  • Effects of some diacid, diamine and dinitro aromatic compounds on the structure and activity of adenosine deaminase (ADA) were investigated by UV-Vis spectrophotometry in 50 mM phosphate buffer at pH = 7.5 and 27 ${^{\circ}C}$ and molecular docking studies. The results showed that all tested ligands are showing inhibition; five ligands are uncompetitive and other two ligands are mixed of competitive and noncompetetive inhibitors with majority of competitive behavior. For the later case analysis was done based on competitive inhibition. Diacids have larger size and higher inhibition constant ($K_I$) relative to others. A logical correlation between calculated free energy of binding and experimental values was obtained for un-competitive. Experimental and calculated data showed that competitive inhibitors are distributed near the active site of enzyme and form several cluster of ranks, whereas uncompetitive inhibitors bind to the enzyme-substrate complex and distributed far from the active site. Results of structure-activity relationship showed that, larger, more hydrophobe, less spherical and more aromatic ligands have higher inhibition constants.

  • In this paper, we relatively differentiate maximum delay for each Assured Service subclass in Differentiated Services by allocating bandwidth to each subclass differently. To maximize the throughput for the In-profile traffic and the link utilization, we propose a Cofiguration method of RIO and the admission control criterion based on the buffer size determined by the network topology and the ratio of bandwidth allocated to each subclass. Simulation results show that the proposed method can calculate the capacity to guarantee the QoS for the Assured Service and maximize the throughput for the In-profile traffic and the link utilization by applying the RIO parameter values set through the proposed configuration method.

  • As window sized increases, the throughput input-buffered packet switch with a window scheme improves on random traffic condition. However, the improvement diminishes quickly under bursty traffic. In this paper, we propose Burst Head Addressable FIFO mechanism and memory structure having search capability in unit of burst header to compensate the sensitiveness of the windowed scheme to bursty traffic. The performance of a input-buffered switch using the proposed Burst Header Addressable FIFO input buffer was analyzed using computer simulations. The maximum throughput of the conventional FIFO scheme approaches an asymptotic value 0.5 as mean burst length increases. The maximum throughput of the proposed scheme is greater than that of the conventional scheme for any mean burst length and window size.

  • A huge storage and broad bandwidth are required to provide subscribers with VoD services. Hence, there is a huge amount of cost in establishing networks for VoD services. To determine how to reduce the cost, a number of studies involving such as distributed server systems, multicasting, program caching, stream sharing, are currently in progress. In this paper, a request criterion for multicast service and the ratio of required bandwidth for unicast to multicast are generated. The effect of multicast service on network bandwidth, server bandwidth, and buffer size was analyzed and validated through computer simulation. The results of this study could be applied to efficient designing networks for VoD services.

  • Znic sulfide (ZnS) thin films were deposited on glass substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering. The substrate temperature varied from room temperature (RT) to $500^{\circ}C$. The structural and optical properties of ZnS films were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDAX) and UV-visible transmission spectra. The XRD analyses reveal that ZnS films have cubic structures with (111) preferential orientation, whereas the diffraction patterns sharpen with the increase in substrate temperatures. The FESEM images indicate that ZnS films deposited at $400^{\circ}C$ have nano-sized grains with a grain size of ~ 67 nm. Then films exhibit relatively high transmittance of 80% in the visible region, with an energy band gap of 3.71 eV. One obvious result is that the energy band gap of the film increases with increasing the substrate temperatures.

  • With the increase of Internet protocol (IP) packets the performance of routers became an important issue in internetworking. In this paper we examined the matching algorithm in gigabit router which has input queue with virtual output queueing. Port partitioning concept is employed to reduce the computational burden of the scheduler within a switch. The input and output ports are divided into two groups such that the matching algorithm is implemented within each input-output pair group in parallel. The matching is performed by exchanging input and output port groups at every time slot to handle all incoming traffics. Two algorithms, maximal weight matching by port partitioning (MPP) and modified maximal weight matching by port partitioning (MMPP) are presented. MMPP has the lowest delay for every packet arrival rate. The buffer size on a port is approximately 20-60 packets depending on the packet arrival rates. The throughput is illustrated to be linear to the packet arrival rate, which can be achieved under highly efficient matching algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a general analysis tool that derives guaranteed delay bounds for real-time sessions when those sessions pass through heterogeneous schedulers in general packet networks. This tool characterizes each different scheduler by a homogeneous service curve server. We show that service curve servers can characterize a strictly larger class of schedulers than LR servers. That is, we can characterize not only all LR servers but also RC-EDF and SC scheduler by service curve servers. Even with such advantage over LR servers, service curve servers provide accurate analysis results. We prove mathematically that if we analyze a network that can be analyzed by both LR servers and service curve servers,,both cases yield the same delay bound.

  • The effect of stigmasterol (SS), a phytosterol, in the liposome bilayer on the stability of encapsulated ascorbic acid (ASA) was evaluated. Liposomes, consisting of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and SS, and ASA were encapsulated by the dehydration/rehydration method. The average particle size of the liposome increased with increasing SS content. SS significantly increased the stability of encapsulated ASA. For example, ASA remaining in the liposomes of 100:0, 90:10, and 70:30 (PC:SS, w/w) ratios was 34.12%, 49.88%, and 58.58%, respectively, after storage for 8 days at 4℃, while only 7.66% ASA remained in the buffer under the same conditions. These results indicated that SS in liposomes increased the stability of encapsulated ASA.

  • This paper covers the performance evaluation of two flash memory-based file storages, NAND and NOR, which are the major flash types. To evaluate their performances, we set up separate file storages for the two types of flash memories on a PocketPC-based experimental platform. Using the platform, we measured and compared the I/O throughputs in terms of buffer size, amount of used space, and kernel-level write caching. According to the results from our experiments, the overall performance of the NAND-based storage is higher than that of NOR by up to 4.8 and 5.7 times in write and read throughputs, respectively. The experimental results show the relative strengths and weaknesses of the two schemes and provide insights which we believe assist in the design of flash memory-based file storages.

  • This study investigated the transformation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in a free-water surface flow constructed wetland. Pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) coupled with preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (prep-HPLC) was used to analyze the compositions of biopolymers (polysaccharides, amino sugars, proteins, polyhydroxy aromatics, lipids and lignin) in DOM according to the molecular size at three sampling points of the water flow: inflow, midflow, and outflow. The prep-HPLC results verified the decomposition of DOM through the decrease in the number of peaks from three to one in the chromatograms of the sampling points. The Py-GC/MS results for the degradable peaks indicated that biopolymers relating to polysaccharides and proteins gradually biodegraded with the water flow. On the other hand, the recalcitrant organic fraction (the remaining peak) in the outflow showed a relatively high concentration of aromatic compounds. Therefore, the ecological processes in the constructed wetland caused DOM to become more aromatic and homogeneous. This indicated that the constructed wetland can be an effective buffer area for releasing biochemically stable DOM, which has less influence on biological water quality indicators, e.g., biochemical oxygen demand, into an aquatic ecosystem.
