination of regulations, the approval of building's construction, the process of construction, and the monitoring.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation of fermented microbial complex(Eco-Farm$^{(R)}$) on performance of finishing pigs and indoor air quality in finishing building. A total 135 crossbred [(Landrace ${\times}$ Yorkshire) ${\times}$ Duroc] pigs were randomly arranged into nine groups and assigned to three treatments. Pigs were fed a basal diet supplemented with 0, 0.5 and 1% level of fermented microbial complex(Eco-Farm$^{(R)}$) until the market weight for 40 days of the experimental period. Average daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio were significantly improved (p<0.05) with dietary supplementation of 0.5% fermented microbial complex (Eco-Farm$^{(R)}$): however, average daily gain was not affected by dietary supplementation of fermented microbial complex(Eco-Farm$^{(R)}$). Indoor ammonia and hydrogen sulfide concentrations in the finishing building were significantly(p<0.05) decreased by dietary supplementation of fermented microbial complex(Eco-Farm$^{(R)}$) compared with those of control, however, indoor carbon dioxide concentration was not affected by dietary supplementation of fermented microbial complex(Eco-Farm$^{(R)}$). In conclusion, the results obtained from this experiment suggest that the dietary supplementation of fermented microbial complex(Eco-Farm$^{(R)}$) for finishing pigs improved performance and indoor air quality in the finishing building.hing building.

  • Renovation of existing sports facilities or construction of temporary ones for international complex games requires a wide variety of hundreds of sub construction projects to be awarded at the same time but there are few precedents required regarding the study of tendering process required in such cases. As award of construction contracts to build sports facilities for various international complex games is a critical determinant of fate of international complex games in the initial phase, it is very critical that adequate construction tendering process bedetermined. This research is aimed to study tendering cases for renovation or construction of critical international sports facilities to enhance efficiency of facility construction and define most reasonable tendering approach to satisfy schedule constraints often associated with international complex games and contribute to improvement of international competitiveness of their host cities and propose a direction for further development. This study also provides inputs to subsequent sports events of comparable scale to minimize trial and error.

  • The successful project management is based on definition of project goals in construction industry. The WBS(Work Breakdown Structure) is one of the major factors which defines works related to project goals. The necessity of the WBS for owners in multi complex projects which would help them to understand the whole project is rising because the multi-complex project in the construction industry has increasing recently. Therefore, this study suggests directions to establish the WBS for owners through investigating a concept of the multi-complex project first and analyzing types of project, domestic and foreign WBS, and case studies.

  • Strong wind flow around a building complex was numerically studied by LES. The original motivation of this work stemmed from the efforts to develop a risk assessment technique for windstorm hazards. Lagrangian-averaged scale-invariant dynamic subgrid-scale model was used for turbulence modeling, and a log-law-based wall model was employed on all the solid surfaces including the ground and the surface of buildings to replace the no-slip condition. The shape of buildings was implemented on the Cartesian grid system by an immersed boundary method. Key flow quantities for the risk assessment such as mean and RMS values of pressure on the surface of the selected buildings are presented. In addition, characteristics of the velocity field at some selected locations vital to safety of human beings is also reported.

  • There are many place of business in complex building, and recently claims of noise have increased in those buildings. It is most desirable reducing the noise problems to establish the noise criteria considering the noise source and the receiving place of business, which are derived from the dose-response of noise and results of the actual condition. The degree of response to the transmission noise could be changed with background noise level in the receiving stores. In this research, the subjective evaluation for three different background level in receiving place of business or rooms were investigated from subjective tests. The eight business sound source including aerobic music were used for the test.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the stack effect reduction alternatives in tall complex buildings in cold climates. The main problems in tall buildings occur in elevators. Such problems as elevator doors that do not close and exhaust airflows result in excessive pressure differences across elevator doors due to stack effect. Under the expected conditions causing these pressure differences, Field measurements are performed in three tall buildings. Each result of the measurements is analyzed in architectural design aspects. With these analysis, building design guidelines are proposed and analyzed by field measurements and computer simulations.

  • This paper presents a case study using Building Information Modeling (BIM) for planning, simulating, and implementing complex site logistics in a headquarter office building construction project in Silver Spring, MD. As part of the project a prefabricated 92ft structural tube steel pedestrian connector bridge was installed between two adjacent buildings in the city of Silver Spring, MD. There were multiple significant challenges to deliver, offload, prepare, and install the connector bridge safely, on time, and with the minimum disturbances to the neighbors. BIM was of the foremost importance to visualize, simulate, analyze, improve, and communicate the site logistics plan from delivery to installation of the connector bridge. As a result of the effort, GC of the project was able to prepare a highly detailed plan, communicate it effectively to all stakeholders, and flawlessly execute the work as planned. This case study would provide a useful reference for contractors who are seeking a better planning method that enables generation of more accurate, implementable, optimized plans for complex site logistics.
